Can I give 10 stars!?
Sugar Bowl was the perfect place for our wedding! We knew we wanted an outdoor location for the ceremony and the venue, and we are also avid skiers so the chairlift ride was on the top of our list as well. In addition to the perfect mountain setting, the staff at Sugar Bowl is out of this world. Meghon and her team were attentive to our every need without being overbearing. They supported every creative idea we had and made practical suggestions along the way - but they let us plan our own twist on everything, which is something that is very undervalued in many planners.
It was also great that Sugar Bowl was a one-stop show for us. They took care of the catering, the bar, the flowers, and the rehearsal dinner and after party spots. They handed out welcome bags to the hotel guests as they arrived, and were so attentive throughout the entire weekend. The entire staff has a great attitude and that really made all our guests feel comfortable.
Overall, our experience with Sugar Bowl was phenomenal and I wouldn't change a thing about it. Many guests told us that our wedding was the best and the most fun wedding that they have ever attended. You will not find a better vendor or service team anywhere in the Reno/Tahoe area!

Coordinator Meghon Shrewsbury goes above and beyond to provide excellent service, communicating all the way through the process. Though planning a wedding involves many details, the staff at Sugar Bowl made sure that every question was answered and handled all elements big and small with aplomb. A beautiful setting where many of your guests can stay on site and even ride a ski lift to the top of the mountain, Sugar Bowl offers a very unique and memorable wedding experience. Where some venues tend to nickle and dime you at every turn, Sugar Bowl was excellent in providing amenities such as heat lamps, parasols and other general decor for no extra charge. We would not hesitate to recommend this site to future couples!

My Husband and I had an amazing day. Sugar Bowl was a perfect place to make such amazing memories with family and friend that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Sugar Bowl brings a special touch to the wedding weekend. Having the hotel for only wedding guests makes it special; it is truly an exclusive get away weekend with the people you love. The chairlift was a very special touch to the occasion. Our guests really enjoyed it. The Sugar Bowl staff was incredible. I honestly cannot think there is a more attentive staff out there. They were incredible with every detail. The venue looked absolutely gorgeous and the food was delicious.
Everything with Sugar Bowl was fantastic. I could not have asked for a better place to get married. There is not one thing that I would have changed. Sugar Bowl exceeded our expectations. Thank you!

Words can't express how glad I am that we chose this venue. They were professional, organized, and so incredibly helpful. They took an otherwise stressful day and turned it into one of the most relaxing and fun experiences with my family and friends. Damien and I will be forever grateful.

John and I got married on June 22, 2013, at the Sugar Bowl Resort. Let me tell you... I've always dreamt of my wedding day, but then it came to real life! Everything was perfect; from the staff, the food, and most of all the wedding coordinator: Lisa and Meghon. The whole day went so smooth and perfect. The decor was beautiful, but the scenery was unbelievable. I would defiantly recommend Sugar Bowl Resort to any Bride that is looking for an extravagant wedding.

Best Wedding ever! People are still talking about it. I run into people that weren't even there and they are saying we heard it was amazing!

