We hosted our rehearsal dinner on 4/26/13 at ArtBar, ceremony and reception on 4/27/13 in the Grand Ballroom, and day-after brunch on 4/28/13 in the Parkview Suite. The Sonesta took care of us for these four events over the course of three days, and we could not have asked for a more wonderful experience. Our coordinator, Katie DeNapoli, was such a pleasure to work with; her professionalism, accessibility, and warm nature made the entire process a breeze. The rehearsal dinner at ArtBar was absolutely delicious, the ceremony was beautiful, and the reception in the Grand Ballroom was spectacular. Everyone could not stop raving about the gorgeous view of the Charles River and Boston skyline, the lovely room set-up, and the outstanding food (we went with the Filet Mignon and the Macadamia-Crusted Salmon - both were to die for). The venue also made for exceptional photographs along the Charles. It was truly a dream wedding. I would recommend this venue highly!!
Our wedding was on September 30, 2012, and it was exactly how we had hoped. The food was spectacular and the presentation was so nicely done, everyone was raving about it. The ballroom was decorated so elegantly and the views were amazing overlooking the Charles River. Our wedding planner Trang Spratt guided us through the entire process and everything went so smoothly, she covered every single detail and everything turned out perfectly. I would highly highly recommend working with Trang and the Royal Sonesta for a very elegant reception. We hired Jazz in the Air for our band, they were incredible!!! Everyone absolutely loved the music. They were also very affordable. Whispers of Spring did the most amazing flowers, the most beautiful centerpieces, I very highly recommend both Jazz in the Air and Whispers of Spring as well.
Our August 6th wedding was held at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, and we could not have been happier. Katie, the catering service manager, was there from the beginning to answer any questions and made my entire family at ease. The ballroom is beautiful and the set-up makes for a seamless party. I could not have been happier!!!
We had our wedding at this hotel. The people there were wonderful to work with but at times things seems a little disorganized especially when our event coordinator stopped working there three weeks before the wedding. We had an outside caterer so there were lots of unexpected fees associated with that.
I recently had a block of rooms at the Sonesta for my wedding (which was not at the hotel) in May 2012 and my experience was great. They have very competitive rates and Danielle, the catering assistant in charge of the blocks was very helpful. We were able to add rooms to the block with no charge and no difficulty as rooms were filling up. The hotel even cleaned and freshened up our room between getting ready and after the wedding. My only advice is to request, if you and your groom are also staying there, that your rooms be apart from the block, if that is something you wish. We were right in the middle of family members the night after our wedding.
My wedding coordinator at the hotel was great (which is the only reason I am giving any positive marks) but if I had to do it all again I would have gone to a different hotel. We felt nickel and dimed at every turn. It seemed that whenever the hotel didn’t want to do something they threw out a crazy price. A few of the things we were most upset about: (i) $2.50/glass for a sugar rim and strawberry for my martini glasses (after making a stink about it they reduced the charge to $2/glass); (ii) $170 for use of a microphone for 30 minutes; (iii) lighting quote that was 3 times what was charged by all other vendors ; (iv) the valet parking attendants trying to charge my guests for parking despite the fact that we paid for all this upfront; (v) being charged extra for specific brands of alcohol that are readily available in all liquor stores (even though we were already paying for their best bar). Our coordinator really worked hard to advocate for us but sadly she was limited in what she could do for us. If we could have taken her to another venue I think our entire wedding experience would have been a whole lot better. For future brides considering this hotel, look elsewhere.
The Royal Sonesta in Cambridge MA was an amazing venue for a wedding. Everything about the location was perfect for what we wanted and the entire staff made our day so special for us. The catering department worked extremely hard to make sure everything was perfect; and as far as we could tell it was. They were wonderful when it came to bouncing ideas aroundt and they were honest as to what they thought would work and not work, but never once tried to push any idea on us that we didn't want. The entire staff was so welcoming. We recently returned to the Sonesta for another event and there were several staff members working that had worked at our wedding. Every one of them came up to us, remembered our names and chatted for a moment. They were truely genuine!
We chose to have our ceremony at the hotel because of the great view of the Charles River from the parkview room. Everything looked beautiful, they did a great job and my contact, Katie was wonderful. We had the reception at a different location and when we returned to our hotel room at the end of the night there was a bottle of chilled champagne and chocolate waiting for us. It was a great personal touch.
The Sonesta could not have been better! Our wedding coordinator, Trang, was amazing. There was no time, day or night, that she was unavailable. She was so happy, positive, and informative that I never once felt nervous about the wedding or felt like I was pestering her with questions. Not only that, but she completely followed through on everything, as did the hotel. From the food to the service to the guest rooms, our experience could not have been better! And yes, the food was amazing! If you use the Sonesta in Cambridge, ask for Trang. She made my year!
