My husband and I got married this past March at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center and we were so impressed by Kristin and her team at Capers.
We had researched tons of caterers extensively before choosing Capers. We attended 6 tastings in total from different companies and Capers was definitely a step up from the rest, in terms of both quality of food and value. It was also the company that we felt understood us the most. After deciding on Capers, we found that Kristin was very responsive to our requests and suggestions, and really did everything she could to execute our vision, including helping us set up our own dessert table and transforming a bare arts center into a grand ballroom complete with gold chivari chairs and candles throughout.
We received tons of compliments on the food, which was definitely one of the most important things to me! The passed hors d'oeuvres were so unique and special - mini lobster rolls, grilled cheese batons with tomato soup shooters, their list is endless!
If you work with Capers, know that you're working with an experienced team that produces high calibre food, provides exceptional service, and helps to make your wedding vision come true!
We used Capers Catering for our wedding, and we have nothing but good things to say about them. When we did our tasting, the chef was very accommodating with our preferences/needs. The food was amazing, and we knew right away that we wanted to use Capers for our wedding. Throughout the wedding planning process, we worked with Kristin O'Connor and she was amazing at knowing even the smallest details about the venue. It made the planning process so much easier, and she made sure that everything would be setup smoothly for the wedding. On the wedding day, Kristin overlooked the setup, and made sure that the day went as planned. Of course, the food was delicious, and all the guests were amazed with the food. We highly recommend Capers!
Capers Catering catered our wedding that took place on July 27, 2013 at the Courageous Sailing Center in Charlestown, MA.
From beginning to end of the wedding process, Capers was amazing to work with. Kristin O'Connor was our catering coordinator who alongside her amazing chef, John and her team, Kate and Dulce who were there with us to celebrate the big day allowed for the day-John, my husband and our families could not have been happier with the way everything went on the Big Day.
The food was fantastic, the set-up of the tent was gorgeous, the service was amazing-honestly can not say enough great things.
Although I do not plan on having another wedding (sad because it truly was the happiest day of our life!) I will absolutely use them when I have a special event that needs a full service caterer like Capers.
Thank you all you made our wedding amazing!
My wedding was at Codman Estate, Lincoln, MA, in August 2013. Historic New England (who run the Estate as a historic property and event space) have a limited list of caterers they trust to trust the site well and will work well with the site staff. When I got around to researching, I was so glad they directed me to Capers. From the start, Kate was assigned to our event, and she was very helpful and easy to reach. She was easy to talk to and work with about budget constraints.
We went for a tasting (adding another person at the last minute who they accommodated beautifully) and you could tell that the staff there truly cared about the taste, variety and presentation of the food we would be serving. I did some things for the wedding myself, but I really appreciated that they worked with Historic New England and the Codman Estate to take care of chairs and linens and let me know what sort of things I'd have to take care of- they helped me be organized. We had some special lemonades served before our ceremony and these fabulous passed hors d'oeurves immediately after. They took care of the bar and our signature drinks and all the servers I spoke to were so nice and professional.
We had a variety of cupcakes and ice cream sundaes instead of traditional wedding cake and people raved about it.
The thing that made Capers and Kate so special was that she acted as a sort of "wedding planner" for us on the day of the event. I knew she was keeping track of the time and the details and that everything was running smoothly so I could really enjoy the event.
I cannot stress how delicious our dinners were- to start we had little salads with flowers on them then, braised boneless short ribs or salmon or a stacked vegetable dish for vegans. I was absolutely and totally happy with all of it and my guests loved it.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company and it's employees. Working with Capers was by far one of my favorite parts about our wedding. I am allergic to gluten, so I just assumed that I wouldn't be eating much at our wedding in order to accommodate the guests. That was absolutely not the case, Capers did almost a completely gluten free menu for us and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. The most incredible part was that the guests didn't even know the food was gluten free, and they raved about it as well. Additionally, working with Kate and John to create our menu was a blast. My husband Frank and I spend a lot of time in South Carolina and they were able to take recipes from our favorite restaurants and recreate them! Not only were Kate and John fabulous to work with, but their staff that worked our wedding was amazing too. Literally, the kindest and most thoughtful catering company I have ever met! I know that it can seem like a huge amount of money to go with a caterer, but look no further than Capers. You will NOT be disappointed. I really hope that we'll get a chance to work with them again in the near future!
