Trust me on this one...From the moment my fiance (wife now!) and I walked into Cellar 222 we knew this was where we wanted to get married. The staff was very friendly and worked with us to help plan the perfect day. Our wedding was something we were planning on a strict budget and we were amazed at the fact that we actually fit (comfortably might I add) 127 people, a DJ, and 2 bars in this space with a little room to spare. Plenty of room for the caterers to prepare and store extra food, a brand new area for my wife to get ready in private with her bridesmaids, and beautiful furniture were just a few of the bonuses. They were very flexible on times for setup and tear down. The back alley access provided a great place for the caterers, DJ and bar staff to come in with minimal disruption. The fireplace setting is beautiful. I promise that all through the night almost anyone we talked to that came to the wedding asked how we found this place and commented on how perfect it was. Even if you aren't like us and have no budget.... you absolutely have to check this place out. I couldn't imagine our day being this perfect had it not been at Cellar 222.

We got married two weeks ago and were so happy with our choice of venue! Cellar 222 was above and beyond our expections, making for a perfect intimate wedding and reception. The space is unique and needs little outside decorations (pictures do not it justice!). Scott was very easy to work with, flexible and informative, helping to minimize the stress of a wedding day. Would strongly recommend Cellar222 for anyone looking for that special, one of a kind wedding celebration!

We held our rehearsal dinner at Cellar 222. It was an amazing venue and all of our guests raved about it. We did not even need to decorate the space because it was already so nice with the stone and mortar, fireplace, light fixtures and wine cabinets. We planned our event from out of state and Scott was so accommodating and easy to work with. He made the planning process go so smoothly and always returned phone calls quickly. I highly recommend using Cellar 222 for your rehearsal dinner or reception.

My wife and I spent quite a bit of time researching and reviewing various venues to hold our wedding reception. The issues that we encountered were virtually the same everywhere we looked... too big, too expensive or both. That is until we came across Cellar 222. The online site was helpful to gain an impression of the area. We liked the fact that the building had some local history and was located near the heart of downtown Kansas City and had easy access to and from multiple areas of interest. The Crossroads art district, Westport, the Plaza, the River Market, and Crown Center are all within of 5 miles with an abundance of hotels nearby. When we stopped by to meet with Scott White, the proprietor, we were taken in by the simple elegance of the area. It is a bit sparse in the decorations, but that only enhanced the beauty of the space itself... stone and mortar interior, a fireplace and mantle, simple hanging lighting. And the area itself. Most of our excursions left us feeling swallowed up in a cavernous wasteland. Cellar 222 encircled us in its warm embrace. Not cramped at all, but perfect for our wedding party size (80-90). Scott was very helpful in explaining the amenities of the area (ipod/stereo/microphone jack, full sound system, prep room/kitchen for caterers, tables and chairs on site, wet bar area & table) and their website has links to preferred vendors, though it is important to note that these vendors are suggestions only. There is an ample parking lot for your guests. Cellar 222 also provides security for your event to oversee the interior as well as the parking lot for an additional charge. This is truly a DIY type venue, to be as simple or elaborate as you wish it to be. Any caterer that you want need only have a catering license and be welcomed. Any alcohol vendor you wish may provide, or if you have a friend with his liquor service card, buy the alcohol and serve it yourself. Decorate as much or as little as you wish. The only stipulation is that you leave the space as you found it. There are no obligations that tend to add up and up and up to be included. We had a wonderful time that was less buttoned up, more intimate and more fun than we hoped it could be.

I work in the wedding and event industry. I stumbled upon Cellar 222 on the Knot. After touring the facility, I was sold! They are really affordable especially given that you receive all necessary tables, chairs, sound system, wine chillers, etc. with your rental cost. Not to mention that the space is gorgeous! It isn't your typical wedding ballroom. The existing wine cabinets, fireplace, and soft seating really add something special. Scott and Stephanie were both really great to work with. They were very prompt in correspondence even after our date was booked with them. They are obviously just as concerned with keeping existing clients happy as they are with reserving future events. I had plenty of time for set up and they were really accommodating regarding the caterer. Our deposit was handled fairly and was discussed very shortly after the event. This team is highly professional. I would recommend them for weddings and corporate events alike.

I used Cellar 222 for both my wedding ceremony and reception, and I am so glad I did. Scott, the venue manager/owner, was great to work with; he always answered my emails within an hour or two and really bent over backwards to help make my big day special. Unlike some other venue managers, Scott works GREAT with other vendors (my caterer was very impressed and appreciative of this). The space itself is perfect for a wedding; it was acoustically and aesthetically breathtaking. My string trio sounded amazing, and my wedding pictures were both beautiful and unique. It's really an extraordinary value.

Cellar 222 was the perfect location for our wedding rehearsal dinner. We hosted about 90 guests and found the location to be casual yet beautiful. Stephanie was very helpful and answered all of our questions. We really liked the fireplace and rustic stonework throughout. One small drawback is that there is no elevator to the lower level which made it a bit challenging for a few of our older guests. We used the caterers, bartenders and rental companies recommended by Cellar 222 and found them to be helpful and professional as well. Since our event, I've recommended this location to friends for a wedding reception, a bridal shower and a class reunion. A lovely location with great service!

