The staff at Alger House were like my family by the time the wedding rolled around. Monika and her staff treated me like I was their only client. Anything I requested was satisfied and communication was open 24/7 for anything that popped into my head.
Our wedding was a destination,so only a few guests were actuallyfrom NYC. Since we had so many peole from out of town, we wanted everyone to have an amazing time and also experience a smaller scale wedding that had "our" stamp on it. A month later, our friends and family are still talking about how much fun it was, especially the food and music. I still hear comments about how the food wasn't "wedding food". The appetizers and filet were the biggest hits. The details of linens, cutlery and glassware were perfect for the vintage feel of the space. I didn't have to rent anything to enhance my vision. The price-point Alger House offers is amazing value for the quality and level of service. I was allowed to request for certain artwork and decor to be removed or repurposed to get the look I wanted.
For a small, intimate wedding of 50 people, this was the perfect space. We wanted to feel like we were at a home, not a hall, and that's exactly what Alger House offered. The Garden room was the perfect place to get dressed and hang out with the girls beforehand.
Alger House may be a small,"vintage" carriage house but the minute you walk in, there's a feel of homeiness that is inviting. Monika's advice and expertise with many of the details I fretted over, calmed me down so much. As soon as I met her, I knew I could trust her experience and taste. She was never pushy and always sincere in wanting us to have amazing memories.
On the way back home, the next day, my husband and I were trying to figure out what we could do to warrant another party there. Everyone suggested an anniversary party :).
The staff was great to work with and the venue is unique and beautiful. We were thrilled with our choice to have our wedding here.
The Alger House has excellent food and service at affordable prices. Especially for the West Village. Our guests loved the decor and we loved the staff's flexibility and willingness to accommodate our special requests. Thanks Jeno!
I just got married this past Saturday, 5/31/2014 at the Alger House and it was wonderful. The venue was lovely, a great alternative to the larger impersonal halls. It was warm, inviting, and eclectic. The staff was kind and very accommodating. I worked with both Jeno and Monika and they so helpful and were able to facilitate all requests. We had around 47 people and the space was such a comfortable fit with both a DJ and a photo booth. The transition from ceremony to cocktail/reception was seamless, as they use the same great long room. We were able to get there early for bridal prep photos. The space is a photographer's dream! I wanted so many pictures of all the artwork and details. The treelined block was also great for portraits. People raved about the food, we did buffet style which gave us so much variety (vegetarian, pork-free diets). I would recommend this romantic space for any small City wedding!
Having just returned from our honeymoon we are still hearing raves about our wedding from atmosphere, to service to food et al! Our #1 goal was to have an intimate wedding that did not feel run of the mill in any way- Monika was absolutely amazing to work with from the first time we met her! She was so incredibly helpful, responsive, full of suggestions, and never ever said no without at least trying and entertaining my "creative" ideas --and believe me I asked and suggested many things- apparently I was making suggestions that had never been done even though she presented many many options from her many years of experience.
We really cant say enough -- she was such a supportive, positive and calming influence and I felt confident throughout every step of the process that we chose the right place! We keep saying it was even better than we anticipated and everyone had an amazing time and we had quite a diverse and experienced crowd to please. We are beyond thrilled that we had the perfect wedding for us and we were only able to create that with our personal touches from wines, floor set up, and even food brought in from my husbands hometown. This was all possible through Monikas organized professional and extremely helpful way she approached every aspect of our wedding. Even day of she was there every step of the way and kept us on track and checked in to see how we were and if we wanted to make any adjustments throughout our evening .We would highly recommend working with Monika and hope to have a reason to work with Monika again!
We had our wedding in May 2013, and from the very first point of contact the team at Alger House were amazing. Jeno and Monika, our Maitre'd, made planning our wedding easy and hassle free. They bent over backwards to help us, always replying to emails promptly. The venue itself was beautiful and unlike most wedding venues, it had a ton of character. The upstairs garden room was perfect to relax during the reception and the Great Room, which is filled with gorgeous art and sculpture, was the perfect size for our wedding.