I’m still in awe at how magical our wedding was at the Sugarbowl Resort.
Let me start by saying we toured Sugarbowl during the winter, in the middle of ski season. We had seen pictures of what it looked like in summertime and it looked great, but we still didn’t know what to expect.
Even without seeing the venue in full bloom, we were sold on Sugarbowl for 1. The fact that they have a package that includes exclusive access to the resort from Friday until Sunday, 2. Rooms were on property, and 3. Meghon, the most amazing wedding coordinator ever.
The added bonuses that we found once we arraived were the ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS scenery and grounds. The resort is spectacular during the summer time; green, wild flowers, flowing creeks, Lake Mary, hiking trails. Just pure bliss. The exclusive access makes you feel like you’re at your own personal relaxation destination.
Most of our families/friends stayed up there for the weekend. Every day we all got to eat breakfast together and set out on hikes, or to the lake, or whatever event was planned for that day. It was incredible to get to spend such quality time with our friends & family before the wedding, and made it so we really got to enjoy the wedding night (without having to go table to table trying to spend time with everyone) because we had the chance to be with everyone all weekend.
I’m sure a lot of brides can relate to the need to be in control of all the details of your wedding. I was very hesitant to give up control to a wedding coordinator, but Meghon put my worries to ease very quickly. She is a pro. She has put on so many wedding at Sugarbowl, that she made me feel confident that she had everything under control from our first meeting. Everything ran very smoothly, and there were no surprises. Everything I needed to know was told to me well in advance and she answered all of the questions we had (even when we asked them multiple times). Her staff is very professional. Her colleague, Pat handled a lot of the reception and after party details and was equally as fantastic.
It’s a HUGE relief as a bride or groom to not have to worry about getting the ceremony started on time, setting up tables, flowers, etc., getting everyone in the right order, making sure the wine gets on the tables, getting everything cleaned up afterward, and so on… The coordinator staff handles all of those details, and makes it MUCH more enjoyable for the wedding party and family. I mean, the wedding is supposed to be a celebration not a chore right! And that’s how the staff at Sugarbowl makes sure it is, a spectacular celebration!
There are all sorts of activities to choose from. They really can cater to any and all types of weddings. There are SO many options and add-ons, chair lift rides to the top of the mountain for cocktail hour, lakeside dining for the rehearsal dinner, etc. I wish we could have done them all.
The reception food was delicious. The chef at Sugarbowl really knows how to please a crowd. Everyone raved about the appetizers and dinner!
There are so many things I can say about our stay and celebration at Sugarbowl, but I’d be writing all day. It’s a very special place and an incredible wedding destination.
It’s been 6 weeks since the wedding and our family and friends are still talking about how amazing the weekend and the venue were. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and we will always have an incredible memory of our wedding at Sugarbowl.

Meghon, Pat, Lisa, and all the Sugar Bowl wedding crew are amazing. They all went above and beyond any expectations I have of a wedding venue. They took all my projects and decorations and took care of it all so I didn't have to worry about it and I could just enjoy the days leading up to the wedding. The food is outstanding, we got lots of compliments on that. DO THE DISNEY CHAIR/COCKTAIL HOUR...SO WORTH IT. Everyone loved it, it was the highlight of the event.
The staff is so amazing and provide outstanding unforgettable service. They treat you like a VIP/celebrity status person! So attentive and helpful and approachable.
Meghon is also outstanding. She made herself available to me all the time and answered all of my questions promptly and thoroughly every time. She even joined my pinterest boards to look at my ideas/colors/overall theme...truly a dream wedding coordinator!
Meghon also did the flowers for the entire event as well as the rehearsal dinner. They were everything I wanted and envisioned. She worked with me after I had some flowers in her original "quote" that I didn't like 100% and changed them to be truly everything I wanted. She also respected my budget and desire to keep the costs down.
Got so many compliments on the wedding and all I could think and say back to people was, "it wasn't me, it was Sugar Bowl!!"

The BEST wedding venue ever if you want to spend a weekend with your guests. Lake Mary is a beautiful small lake, equipped with paddle boats, canoe, kayak. Entire day and Rehearsal Dinner here. The next day spent at the lake and then wedding and reception at the Sugar Bowl Lodge
Food, staff were great. The beautiful mountain location, topped off by ski lift ride to mountain top where there is a beautiful decked building to enjoy cocktails and take in the great scenery.
Staff was fabulous. Perfect!! Exactly what the bride and groom envisioned.

My daughter was married at Sugar Bowl Resort on June 15, and it was a magical day. We have always loved spending time in the Tahoe Mountains and knew it would be a lovely backdrop for this special event, but we had no idea just how special this day would be with the help of Meghan, their event planner, and all the Sugar Bowl staff. My daughter had very specific ideas of what she wanted for the ceremony, for the meal, for the décor; and the staff simply accommodated us with a smile! We invited our close friends and family to stay with us at the Lodge for a few nights before the big event. The staff there provided such a wonderful and relaxed atmosphere for our early morning hikes and late night chats in the lobby or out around the campfire. It was just like summer camp with all your favorite people. The wedding day was pure happiness. The staff at Sugar Bowl have a calm but professional attitude that puts everyone at ease and helps you just enjoy the day. Meghan knew just what my daughter envisioned for this day and took it upon herself to make it happen. I had such faith that everyone there was working to make her day amazing that I did not worry for a minute. We also took the chair lift to the top for Happy Hour which was a big hit with all our guests. The views were fabulous, and what a cool environment to start the party. The venue at Sugar Bowl is amazing, but I cannot say enough about the Sugar Bowl staff. They were all so friendly, caring and attentive. Words cannot express how thankful I am that we found Meghan and Sugar Bowl for my daughter's big day.

