What a surprise.
I expected to hate the "wedding dress" part of getting married... as someone who's never been terribly into clothes, who's always hated shopping, who's always been relatively uncomfortable in front of mirrors or with "girly" activities... needless to say, I was dreading the entire process.
Then, I showed up for my apt at Amy Kuschel - and Teresa helped me. I can't say enough wonderful things about Teresa and the team. I felt comfortable and happy from the beginning - which is ASTONISHING. Teresa helped me try on a whole variety of dresses, either in sizes that fit me (or were too big!), or for the dresses that they didn't have in the right size, she had all sorts of tricks for helping me get the idea. The dress I ended up ordering was completely custom - the top from one dress, with the skirt silhouette from another dress - and I absolutely adore it.
Thanks to a medical situation, I was quite significantly overweight at the beginning of this process - and managed to lose 46 pounds over the course of the 8 months leading up to the wedding... AFTER I ordered my dress. The team was absolutely incredible about measuring, re-measuring, re-measuring me... and then altering and re-altering my dress over and over again, up until three days before the wedding itself. It ended up fitting me PERFECTLY - much to my complete surprise.
The dress turned out to be everything I ever could have wanted... and I love all the pictures. I was comfortable and happy, and I actually honestly believed that I looked beautiful - for the first time in my adult life. Seriously... what a gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
From the moment you walk into Amy Kuschel's bridal salon, you feel special. The ladies who work there are 100% dedicated to making you feel as beautiful as you possibly can, and they know wedding dresses inside and out. Once you choose your dress, they make it from scratch by hand specifically for you! Everyone who worked there knew my name and my dress and all about my wedding every time I came in, and they really thought of everything for me (including a lovely little "gown emergency kit" when I picked up the dress!). I encourage all brides to try out Amy Kuschel--her gowns are amazing and the experience of having your very own gown made for you is once in a lifetime!
I had such a fantastic time at Amy Kuschel and my dress was perfect at the end. I went to a bunch of other places that had dresses I liked, but the quality of the fabric and the fit made the dresses at Amy Kuschel the very best.
Maggie helped me pick out my dress, and I absolutely loved her. She listened to what I had to say and helped me quickly narrow down to three different dresses. There was one I really liked, but the sample size was far too small for me to get a realistic idea of what it would look like in my measurements. Maggie and Theresa did some kind of mock up to show me what it would look like in my height and size. It worked, and that was the dress I ended up going with at my second appointment. They do offer a small discount if you purchase in your first two appointments.
I had three fittings, and the woman that sewed my dress also pinned it in on me. I found that incredibly cool. I was able to see the dress really come together. I did have comments and feedback at the fittings that they really listened to. I'm tall with a shorter torso, and it did take all fittings to get the bodice short enough to fit me well. My dress is slightly longer than normal- I went with a tea length silhouette, and as I said above, I'm tall. This wasn't an issue at all.
If I had to do it again, I would skip the other places and go straight here. It was exactly what finding a wedding dress should be.
I had the best experience at Amy Kuschel. The service is great and the dresses are absolutely beautiful!
The wedding dress buying process can be terrible and stressful. Luckily, Amy Kuschel makes it easy!
If you want a classic, simple type wedding dress, this is the place to go. I don't think there's anything with beads, sequins, sparkles, etc in the shop. Everything is high quality silks, lace, etc. It's the kind of dress you won't look back on in 20 years and say "What was I thinking??"
Everyone at the shop was always so great in helping me out. Alexis was my sales person - and she really helped me understand the dresses and helped my find the one that was best for me (it wasn't one of the ones I had my eye on, but it was perfect). Then, the fitting process is great with the seamstress team and took way less time than I had anticipated.
Thought, I did have a last minute freakout that the dress was actually a little too tight under my arms, so I went back 10 days before the wedding, we changed undergarments, and decided to actually make one more round of alterations to the dress. Teresa (the sales floor manager) was AMAZING through that process in helping to calm my fears about the dress and got the changes done with just days before the wedding.
