Q. What is a Personal Wedding Webpage on The Knot?
A. A Personal Wedding Webpage on The Knot is like your own ever-changing wedding newsletter! It is a way to introduce your fiance to your friends and family and share details about your wedding with everyone all at once; lets your guests know how the two of you met and how you decided to get married; tells your guests the date and location of your wedding early so they can plan ahead; introduce your wedding party and fill your guests in on what you'll be serving for lunch or dinner.

Along with your page, you and your guests will have access to a private guestbook which you can use to dispense more information (your guests can even use it as an *interactive* guestbook!)

Q. How do I find a couple's Personal Wedding Webpage?
A. Go to
http://www.theknot.com/pwp.html. Under "Find a Wedding Web Page," type in the bride or groom's last name (or both) and click "go." When the results appear, click on the name of the couple whose page you wish to see. You can also do a random search by wedding date and location.

Q. Do I have to be Knot member to make my own Personal Wedding Webpage?
A. Yes. Knot membership is completely free and in addition to your own wedding page, you are also entitled to use our budgeter, checklist, bridal gown search, and The Knot's very own online registry, free of charge.

Q. What does it cost to have a Personal Wedding Webpage on The Knot?
A. Nothing. All Knot members are entitled to their own Personal Wedding Webpage, free of charge!

Q. Do I have to know HTML to make my Personal Wedding Webpage?
A. No. The procedure for setting up your page is very simple. All you have to do is fill-in-the-blanks with all of your information and your page will automatically appear. Write as much or as little as you want -- don't worry, you can update it whenever you want. Anything you leave blank will be left off your page entirely. You will also be given a selection of styles and designs to choose from to liven up your page. And if you choose, you can add a picture of yourselves to your page.

Q. What kind of information can I put on my webpage?
A. Everything you want your guests to know about the two of you and your wedding! For example: everything from your backgrounds, how you met, and how you got engaged to the names of the bridal party, the time and location of your wedding, and what you're serving for dinner! You can also include directions, suggestions for food and lodging in the area, and the suggested attire for your big day.

Q. How do I update my webpage once it's live?
A. Nothing you write is final -- you can update your page at any time. If you have already created your Personal Wedding Webpage, you will be given the option to edit it. Go to www.theknot.com/pwp.html and click on "Edit Your Web Page" in the left-hand side navigation bar. You can then add, erase, or replace any of your information.

Q. How do I keep my personal information private?
A. Only the first screen of your wedding page will be visible to the general public. You can choose to have the other pages in your website password-protected. This password will enable your guests to view the more private wedding details (i.e. location and time) and to post messages in your online guestbook.

Q. How will my guests know about my Personal Wedding Webpage?
A. We'll tell them. After you fill out all of your information, click on "Tell Your Guests" in the left-hand side navigation bar. You will then be asked to provide the email addresses of your guests, as well as a message from you to them. We will automatically send an email to all of the addresses provided with your message, the address of your personal webpage, and the guest password if you have selected one.

Q. How do I select a password for my guests?
A. You will be given the option to select one while you are building your page. Your password should be 8 characters or less and preferably something that won't be too difficult for your guests to remember.

Q. How does the Guestbook work?
A. Your Guestbook works just like a mini-version of any online bulletin board. Your guests can use it to post a message to you, and you can use it to update your guests on information not included on your webpage. Any messages posted will remain in your Guestbook. You and your guests can post messages, or reply to any message already there as often as you wish.

Q. How do I include a picture on my webpage?
A. Click on the UPLOAD YOUR IMAGE link (it's on the last page of creating your webpage), follow the instructions, and in no time, your smiling faces will appear right on your Knot Wedding Webpage. When the Upload process is done, click "Continue". You can always replace the image with a new one.

If you do not have a digital photo, you can mail your picture to us. Please carefully label the back of your picture in ink with your full names, email address, wedding date, and member number. Please allow 4 weeks for processing. Pictures are non-returnable.

Q. Why is the photo on my Wedding Webpage blurry?
A. This is most likely to happen with our members who use America Online to access The Knot. AOL "compresses" images before they're sent to your Web browser. This is to speed up downloading of pages. However, this will also cause graphics to appear muddy or distorted. We highly recommend that you turn this feature OFF to enjoy a fuller Web experience. To do this on AOL 4.0,

  • Click the "My AOL" icon on the toolbar at the top.
  • Click "Preferences", then the "WWW" icon, then the "Web Graphics" tab.
  • UNcheck "Use compressed graphics" and click "OK".
