Barbara is kind of spunky and really fun to work with, plus her arrangements were gorgeous! Our wedding colors (emerald green and champagne) made it a little tricky when it came to flowers, as there are very very few flowers that are actually green. But Barbara showed me a ton of pictures, and looked carefully at the pictures I brought, and got really creative with a combination of succulents and orchids and other things I've never heard of, and made an elegant yet a little nontraditional arrangement that I couldn't stop looking at! I few of our guests posted picture on Facebook and Instagram specifically of the centerpieces, commenting on how amazing they were. She also did me a huge favor and blocked a really ugly statue we were going to stand in front of for the ceremony with a beautiful trellis draped in fabric and greenery. Wonderful experience all around!
Barbara at Growing Wild is such fun and worked magic with our limited floral budget. Although my fiancee and I are both floral novices, Barbara helped craft a look for our wedding that was even better than we could have imagined and was also still very "us". Amazing!
Loved this florist. Barbara worked with my budget and helped me come up with great ideas for my bouquets and arrangements. She listened to what I already had going on and noted what I liked to come up with a vision for my wedding flowers. I ended up using hydrangeas in the large and table arrangements, mini calla lilies for my bouquet, a mix of carnations/roses/callas for bridesmaids bouquets, and roses for personal flowers. They were absolutely amazing. Barbara was professional, responsive, and enthusiastic about doing my wedding.
We had the most wonderful experience working with Barbara. She was really able to carry out my vision and was extremely flexible, understanding, and all around a joy to work with.
We hired Barbara as our florist for our August wedding in Arlington, VA. I am a person who knows very little about flowers. When I met with Barbara for an initial consultation, all I had for her was my color palette and a general idea of the overall look I was going for (e.g. elegant, classic). Seeing how Barbara turned those vague ideas into the most beautiful floral decorations of any wedding I’ve been to, I can truly say she is a master at what she does. During the consultation, she asked me many detailed questions that no other florist had asked me, including how tall I am (to determine what size bouquet would be most fitting for me). She listened very well to the things I told her were important to me, and took those all into consideration in creating our floral décor. We had a Persian wedding ceremony, which included a traditional wedding spread (sofreye aghd) – though Barbara had never previously decorated such a spread, she looked at the pictures I sent her and listened to the descriptions I gave her, and enthusiastically created such amazing floral arrangements for our spread that gave such a stunning look to our entire ceremony. For our reception centerpieces, she took the idea I had presented to her and infused it with her creativity and brilliance to make it far more beautiful than I could have imagined. Furthermore, she was very respectful of our budget restrictions and worked with me by using many of the flowers she grows on her farm in order to help us cut costs and remain within our budget. (I met with several other florists and most of them didn’t even ask me what my floral budget was). Finally, on our wedding day, Barbara went above and beyond our expectations, providing me with an extra bouquet to use for our outdoor first-look photos so my actual bouquet didn’t wilt in the summer heat prior to the ceremony. Barbara is not only an amazing florist, but also a wonderful person who truly enjoys what she does. Thank you Barbara for making our wedding such a beautiful day!
We wanted our event to feel bright, sunny, and festive -- like a true celebration. That's about the only guidance we gave Barbara, and we would have been foolish to have given her more, because she knows how to light up a room better than anyone. Her gorgeous flowers -- grown on her own farm -- made the room feel full of joy and life. The chuppah was stunning -- I've had about 40 people tell me that in the last 24 hours. And man, she works fast.
Barbara has extraordinary vision and great creativity. I imagine, if you have a view of what you want, she's perfect, and if you are like me -- or you just want to trust the expert (which I recommend) -- you will walk out and see arrangements that are absolutely perfect for the space, for the mood you want.... she's just awesome.
Finally, she's also a really cool person. You'll be glad you met her.
When my daughter & I went to Barbara to plan the flowers for her wedding, all we knew is that we wanted fall colors and unusual flowers. Barbara showed my daughter pictures of flowers and my daughter commented whether or not she liked them. From that point, Barbara was only given guidelines as to tall centerpieces, aisle flowers, etc. We left her alone to create, and what she created took my breath away! It was more beautiful than anything I had pictured in my mind. My daughter thought they were perfection. All of the guests commented on how beautiful they were. Of all of my wedding vendors, I have to say that I was most pleased with the flowers and the cake. I would highly recommend Growing Wild Floral Company.
Long and short:
-Barbara is the friendliest, most knowledgable, most helpful person I met throughout the whole wedding planning process. After meeting with her my mom and I both wanted her to just plan the whole wedding.
-The first thing she asks you is your budget. She promises to stay within it no matter what. (Her minimum is $1800, though).
-From someone who's budget was the minimum, she does not let price get in her way of giving you EXACTLY the flowers you dream of. I loved calla lilies and orchids. These were both very expensive flowers. My bouquet was nothing but calla lilies and orchids...(She did a bouquet for me, a toss bouquet, 5 bridesmaids bouquets, 6 corsages, 8 boutonnieres, 25 center pieces, 2 altar arrangements)
-she asks you to trust her to chose filler flowers so that you can stay in budget. TRUST HER. She really will only use the fillers she needs to (see above) and you won't even notice them.
When my flowers arrived the day of the wedding, I almost fainted. It was like she had read my mind for what I wanted. They were BEAUTIFUL!
Of all the vendors I worked with, Barbara was far and away the most FUN, which is what weddings should be about! I was so thankful to have the helping hands of someone both down to earth and also genuinely talented - a breath of fresh air amid the stress of wedding planning.