Overall - I couldn't have asked for a better experience in buying my wedding gown. Considering the service and experience, the cost of the dresses are SO reasonable compared to other places.
The only negative about anything was that during my wedding, the bustle on my dress didn't seem to hold while dancing. (Maybe I was just dancing too much!) The buttons ended up popping off, and we had to safety pin the dress up a couple different times. Unfortunately, that meant that the lining of my dress is now pretty damaged. But - I was only planning on wearing it once, so I'm not too bummed about it.
Thanks again to the Amy Kuschel team!
Every bride should have an Amy Kuschel experience. They make you feel soo special and very important, their dresses are absolutely beautiful!!
I didn't end up buying my dress here, but it was wonderful to visit their shop. Excellent service, beautiful dresses, and they are made locally. They are even willing to help you make adjustments to the dresses--small custom touches so you can make the dress your dream dress. As far as prices go, it is probably in the middle--not your $6000+ price tags, but definitely more than $1000, so it is no bargain but you get great value.
Not only did I find the dress of my dreams at Amy Kuschel, the experience here is like no other. They create the dress FOR you at their boutique which is such an amazing and unique experience. Each time I got to go up there it was so much fun and everyone was always so sweet I will really miss going up there. Now on to my dress- I have never received so many compliments in my life. My dress was so different and unique no one had seen anything like it and people just told me I looked like I was out of a magazine, even my photographer who has been in the industry for 30 years said he had never seen anything like it. In other words, go to Amy Kuschel they will make your dreams come true!
As soon as the elevator doors opened into the sunny 5th floor I knew I was going to buy my dress there. I had tried on about 30 dresses prior to finding a picture of the Viva dress online. I went in specifically to try on that dress, and it was just what I was looking for! Romantic, elegant, modern and classic all at the same time! I had it altered to a sweetheart neckline. I worked with Katrina throughout the entire process, and she is absolutely wonderful! Very sweet, attentive, helpful and has an amazing attention to detail. She listened to what I wanted, and made sure that my dress was PERFECT for me-and it was! At Amy Kuschel they custom make their dresses, so I didn't have to worry about buying a size to fit my petite frame. The dress was constructed FOR ME. The proportions were perfect. I could not be happier with my dress and my experience!!
The entire experience at AK was just amazing, from my first appointment trying on dresses to picking it up the week before my wedding. Just walking into the studio makes you feel like you're trying on gowns in a movie. Hope was fabulous to work with and they are all so attentive and helpful. I ended up buying some jewelry as well as my veil from AK and the entire experience was simply perfect.
I chose Amy Kuschel because I wanted the experience of a couture dress, and they had a few options that fit my budget. Amy Kuschel was the first store I went to and the experience was lovely. I ultimately ended up choosing a dress from there after trying on at least 50 dresses from 6 or 7 stores.
The reason I don't give 5 stars is because on my first fitting with the 'real' dress I was paired up with a junior dress designer whose work had to be corrected on my next visit. My advice is that even if you're assigned a junior designer, make sure her work is checked by the older Chinese women while you're wearing the gown. My junior person tried to get their attention and when they didn't hear her, she forged ahead. On my next visit the older, more experienced women had to fix her work.
My other piece of advice is to know that the jewelry and hair pieces they carry are not heavily stocked. If you see something you like on the floor, grab it because it may be the only one. Or at least ask. I wasn't told this (by that same junior dress designer) and when I returned to buy the hair pins I liked, they were gone. I was lucky that they were having a trunk show the weekend before I was to leave for our wedding and there happened to be one set of hair pins that I liked, which I purchased. But that was a bit of a close call.
The dress fit perfectly. It was strapless, I'm very small on top, and not once on my wedding day did I feel the need to adjust or push up the dress.
The bustle didn't stay up all night. I have a photo of a friend adjusting it part-way through the reception, and it came down again later on. I was holding it up for the final portion of the night. Not sure if that's normal or not for bustles.