My husband and I were married at Sugar Bowl in June 2013, and it was beyond perfect. I would recommend this venue to anyone. Meghon, the coordinator, is FANTASTIC! She is so responsive to emails and phone calls and really works around the client to make sure everything is perfect. I didn't have a single worry the day-of because I knew that Meghon and her staff would take care of everything. Her assistant, Pat, was a huge help as well. He wasn't a part of the planning process, but was there to help for the actual event. We had a few last-minute requests (like during cocktail hour!) and he made it happen. The hotel staff is also incredible. Nile and Risa really stood out to both us and all of our guests staying at the hotel. They were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was happy and enjoying themselves.
The venue itself is incredible. We were married on the lawn, took the chairlift for cocktail hour, and had the reception on the deck. It was such a unique experience with the chair lift and all of our guests loved it. The chef created a custom menu for us and were allowed to provide recipes that were used for the dinner, which was delicious! We got so many comments that it was the best wedding people had ever been to... and none of it would have happened without all of the great Sugar Bowl staff.
We had a lot of out-of-town family that stayed at the hotel starting on the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding, so it was like a long vacation and so relaxing. It was only our friends and family at the hotel, so we played games and had s'mores and drinks every night and could be as loud as we wanted without worrying about disturbing other guests.
I wouldn't change a single thing about our wedding and would recommend Meghon and Sugar Bowl to any couple looking for a beautiful and fun wedding venue!

This was, without a doubt, the best decision we ever made. We picked Sugar Bowl for our wedding venue before even really seeing it. When we were emailing venues we continuously received rude responses about our short(10 month) timeline or our budget. When we emailed Meghon(the onsite wedding coordinator) at Sugar Bowl she responded with an email telling us that no matter where we chose to have our wedding, we had plenty of time to plan the perfect wedding...this was our first clue that the customer service at Sugar Bowl was amazing. This was again reaffirmed when we did the tasting...the food was incredible, huge portions, and we had a blast! We were able to bring our mothers and MOH to the tasting and it ended up being one of our best memories.
The next 10 months was filled with hundreds of back and forth emails and Meghon always sent back helpful and knowledgeable responses. Having never been closely involved in the wedding planning process before, I was extremely nervous as to how it would all come together. I had also opted to have Meghon be my florist and had only given her a few photos as guidelines and a few types of flowers I liked...I had no idea what to expect until we arrived for our wedding weekend.
When we pulled up on the Thursday before our wedding the place was more beautiful than we could have imagined(we had only seen it in the winter). The custom wedding signs and reserved "bride and groom" parking were a wonderful touch. The staff for the entire weekend was incredible. They lit the bonfire for us every evening and accommodated each and every guest. They even let you order sandwiches for the next day as there is no restaurant open on site...I HIGHLY recommend doing so. They were delicious! The whole weekend worked like a well oiled machine.
The day of the wedding was the first time I had seen any of the flowers and bouquets...I was blown away! They far exceeded my expectations and every time I see my wedding photos I am thrilled at how perfect the flowers were...Meghon has a true talent for flowers!!
And I have to say that the entire wedding continued like this. Every last detail was thought of...things I hadn't even anticipated like parasols for the guests to use for the sunny hours. Meghon even gifted us a beautiful book about Sugar Bowl to use as a guestbook when ours tragically didn't arrive. We also had our cocktail hour at the top of the Disney Ski Lift...this was one of the best parts. Our guests LOVED the beautiful views and it gave no one a chance to be bored while we were off taking pictures. The food was extraordinary and they had graciously accommodated my food allergies and even made a few custom dishes for the wedding at no additional charge. Meghon was there the entire time keeping everything moving along to schedule and flowing perfectly. I honestly didn't have to worry about a single thing the entire night...I don't hear this from many brides.
On our morning of leaving it was an even bigger shock to find that our total for the weekend was slightly lower than anticipated...what a pleasant surprise to have stayed BELOW our budget!
I can't thank Sugar Bowl enough for all their hard work, wonderful staff, and for making our wedding everything we wanted and more. Meghon eliminated soooo much "wedding stress" and made our weekend so special.