Growing Wild's portfolio showed a whole range of styles. Barbara brought my vision to life even though I threw in plenty of curve balls (like bridesmaids dresses in 4 colors).
Guest after guest gushed that ours was the most beautiful wedding they'd ever been to, and one even described it as a "whimsical, enchanted fairy garden wedding." Others said it looked cinematic. Of course I'm just relishing in the compliments, but I have to give the credit to Growing Wild!
All the flowers were fresh and beautifully arranged. The flowers stayed fresh even though it was quite a hot, humid day. Barbara was easy to work with and really catered to what the bride wanted. A pleasure to work with.
The flowers were one of the most important things to my mom in the wedding, but as the bride I wasn't really sure what exactly I wanted for my flowers, except that I wanted them to be blue. Barbara worked with me to help figure out what styles and types of flowers I like ("fun, funky and textured" in Barbara's words). She also met with my mom while she was in town so that she could see what we were planning. My mom wanted to make sure there were lots of flowers and I know Barbara worked very hard to make that happen with just a short set-up period. Everything was amazing, and I could not have been happier with my flowers!
When I met Barbara at St. Elmos in Del Ray, she was so warm and welcoming and her excitement about flowers was contagious. She immediately got my vision, and had examples of her work to show how we could mix and match flowers. I also liked that a lot of her flowers could be locally grown on her farm (for our April wedding). Her write-up of the florals was hilarious. She just has so much personality that it is hard not to get excited about the flowers even though I hadn't really thought about it, just liked certain looks from magazines. The day of, our flowers were STUNNING. It all seriously looked like it was out of Southern Living or Martha Stewart. I used milk glass containers that I provided to her, but she decided that I didn't have enough for the size of the table. So, she used her own containers to fill out the rest of mine. I felt like I got more value out of her services was more than I could have gotten from other florists with storefronts that I met with. Mostly though, her personality made the experience a fun one, and it definitely came through in our gorgeous wedding flowers.
Barbara from Growing Wild was wonderful! We were on a pretty strict budget and only wanted flowers for the alter, bouquets, and boutonnieres. Barbara worked with our needs and made GORGEOUS bouquets and alter arrangements. When we met with Barbara, I knew we were in good hands. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and fun! I highly recommend Growing Wild Floral Company if you want a personal touch to your wedding flowers!
Barbara was a perfect match for our floral needs. My mom and I met with her in Alexandria and she asked us all the right questions to understand what we wanted -- and the rest we left up to her expert eye. I knew I wanted roses, brought a swatch of my bridesmaids' dress color, and wanted to incorporate some Moroccan elements (including some colorful tea glasses from Merrakech and some gold bowls & lanterns). From there, Barbara worked out a jewel-tone color scheme and designed exquisite bouquets for me, the bmaids, the two styles of centerpieces, and the alter. Everyone was amazed at what a beautiful job she did, and the mix of flowers she included (many from her garden in Delaplane, VA) to compliment the roses. I also appreciated that she was sensitive to budget. I'd definitely recommend Growing Wild Floral Company!
Growing Wild did a wonderful job with ALL of our wedding arrangements!! From our first meeting, Barbara (owner) was very helpful in helping us decide on the flowers we wanted. We knew absolutely NOTHING about flowers but knew what colors we wanted to go with and she was able to capture our vision perfectly!
I will be the first to admit that I know very little about flowers or what I wanted for my September wedding, but Barbara at Growing Wild made the process very simple for us. We met with her once and I explained up front that I didnt know anything about flowers but wanted them to look nice anc classy. She was very patient with my flower ignorance and never made me feel like I was ignorant. Her prices are very reasonable as she grows all her flowers herself so she is able to offer a wider variety of flowers at a lower cost. And most importantly, the flowers really were BEAUTIFUL! We got so many compliments from all of our guests (if you dont trust my opinion :-)
Growing wild was wonderful to work with. I wanted very simple, sleek flowers at my wedding, and they offered great suggestions and always kept price in check. I received many compliments on the beautiful ceremony arrangements, and the room transformed with the calla lily and candle displays they set up. I would highly recommend.
I knew Barbara and Growing Wild would be doing my flowers by the time I left our first appointment. Barbara has such a clever way to understand what you are looking for in your flowers. I came prepared with a few ideas, but I wasn’t quite sure I knew exactly what I wanted. Barbara showed me what seems like hundreds of images and tallied what I like and she nailed it! I loved every arrangement she did. I wanted lots of texture and color and that’s exactly what I got. In addition, my dad repurposed our old hardwood floors into gorgeous flower vases. Barbara was so patient and helpful as my Dad figured out the best way to build something Barbara could use. Everything was perfect and within budget!
growing wild was perfect for our wedding. We worked with Barbara, the owner, who was very hands on and listened to all my ideas. She was very helpful in determining what would work with our color scheme and venue space. I loved our bouquets and floral arrangements. They were on time, the flowers were fresh and I loved that we were able to rent the vases.
Barbara at Growing Wild did such an amazing job with our wedding flowers. As I am someone who knows very little about flowers she walked me through what things were in season, which flowers would hold up throughout the day and what blends well together. Based on our color scheme she helped us see which flowers would provide the most vibrant color and her pricing was incredibly fair. I had described to her what I wanted my bridal bouquet to look like and what she brought me was even better than the image in my mind! I received compliments throughout our wedding day. Our centerpieces were gorgeous and each additional piece she brought to the venue helped to transform the space. A pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend her to any bride.