I give 4 stars for value only because I feel wedding dresses are obscenely priced based on the value of the materials, but these materials are locally sourced so I have to give AK props for that.
I absolutely loved this store and really like a lot of the gowns. The service is so personal and there are so many options for customizing since they are the shop and the designer. The person who helped me was so fantastic and brought me so many different styles. It was an absolutely wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it to someone who is interested in classic designs.
They made the dress in less than two months notice. My husband absolutely adores the dress!!
Purchasing a dress from Amy Kuschel Bride was the smartest thing I'd done in finding the look for my wedding! Not only is the browsing experience pleasant (a quiet loft near Union Square, beautiful atmosphere, calm vibe), but so is trying on all of the unique options the designer has to offer. Rather than having 5,000 dresses in one size (usually a 0 or 2), Amy Kuschel has several sizes in stock for each of her 40+ designs. I found it made a huge impact to be able to actually try on the dress before purchase.
However, that was just the beginning. Because they make the dress upon order, I was able to modify it (lengthen the train, add buttons), and better yet, visit and try on the dress while it was in progress for various fittings. It made the whole experience so much more special, and it made the dress feel much more personal.
For a dress that I got to wear for only some hours on one day, I appreciate even more now the time I got to spend with the dress beforehand. It just made everything feel much more special!
I spent and entire day shopping in the city with 8 family members. Not the ideal situation for most bridal stores to face. I found many amazing dresses. But, nothing can compare to my experience at Amy Kuschel Bride. Not only do they hand make their dresses just upstairs from the salon, but their staff is fantastic. I worked with Katrina, who we just adored. She and the other girls were so wonderful. They treated me and my family like their own family. They care so much about creating your dream dress. It felt amazing to have a dress made to my exact measurements. My dress came out perfect. It's also nice that their prices were very reasonable. Alterations are also included in the dress price.
I loved my dress from Amy Kuschel and received so many compliments! They were a little more expensive than I wanted to spend it was amazing to have the dress custom made to fit me exactly. The employees are all very very as well though a few of them were a little to cheesy for me.
I absolutely love my dress! So did everyone at the wedding!! I had a great experience shopping with Amy Kuschel Bride. They were friendly, professional, efficient, and most important - awesome quality with affordable price! I highly recommend them - definitely the place to find your dream dress without breaking your bank.
I am not a typical bride, I have a 2 year old, am 45 years old and never really thought "The BIG Day" was the most important thing in the world. However, that said, I realized how important it was to me to feel pretty and comfortable. I picked Amy Kuschel because most of the dresses looked good on me, I liked the idea of someone making a dress just for me, and it's a local SF company who employs people right here. The dress I chose was stunning and the designer, Rung who helped me was incredibly professional and kind. From the moment you walk in, you don't feel pressured but offered assistance and advice if you want it. True, it is not cheap, but it comes down to how you want to spend your money on a wedding.
I LOVED my dress and the entire experience of getting the dress, from having one individual work with me from start to finish, to getting to meet and work with the actual person making my dress, to having Amy herself help me decide which jewelery to wear with it. LOVED it!
This was my third and final stop in my search for a dress. I spent countless hours browsing gowns online before making appointments so I could articulate what I thought I wanted. The one thing I knew with certainty was that I'm not a poofy princess/cupcake gown type of person. I soon fell in love with Amy's clean, timeless and unique gowns.
Her styles are chic, streamlined and not overworked. I went to other salons where I asked for simple and chic and got polyester & over-beaded, over-embroidered and over-crinolined. I knew before stepping foot in this place that Amy & I were dress soulmates.
Katrina was a great consultant - patient, honest and focused on making the experience great and productive. Keep in mind that your dress will be custom made, and being involved in the demi-couture process involves 3-4 fittings. But it's totally worth it because at the end of it all you'll have a custom gown that fits you better than you could ever imagine.
Hands down the best dress shopping experience I had. And yes, I found "the one" here - Kendra. She was beautifully tailored & fit like a glove. It was perfect.