The food was amazing, and our guests are still raving about it. It was cooked to perfection and the venue staff were attentive to our guest's needs. It was great to try the food at a tasting before the wedding. Monika even sourced a certain beer from overseas that we really wanted to have at the wedding.
On the day itself, it was lovely to be able to relax, as Monika took care of everything. She coordinated the timing of the day and always made sure things were running to schedule.
There are far too many great things to say about the venue itself and all the staff to put in one review. This is the perfect New York wedding venue. You will not be disappointed if you choose Alger House. We cannot thank them enough for making our wedding day absolutely perfect.
We chose Alger House due to the venue's charm, and the reasonable pricing. Both came through as I had hoped. Our wedding had 65 guests, which was just right. The team at Alger did a great job setting up and serving, and the food was delicious. Monika was helpful in planning the timeline and details of the event. I would absolutely make the same choices all over again. Our total cost was just over $11K, and it was definitely worth it.
I did have some confusion about the way to get the minimum range of cost--make sure you fully understand how many guests you have to have, and what food choices you would have to make to get to the lowest possible price, if that's your goal. All in however, the rate and quality were phenomenal.
We met Monika, the wedding coordinator at Alger House, at their other venue the "Manhattan Penthouse" in Union Sq.
We liked it but we were looking for something more "home feeling" and she proposed to check out the Alger House.
It was love at first sight. It's an old carriage house on two floors. The main floor is where we got married, had dinner, danced and so on, the upstairs is a chill out area where we had out stuff and had drinks before the ceremony. Monika is amazing, she helped us planning everything and she worked with our budget but most important she kept us on track the day of. Everything went nice and smooth and seriously we would not change one single thing. The food was also very good, we are extremely spoiled people when it comes to food and green mansions catering lived up to our expectations. I'd recommend this venue to a wedding size of max 80 (even if they hosted party up to 100pp just fine) but that's my personal opinion. For larger parties ask for the Manhattan Penthouse, very cool place! Ask for Monika, she will make it happen!
The Alger House was perfect for our wedding reception. Our guests loved the character of the space, and the food/wine was great. Jeno was great to work with. I wish we had more structure with the planning, but that was probably because I was frantic and didn't come to the meeting fully prepared. During the event, Jeno was amazing, and led us through the events. This was an amazing venue, and would highly recommend it to anyone.
I had my wedding at the Alger House on November 20, 2010. The venue is really lovely. The decor was perfect for our intimate wedding of 70 people. The staff were alert, and the maitre'd was able to accommodate my accelarated timeline for ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner. Definitely worth a visit, you will be pleased with what you find there!
We were married at the Alger House in October and it was perfect. They were able to work within our tight budget and the result looked anything but "budget". Monika was great and thanks to her the whole day ran so smoothly, I can't thank you enough and I can't recommend this place enough. Whether you are on a budget or not, make sure to check out Alger House!
i COULD NOT HAVE HAD A BETTER EXPERIENCE FROM START TO FINISH. EXCELLENT STAFF, FOOD, SERVICE.EASY TO WORK WITH AND ACCOMMODATING. A SPECIAL THANKS TO MONICA AND NEIL.
PERFECT VENUE FOR AN INTIMATTE WEDDING
Alger House is absolutely amazing! It's a converted carriage house in the West Village that's filled with paintings and sculptures and beautiful things. Pretty much the opposite of your standard generic ballroom or stark loft. The staff was wonderful especially our coordinator. Everyone raved about the food. It was exactly the wedding we wanted and Alger House was the best part!

Alger House in The Village
Alger House, a large carriage house off Sixth Avenue, is one of Manhattan's great treasures for smaller receptions, ceremonies, and dinners for 40 to 106 guests with dancing. The long Great Room is also very wide and is filled with beautiful art, statues, and architectural details.