We held our wedding reception here and it was BEAUTIFUL. We were so happy with how it turned out, and all of our guests raved about how unique and beautiful our wedding reception was.
Scott and Cy were both very helpful. We worked primarily with Scott and Stephanie. They were both easy to get a hold of and prompt to respond with any help or questions we had.
For a Saturday night in downtown Kansas City, you could not have beat the price for such an amazing venue!

This is a hidden gem in Kansas City! From the moment we walked into Cellar 222 we knew it was the perfect place for our wedding reception. We were on a pretty tight budget and didn't want to spend a fortune just on a reception venue. The price is very affordable and it is such a beautiful and unique place that you don't need to decorate much. It is definitely not the place for large weddings but perfect for more intimate events. We had about 90 people at our reception. My guests couldn't get over how perfect the place was. The sound system is perfect to use so that you don't need to pay for a DJ. The best part was the working fireplace since it was pretty chilly the night of our wedding reception. The staff who run the space are all super friendly and accommodating. This is definitely a must see for any event.

I am originally from Kansas City, and all of my family is there. We now live elsewhere, and planed our wedding long distance. We researched many venues for our wedding day and had to schedule appointment after appointment for one single weekend. You can imaging what a whirl wind of a weekend we had! In addition to venues, we were also meeting with photographers, DJs', florists, and more!
My husband found Cellar 222 online, told me where is was located and booked the appointment. Then had to reschedule twice because of other inflexible vendors. Scott worked with us from day one, even before we had seen how beautiful his venue is! He and his staff are very accommodating, pleasant and professional.
From the moment we pulled up to the vintage brick building in the Crossroads District, we instantly loved the location. The large antique doors opened into a beautiful brick and stone room with wonderful natural light from the big windows. As we descended into the cellar on the wood floor staircase, we were submerged in a warm and inviting room. Then we saw the stone fireplace with the reclaimed wood mantle. Done!
The venue was perfect for our small intimate wedding, without breaking the budget (this was one area where we came in under budget!). The room was large enough for dinner, dancing, and even a leather sofa for relaxing. Scott recommended some vendors, and from there our plans started coming together!
We got married in front of the fireplace, took pictures in the urban setting outside, and enjoyed a wonderful night of dinner and dancing! Stephanie was wonderful the day of the wedding, and the night of our rehearsal.
I recommend Cellar 222 for any event, weddings, receptions, maybe even a wedding anniversary!
Thank you Cellar 222 for setting the perfect stage for our perfect wedding day!

Cellar 222 is absolutley beautiful. At first glance, didn't look like a venue that would be within budget. But once we found out the price, it was an easy decision. Not to mention being able to choose any licensed caterer/bartender. We saved so, so, so much money and really got to personaize the whole event. We made all of our own decor and had more than enough time to decorate for the event (we didn't need much honestly because it already looks so nice). They have a good relationship with Accent rentals who was also extremely affordable. Another HUGE bonus was the amazing sound system. I flew in a friend from out of town to DJ and all he needed was his computer. They have wireless mics, great sound quality. You don't have to worry about your DJ's sound system crapping out on you and ruining the fun! All-in-all, we spent way, way less on our wedding than average but you never would've thought it. We had about 100 people and there was more than enough room with only the bottom floor! Stephanie, Scott, and Cy were always friendly and quick to respond to our questions. I would recommend this venue to anyone, especially if you want to be able to pick your own vendors. Perfect experience!

Cellar 222 was a fantastic venue for our wedding! We went in expecting only 130 guests, our final count was up to 161. The venue had never held that many people before. At first we were all worried about the space feeling cramped. It worked out perfectly! Scott, Steve, and Stephanie were all fantastic to work with. They all made sure to keep me in the loop and make sure we were on schedule. They went out of their way to work with our vendors to make sure everything was scheduled correctly.
I would recommend this location for a wedding ceremony, reception, business party, ANYTHING! It's truly an amazing space...the details and structure of the building creates a wonderful ambiance.
Reasonable price for the venue, and then being able to go with any vendors for food, alcohol, anything really helped us save $$! Absolutely no complaints!

Cellar 222 was the perfect place to hold our wedding. It was elegant, intimate, warm and beautiful. We had plenty of room for the ceremony dinner and dancing. The space is also so pretty that no outside decorations are needed. They had plenty of chairs and long tables at the venue for our use. It was also nice to be able to bring in our own caterer and alcohol. Cy and Scott were great to work with. Cellar 222 is a great value, but looks like a million bucks!

I was looking for a space that wasn't a boring ballroom and I found it with Cellar 222! I didn't need to decorate at all except for the tables they provided. I was able to use both the upstairs and the downstairs to fit around 120 people. It was difficult to organize what should be on which floor but it turned out great! The place is hard to beat with such a great look and affordable price. The only downside is that you have to set up and tear down all the tables and chairs and the 8 hours that are given in the space for everything including set up and the use by the caterers is hardly enough. Scott was so easy to work with though and he responded quickly to any questions I had. He allows you to choose any caterer and bring in your own alcohol. Also, we didn't have to use a DJ because there is a sound system that can be played with an iPod. Overall, it was the best place we could have chosen!