We used Capers for our June 2014 wedding at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation (CRMI), upon the recommendation of our wedding planner (Emilie Chang of Pink Orchid Weddings). From the tasting we did in June 2013 to the delicious cupcakes that ended our wedding reception, we had a wonderful experience with Capers staff. We worked with Kate Monteiro and the chef to design a menu of passed hors d'oeuvres (mini lobster rolls, spring rolls, watermelon feta cups, and crab cakes), salad, stations (sliders, mac and cheese, and tacos) with three types of cupcakes for dessert. They helped us accommodate allergies (nut and soy) as well as vegan and gluten-free diets. Kate was so helpful and knowledgeable about catering and about the CRMI space and logistics that we never worried one bit about how the catering would go. The food also turned out amazing. Our guests could not stop raving about it!
I have been married for one month now and I am still hearing from people that the food at the wedding was amazing...and there were a lot of foodies there. :) I am not one to normally write reviews but after our experience with Capers Catering I was compelled. It started right from the beginning. I rushed from work to make it to our appointment after a 12 hour day through the snow and they had hot cider in a mason jar upon my arrival. Kristin was very professional, organized, and quite frankly wonderful. We discussed food options, threw out ideas that weren't even on the menu and discussed multiple options, all the while being excited about food and the anticipated event. They offered to go above and behind with everything, including but not limited to, helping with putting out a few last minute decorations, adding cider to the menu the day before the wedding, one staff member even offered to tie my wife's shoe when she couldn't bend down. The staff was overly friendly, professional, and diligent. If you are having any hesitations wether to hire Capers Catering quite frankly you are crazy. :)
Kate from Capers was one of the main reasons my wedding day went off without a hitch. The food was delicious, she was incredibly easy to work with in advance (according to my mother), and they received rave reviews from everyone in attendance. We trusted them to make many of the decisions (where to put the bar, number of servers etc), and from set up to clean up, everything was run very smoothly. All service staff that I interacted with were friendly, and my father gave instructions to a few to follow me around with mini lobster rolls...I may have been the only well-fed bride ever! They set a schedule, stuck to it, and checked in often to make sure we were all happy. It was the first time Capers had worked our venue, and our host said that they did an impeccable job breaking down and cleaning, and she plans on using them in the future. As a side-note, we were thrown a day after brunch and they catered that as well, and it was also insanely delicious. I usually find catered brunch food to be disappointing, but theirs was far better than most restaurants' breakfast.
The entire Capers team was amazing from the beginning to the very end. They were highly professional, detail-oriented, incredibly friendly and fun. Their menu and dishes were both beautiful and scrumptious. For weeks after the reception, guests continually gave their own rave reviews to us. They were a true pleasure to work with and we'd choose them over again every time.
I cannot say enough how amazing Capers was with all aspects of our wedding. When my wife and I went for our tasting, Kristin genuinely wanted to get to know us before talking business. As a result, we felt comfortable working with Capers from start to finish and they did everything we asked to nail every part of our menu. When we called Capers the week of our wedding to request a new beer, they said no problem, and made it happen. On our wedding day, the Capers staff took care of us and our guests, and they were a seamless part of the night.
As for the food, it was amazing. From the mini lobster rolls during cocktail hour to the flank steak and mac n' cheese bar, to the cake pops and chocolate dipped Oreos, everything was a hit. Our guests raved about the food and we agreed with all the compliments they shared.
Capers also did an amazing job incorporating personal touches throughout our wedding. Feature cocktails were a highlight along with signage and decor items that complimented our theme perfectly.
There is absolutely nothing I would want to change about how Capers managed our menu, bar, decor, and service. We have received rave reviews about our wedding and we know that Capers was a huge part of the reason why. We would absolutely recommend Capers to any couple who is planning their wedding and we know they will receive the same quality of service and food we did!
Capers was wonderful to work with and the food was delicious! Kate was our contact person, and she was super responsive, accommodating, and helpful. She was the closest person we had to a wedding planner. She helped us choose the food and table settings, work through the timeline and details of the day, and coordinate with our other vendors. She met with my parents and I at the rental store to choose tablecloths and settings, and then took a photo and emailed it to my florist on the spot. She talked through the timeline hour-by-hour so my fiancee and I could understand the flow of the day and make decisions about how we wanted everything to go. After doing the final site visit, she created and emailed us maps of the facility and the reception with all the details we discussed (dinner tables, cocktail tables, cake table, DJ table, bars, etc.). My mother-in-law wanted to do something special with the desserts in addition to the cake, and Capers helped us achieve her vision. Kate always responded to emails quickly and professionally. She also dealt with last minute changes with ease and flexibility. Guests emailed us the week of the wedding with food requests ranging from gluten free, to no nuts/seeds, to vegan. We also had a few guests drop/add at the last minute, including a couple who decided to bring their 6-year-old and not tell us until we met him at the wedding. Throughout all of this, Capers was pleasant and adjusted easily to the changes. My one moment of disappointment was when I realized (late in the process) that I had misunderstood and thought that Kate would be there to coordinate everything on the actual day; she actually coordinates everything with an Event Manager who is the person there on the actual day. I was nervous to hear that, but Kate had been so wonderful and organized throughout the process that I trusted everything would be fine, and it was. She still made time to stop by to say hello at the wedding, and the Event Manager was terrific.
