I chose to do a destination wedding because I wanted to avoid all the stress that comes with planning a traditional wedding. I think it was less stressful, but nowhere near stress free! If you are the type that's been planning your wedding since you were 5 and you have specific expectations for every detail, then this is not for you. Options are limited and I had to make my vision fit what was available.
The planning process started out rocky. My original planner had left the company and I wasn't informed. I wanted to confirm things early, but the resort really doesn't start the process until about 3 months out. It's hard to budget because you don't get the prices of everything until 3 months out. Everything changed once I arrived at the resort, and it all fell into place. The coordinator I worked with at the resort was amazing! She took care of everything and was at all my events.
The resort itself could use some work. We had a moisture and bug issue with our room and had to move. They give you resort credits to use for things like upgraded wine, excursions, etc. but they give you such a hard time when you try to use them. Also, they are constantly trying to sell you their timeshare which is really annoying. Be sure to make all your spa and restaurant reservations early because spots fill up like a week before. It's like the staff is doing too much and they don't know the answer to simple questions so they pass you off to other people over and over until you get mad and start demanding things and then they fix the problem.
The best part: the food! We ate about 5 times a day. The 24 hour room service was great. I would definitely recommend getting a concierge room for the added perks, it was worth it. However, if you are into sweets, you will be disappointed. The desserts sucked! But the wedding cake was good.
The Moon Palace was a perfect place to have a destination wedding. Everything went perfectly! The only negative was the beach - wasn't good for swimming and there was lots of seaweed.
Moon Palace resort offers several wedding collections, we purchased the Amethyst collection a year in advance prior to our wedding. At that time we were contacted by the Miami department, communication was unreliable and took approx 2 weeks to receive a response. Per our contract, we were suppose to have a wedding coordinator contact us 90 days prior to the wedding in order to organize the wedding. 90 days prior to the wedding came and passed, for the next 3 weeks we tried contacting them via email and finally through phone. Finally 45 days prior to the wedding I could finally plan the reception. Once getting there it only became worse. We checked in 3 hours after our arrival because they didn't have our reservation. We brought approx 60 guests and several of our guests had missing dates in their reservations, one of our friend had 3 rooms booked under her name and people were being charged extra nights. Luckily, everyone had confirmation papers for evidence, but even so it at least took an hour for our guests to fix their issues. One of our payment went missing and we were being charged for it again. I had to print my bank statement as proof to show them it was paid. Losing faith and regretting our decision our wedding arrived. On site wedding coordinator Valeria and Karen were amazing!! They made our civil complimentary wedding and the Catholic ceremony (yes 2 wedding ceremonies) amazing and perfect. They genuinely concern and went out of their way for us. The general service at the hotel are also very friendly and amazing nice and are so grateful when you tip them.
Wow talk about a fairy tale! The Moon Palace is very beautiful, elegant and ALL employees are extremely polite and helpful. We really saved ourselfs loads of money by staying here. Its an all-inclusive resort with all meals/drinks free. There are lots of entertainment all times of the day/night. If you stay at this resort you can tie the knot for free. They have packages you can purchase and we purchased the Saphire pacakge, which was truely beautiful. We definetly recommend this place to anyone. You won't regret staying here and much less exchanging your vows!
we will be taking our honeymoon to the place we got engaged. wonderful. hope to retur every year. recommend highly!
We absolutely loved the resort. The staff there really provided excellent service to all of our guests, there were so many comments about how great the service was. The food was good and they had a good drink selection for an all inclusive resort. There were so many activities for our guests while they were there that everyone had a great time doing what they wanted to do on their vacation. It does take a while for communication with the wedding department but they take great care of you when you get down there and they certainly know what they are doing. They focus very closely on the weddings on property so it seems there is a delay in communication with weddings more than one month out. We will certainly go back and I would recommend the resort to anyone looking for nice place for a large destination wedding.
The resort was outstanding and extremely accommodating to all of our guests. The food and the drinks were excellent!!!
I have to admit that my wedding was beautiful, but until we showed up that day, we had no idea what things would look like or how anything would go. They made our lives so stressful and it took away from all of the fun!
