Beautiful Destination Wedding on a Tropical Island posted 11/17/2011 (modified 8/10/2012)

It was always my dream to get married on a tropical island. I fell in love with this location 4 years ago when I attended a friend’s wedding. When it was my turn to walk down the aisle, I looked at many locations, but I kept comparing everything to my friend’s wedding. So, with her blessing, we decided to come back to the same place. We started the "wedding week" on Thursday with a BBQ Beach Bonfire on Taino Beach. We said that was our "Rehearsal Dinner". Lots of Bahama BBQ, Bahama Mamas, a Bonfire, and of course dancing contests! So, by the time the day of the wedding came around, everyone already knew each other. On Friday, we had the actual rehearsal at the gazebo on at Pelican Bay and then everyone went into the Market Place for dinner and fun. Then…wedding day! We had gotten a suite, which I highly recommend. Such a good price for the what you get. The day started at 7am with my crew all around me….lots of hair and make-up and of course relatives coming and going. Once it was time to leave, the girls got into a limo to head to the private beach. The guys had taken the limo earlier to the beach for pictures. The guests all came over on a boat. The boat went all the way up onto the sand and our guest were able to enjoy the sand between their toes. They were greeted with an amazing steel drum player, Wilfred Burrows, and a beautiful ceremony site on the private beach. White chairs, flowers, shells, and all. Once the ceremony was over, more pictures were taken and the guests were taken back to Pelican Bay for a night of dinner and dancing at Neptune’s Pool. Our DJ, DJ Earl Neely, was the BEST! He really kept the party going and was such a fun and professional personality. So, I hope you are starting to see why we had the most amazing week of our life. This location is ideal for many reasons. 1st, the people on the island are so nice. Everyone made me and my guests feel like stars because we were there for the wedding. The ladies at the front desk always had a smile on their face and would go out of their way to help us for any of our needs. The catering and Bar staff were always good fun. They kept everyone entertained and provided good service. And one of my favorite people at the hotel was Stanley. He was the bellman with a heart of gold and drove us around and took care of us. But my all time favorite person was Marva Monroe. She was the wedding planner that works with the hotel. Her level of professionalize and detail are what made the whole week perfect! The 2nd reason this location was ideal was because of how beautiful and authentic everything was. We did not feel like we were on a commercial resort. I love how Pelican Bay provides the charm and beauty of the Bahamas while still providing all the essentials. And our ceremony was on a private beach. We literally got married at the water’s edge. Our guests not only were able to witness our wedding, but were also able to enjoy the beautiful white sandy beach and ocean as the background. It was heaven. And the 3rd reason that I loved this location is because it was an easy trip for the family and friends that were not used to traveling outside of the states. Yes, passports were needed, but they could use their US dollars, plug in their US electronics, and it was less then a 30min plane ride from Miami. Everyone left saying they had the best time. I am so thankful for Marva and Pelican Bay for making our wedding dreams come true!