Capers catered our wedding at the Peabody Essex Museum and WOW, was the food delicious. We got so many compliments on all the food and how it was served hot. The pacing of the courses and attention to some allergies/food restrictions was great.
We also really enjoyed working with Kristin! She is friendly, knowledgeable, responsive, and all-around great at her job. We had some craziness with needing extra-large tables and custom made-to-order linens to go with them, all at the last minute. Kristin jumped through hoops with the equipment rental folks to make sure we had what we needed, on time. She also worked with our baker, and the PEM coordinator, and generally made things easy for us.
This review can't omit the fantastic three hour tasting we had, with lots of great food to try and good conversation and no feeling of being rushed or pressured to sign.
The only reason for four stars is that Capers is also very expensive. You are definitely paying for the excellent food and excellent client service. As foodies with the ability to afford Capers, it was worth it for us because the only other option was Hawthorne. In seriously considering Hawthorne, it's a good value -- MUCH cheaper, and also much lower quality food and client service in our experience.
Capers catered our wedding at the Codman Estate in Lincoln, MA in August 2014. We couldn't have been happier with them.
We interviewed a number of other businesses. We were looking for one that could work within our budget and, more importantly, understood us.
Communication was also very important to us. Neither the bride nor groom were living locally so the majority of planning had to take place over emails and through phone calls. We wanted to work with people that were quick to respond and were available.
Capers blew our expectations out of the water on all fronts. We worked with Kate Monteiro and she was the epitome of professional, responsive, inspirational, calm, and kind.
Kate worked with us to plan every detail of our menu and worked to incorporate small things that wove together our past, present, and future lives together. Her ability to take disconnected ideas that we provided her and pull them together into a cohesive menu was outstanding.
Jon, the chef, was also terrific to work with. When we went for our tasting he seemed to understand quickly what we were looking for and was enthusiastic about tweaking different dishes to make sure we would have the perfect meal for the perfect day. He did not make us feel bad for requesting changes and seemed happy to add things to the menu in order to capture and reflect our vision.
Capers stood out to us as being different from other options in that they anticipated our needs. Neither my husband nor I have been planning our wedding since we were little and Kate and Jon did not wait for us to ask questions. Instead they anticipated our needs and helped us work through difficult decisions that we didn't even have on our radar. Their ability to help manage the two of us through the planning process with patience and kindness made a huge difference.
In one particular moment that could have washed the entire wedding away, literally, Kate managed to re-arragane the entire ceremony and reception in a matter of minutes. With 40 minutes to go until our outdoor ceremony, the 10% chance of rain turned to 100% chance of floods and about 150 phones went off simultaneously with emergency warnings. Kate calmly implemented a workaround and saved the day. The food was wonderful, and not waterlogged and our guests were comfortable even after they had to squeeze into our plan-b option in the carriage house.
People are still telling us how great the food was.
In addition to providing great food, Capers was so easy to work with. There were other caterers a bit less expensive, but we chose Capers because it was clear that they would find a way to meet our needs. On the wedding day, we didn't have to worry about a thing, leaving us to thoroughly enjoy our own wedding.
My wife and I thought we were going to end up working with a different local caterer but we started having second thoughts after some red flags, so we called up Capers and were invited up for a tasting.
While we were sampling a plate of hors d'oeuvres, chef Jon came out and we talked about which apps we really loved (the mini lobster rolls are a MUST and the mini grilled cheese rectangles with creamy tomato soup shooters!), and we talked about a couple options that we didn't think fit in quite as well with what we had in mind so he asked us a few questions to determine what we really liked and what the feel of our wedding would be and then he ran back into the kitchen and excitedly and immediately showed us some potential other options. It was awesome that he was so open and receptive to changing things up and really took the time to talk to us and hear about our favorite restaurant experiences and that kind of thing to gauge what we were looking for. The entire tasting was fantastic and between chef Jon and Kate, we were really happy that we ended up calling them and we knew without a doubt that we wanted to hire Capers.
Kate was truly fantastic to work with. She is so organized and responsive and knowledgable and she made everything super easy for us. She helped point out things we could do to make our service run as smoothly as possible and we were so appreciative. She is invaluable and a total rock star! And she was responsible for so much more than just the catering since we had both our ceremony and reception on site at the Lyman Estate. Everything was literally perfect!
