While MYC acknowledged their blunders and gave us a small refund (for how much we paid vs. how badly they messed up), I still feel cheated by the venue of what should have been a stress-free, beautiful evening:
It was quite difficult to reach our contact, Amanda, over the phone leading up to the wedding: she did not always respond to our calls or emails, and she had almost no time for us when we drove out to Montauk two weeks before the wedding to discuss final details. Most upsetting, though, despite several requests, we did not get an itemized list/proper proposal from MYC until four days prior to the reception. All the BEOs we received before were confusing and did not at all reflect what we had discussed. However, what we did receive - even before they sent us an itemized proposal - was a request to immediately wire over the final (huge) payment. We accepted all this unprofessional behavior in the hope that the MYC had professional staff on site and could deliver an adequate reception. Unfortunately, we were utterly disappointed. The food was half the size of what was served in the tasting. Folks were still hungry, and the company did not deliver what was agreed in our contract. In detail:
1) We paid a surcharge of $3,200 for better wine. The waiters only offered the cheap wine that was included in the basic package. Even after we complained to the waiters (who had no clue) and I (the bride) had to leave the party to find Amanda and explain, they did not offer the correct wine to all guests, but just put a couple of bottles on the main (our) table to appease us. 2) When we entered the dining hall, it was freezing cold. There was no regard whatsoever for the table setting, despite the fact that I sat with Amanda and very clearly explained it on the wedding day(!!!). The personnel was completely untrained and had no idea what should be served, both in terms of the wine (see above) and in terms of the food: they went around offering only meat and seafood, not the vegetarian dish, even though we told Amanda so many times(!!) that a large (30%) number of our guests were vegetarian -- we even gave them a recipe that the MYC is now using as the standard veggie dish. The liquor bars we paid a premium price for were outside behind closed glass doors, so no one even knew that this was an option. More upsetting, we were served the worst bottom shelf liquor in spite of SO MANY conversations about this and paying so much more for premium. The chocolate fountain was presented at the very beginning of reception and not, as agreed, brought out after the cake. This resulted in ruining our traditional cake cutting moment, because folks had already lined up at the fountain. Once again, Amanda (who had reassured us time and again we’d have nothing to worry about on this day) was nowhere to be found and we were helpless when we needed her. None of the staff knew what was going on at any point in the evening, no one made sure that this wedding flowed beautifully as promised. 4) There was no international coffee station with espresso and chocolates, as promised, but just a couple of thermos with American coffee/tea. The "smores bonfire" was completely unmanned (staff & Amanda had gone to bed!) & a smoky disaster that we had to mess with in wedding attire for 30 minutes before it stopped being a problem. At that point everyone had left. To boot, my BMs told me that staff was SO RUDE and unhelpful to them on the big day as they ran around

When looking for a wedding venue my (now) husband and I had a lot of criteria to be met. The Montauk Yacht Club offered everything we were looking for and more. It goes without saying that the setting is gorgeous but what you may not know just from a visit is how wonderful Michelle, Amanda, and the rest of the catering staff at MYC are to work with.

They were great about communicating and making sure we were happy throughout the whole planning process. The entire staff at the MYC is so detail oriented and just what a bride and groom need to put their minds at ease. When it came time to the actual wedding day they truly made sure our day was seamless and perfect.

Love it! posted 8/25/2013

Perfect location. Have your ceremony on the beach and room for the reception inside. Guests can stay here too and I love their private cottages for the bride and groom. Beautiful location. Love it!