We loved this venue because it is unique and feels intimate (rather than a huge warehouse feel). Cellar 222 does not need very many decorations because the floors, walls, etc are already beautiful! Also, I never had any difficulty communicating or getting phone calls back!

Our wedding was on July 6, and so many of our friends complimented us on Cellar 222. It was an awesome space that I think reflected my partner's and my personalities. It's intimate, edgy yet sophisticated, and hidden.
I worked mostly with Scott, who was very professional. He let us come in to see the space and plan a few times before our event. Since the venue tends to be on the lower end of the cost spectrum, it meant more work on our part. We would have to set up and tear down/clean up all by ourselves. I had a day-of coordinator, which is ESSENTIAL, I feel, if you go with this venue. If you can get a friend or someone who is just starting out to fill this role (like we did), even better.
It doesn't have an elevator, so a few of the older guests balked at coming. The ones that did come might have had a bit of trouble, but they thought the space was nice enough to be worth it. (there are about 10 steps to get into the building, then a full flight down into the event space).
Minimal decorating was necessary, which was another huge plus. But you do have to hire a security guard and a licensed bartender if you serve alcohol. No cash bars allowed, which didn't bother me. My guests drank box wine and liked it, haha! Overall, the ability to go with your own catering is so important if you have a budget wedding like ours, so that really puts this place on any practical bride's short list.
The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because I ultimately felt the 8 hour time frame they gave us to use the space made me feel rushed, plus there seemed to be a discrepancy as to when they were able to lock up the building afterwards. I know we left 10 min before our time was up. Scott was very understanding and said a happy client was worth forgetting about the extra half hour of security time in question, so all fees were waived. Can't wait to see how our pictures turned out from this gorgeous venue!

Cellar 222 was a great venue for our small (75 guests) ceremony and reception. Even though it's downstairs, it's a very light, open layout, and there are a handful of small windows that provide great natural lighting well into the evening. The stone and other decor throughout the venue was a nice complement to our simple, nature-themed decor, and I think it would work equally well with almost any decor theme - it's already so pretty in there that you really don't need to do much.
The sound system is great - I'm sure it would accommodate a professional DJ setup well, but we went a more DIY route, which was as easy as plugging in our iPad and letting our premade playlist go the whole night.
Scott and Cy, who manage the space, are incredibly professional and made us feel confident that everything would go as planned on our big day (and it did!). They have a list of preferred vendors but are extremely open to working with whatever caterers, cake bakers, and any other wedding vendors you choose. You can also bring in your own alcohol, which will save you a bundle of money.
Tables and chairs are included in the rental, which is great. We did Tuscan-style seating for 75 people and ended up needing to rent just a couple of additional long tables and 2 small round tables for the cake and the bride/groom "sweetheart" table. There was plenty of room for this configuration, but if you plan on having dancing, you'll want to work with your caterer to put away some of the tables to clear a dance floor.
If you plan to have your ceremony and reception in the same space (as we did), you may want to budget for a couple of additional hours - the eight-hour block you are allotted with the rental fee includes decoration, day-of vendor setup, actual event, room flip, and cleanup time. Cy and Scott were more than accommodating in this respect, allowing us to view the space a couple of times in the months and weeks before the wedding. We were also able to come in the afternoon before our wedding to pre-decorate, which made our wedding day go much more smoothly.
Overall, I highly recommend Cellar 222 for any event you're planning for 50-100 guests. Our guests complimented all night on how lovely the space is, and even our photographer was impressed with it. It was just perfect. Scott and Cy, thanks again for everything!

For my husband and my small group (100 guests) this venue was perfect. We had looked at several spaces, but when we visited the Cellar, there was a feeling of "this is the place for us." The space is just darling, and needs very little extra decorating--we only decorated the fireplace and our tables, and also had a few pictures around. My guests commented on how neat the place was. Cy and Scott were both very attentive to my every need. The pricing cannot be beaten and quality is not sacrificed to keep prices low. Plus, bringing in your own caterer and bartending service is a great option to save money and have exactly what you want. the use of the sound system, tables, and chairs is included in the rental, all of which exceeded our needs and expectations. Cellar 222 is a truly unique venue for anyone who wants great service and a classy setting in downtown KC without the downtown ticket price. I highly recommend using this space!

Cellar 222 is a great event space. We celebrated both our wedding ceremony and reception @ the Cellar. You will love the atmosphere and the tuscany decor! It is one of the more reasonably priced locations in KCMO. You can bring in your own catering and alcohol which is a big plus. The owners, Scott and Cy, are terrifc to work with!. Thank you for making our day very special @ The Cellar 222.

Cellar 222 was the perfect place for my wedding. I instantly fell in love with the Tuscan wine cellar feel it has to it and the price is hard to pass up. Scott was also great to work with and got back to me VERY quickly when I e-mailed him with questions. The event looked great and we got many compliments from our guests. I would highly recommend this venue!