In addition to the excellent service, the food was incredible. Everything that Capers did not only met our expectations but exceeded them. The food on our wedding day was even better than it was at the tasting and we thought it was amazing then! The flavors were bright and crisp and balanced and the plating and service were impeccable. Our guests are still raving about everything, over two weeks later.
We feel so fortunate that we ended up calling Capers. It turned out to be the best decision ever!
The food was displayed beautifully and it all tasted fantastic! The team did a great job serving and taking care of all of the guests with very little direction.
My fiancé and I used Capers for our wedding in June 2014. Everyone that we dealt with was super professional and organized, especially Kate, our catering planner. She was very quick to respond to all of my emails/calls and open to helping us make substitutions so we could stay within our budget. The chef did a great job creating a dairy free menu, and the presentation of the food & beverages was so beautiful that decorations weren't needed on the food stations.
My only complaint is that I wish the catering director had made us plates of everything for later, since we were so busy with our guests & wedding responsibilities that we only got to taste maybe half of the food that was served. Kind of a shame since we spent so much on it! Overall, though, I would definitely recommend them to anyone planning a wedding in the Boston area!
Highly recommend Capers, these guys are great to work with and made planning our wedding so much easier.
First, everything they made was delicious. I still have people commenting on how great the food was 6 months later. During the menu planning, they were really great at offering suggestions that fit the vibe and atmosphere we were going for. They also made a number of customizations, as I am vegan, but none of my guests were. I wanted enough options where I could get a good meal, as I was paying for this, but I didn't want my guest to feel alienated and like they were being served "weird" food.
In addition to the food, one of the really key things about Capers is that they provide you a coordinator. We worked with Kate, who was incredible. I initially expected that our coordinator would really just oversee the production of the meal. No, Kate goes above and beyond there. She helps you with the timelines, she helps you with the rentals, she helps make sure all the other vendors are where they need to be. She responds super quickly to all communication, including the roughly 50+ emails and calls she got from my mom during her "brainstorming." She really goes above what would be expected of a catering manager. We even had a couple of extra people show up to our wedding (they thought that they could bring dates, even though their invite was for one). Kate realized this before the reception even started and was able to coordinate the extra seating and place settings so that none of the additional people felt uncomfortable.
Five stars all around. Working with them takes away a lot of stress out of the process and the day of.
I cannot imagine our wedding without Kate and Capers!
My husband and I were unable to conduct a tasting before committing to a caterer, which put a lot more pressure on our first point of contact and initial proposal. Kate immediately impressed us with her responsiveness, attention to detail and creativity – our very first proposal from Kate was exactly what we were looking for!
Throughout the planning process, Kate was professional, knowledgeable, organized, hard working, enthusiastic and supportive. She helped up decide on and secure our rentals, led us through a wonderful tasting experience, put together an optimal floor plan for our 3-floor venue, create a wedding timeline and much more! Kate fully immersed herself in understanding our vision and I valued her every recommendation.
At our tasting, we had the most positive experience with Kate and chef John. We were blown away by the quality of food from the appetizers to entrees to late night snacks and appreciated their efforts to make the tasting special and enjoyable. Kate always strikes the perfect balance between professionalism and making the process personal!
Kate played a most integral role in the planning, execution and overall success of our wedding. On our wedding day, Capers above and beyond delivered what we had imagined and so much more! Kate, Diane and the entire Capers team were attentive, gracious and hard working. They made our wedding flow perfectly and pulled everything together from decorations to keeping us on schedule. During cocktails, servers delivered beverages and appetizers to our wedding party as we took some final pictures together. Diane regularly checked in during dinner to make sure my husband and I had everything we needed and some of the servers even rushed to get me a piece of cake since I didn’t have time to sit during the dessert!
Thank you Kate and Capers for the most wonderful experience!
Caper’s was AMAZING! I contacted a few caterers and Caper’s was the first to respond and also provided the best price and menu. Our contact at Caper’s was Kristin and she was so wonderful about getting back to my emails quickly and helping me with anything extra for the wedding (for example, they took care of making “reserved” signs for the ceremony). The food was phenomenal and beautifully presented! Caper’s not only provided the food, they really made the event happen. Diane was our coordinator for the day and she was perfect! She made sure everything was set-up (including all of my DIY projects) and checked in regularly to see if there was anything my husband or I needed. In fact, one of the staff members tracked my husband and I down with a plate of appetizers during the cocktail hour (we were having some trouble bustling my dress and it was taking a lot longer than we expected), which we really appreciated because otherwise we would have missed them completely! All of the staff was very professional, friendly, and just wonderful! We can’t say enough good things about Caper’s and if we ever need a caterer again, we will be calling them!