We got married at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on 10/6/12. We loved the rustic, historic feel. We immediately clicked with Meghon, the wedding event coordinator. She is genuine, friendly & put us right at ease.
Meghon and Sugar Bowl were extremely flexible and allowed us to be creative - my family is from Afghanistan and we have traditional desserts and teas that should be served at weddings, but most places don't let you bring in outside food - not so at Sugar Bowl - Meghon and the Sugar Bowl staff were more than happy to accommodate this special request. We also had some traditional ceremonies that were a bit unusual, but Meghon found a way to weave them into our day seamlessly - my family was so honored, impressed, and happy that we were able to incorporate all the traditions.
The staff also set up all of my handmade decorations in such a way that was more beautiful than I could have imagined & returned everything in perfect condition! I didn't have to worry or bother any family or friends with these details. Meghon also did all the flowers-I had no idea what I wanted & she still produced incredible work that was exactly what I wanted! And she did it all herself, on top of coordinating the entire weekend, so I would highly recommend anyone to utilize her for the flower services.
Dinner was fantastic! Our friend, who is a professional chef at a gourmet restaurant, said it was the best food he ever had at a wedding! We also used the basement of the ski lodge as a kids room, with a kid friendly buffet, coloring, games and movies. All the parents raved about this! After all the kiddos went to bed, the staff quickly transformed the room into the after-party room & the festivities continued into the night! And then, to top the night off, when my husband and I finally returned to our room, we came back to find a chilled bottle of champagne and 2 slices of our cake, which we were wicked excited about since we never had a chance to eat any (besides the pieces we shoved in each others mouths). It really was the icing on the cake, literally (sorry for the cheesy pun!)
Mike with the Sugar Bowl lodging and accommodations staff was also extremely helpful throughout the whole process, making sure that all our guests staying at the hotel and at on-site property rentals were taken care of. We had a few minor snafus along the way for a variety of reasons (comes with the territory with a guest list that large), but Mike made fixing them a priority and it always resulted in a positive outcome - he really worked hard for us the entire time!
Finally, another highlight was the delicious Sunday Brunch (some people even said it was the best bacon they've ever had!). It was so nice to say goodbye to everyone & not have to worry about pulling quiches out of the oven or doing dishes. We just relaxed & enjoyed everyone’s company for as long as we could.
Everyone said that our wedding couldn't have been at a more beautiful location or be more relaxed. Meghon kept the night flowing without a hitch, keeping us on track for all the details of the wedding (speeches, dances, cake cutting, bouquet tosses, etc.). She really went above & beyond to make our day stress-free & more perfect than we could have imagined! All this was affordable, with no sacrifice of elegance, quality, or service-no extra fees or hidden charges either! We are so happy to have had such an amazing weekend, all thanks to Meghon & her staff.

My goodness our wedding was the most BEAUTIFUL wedding I have ever seen!!! The wedding coordinator was AMAZING as well as the entire Sugar Bowl staff. From start to finish, everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations in every possible way. The venue is ideal, as we had everything to ourselves-no outsiders to be seen!!! The food was incredible and the chef also went above and beyond-we couldn't have had a more perfect and memorable day!!! I would absolutely recommend this venue to anyone and everyone.

I would highly recommend sugar bowl for a wedding venue. The staff was on top of everything. The wedding coordinator helped with so much that she was almost more of a wedding planner. The food was incredible! I dont have 1 bad thing to say about this venue!

My wedding at Sugar Bowl Resort was more than I imagined it could be.
Meghon, the wedding coordinator, made everything so easy! Everything flowed magically! It was like a wizard had a wand & waved it over the entire day so there were magical fairies floating around to make all flow perfectly. My husband & I didn't have to worry about telling the DJ to be here or tell guests to go there as Meghon coordinated everything wonderfully! =)
The staff were all so friendly and attentive! There were a ton of staff to help! Everyone loved the bartender!!
One thing to note is there is no elevator so for elderly or handicapped, this is not be the place for them.
We handed over all our wedding supplies, had a short meeting to touch base (& really nailed out all the details over the months via phone calls, emails & a form Meghon had me fill out, weeks before) =) & Sugar Bowl carried it all out exactly as we wanted everything!
Sugar Bowl also already has such great supplies that come with the venue that make it truly so special. The venue is so spectacular that it doesn't require much decor! We got married at Lake Mary & had the reception at The Village Lodge. You absolutely MUST check it out!!!
I was worried that maybe the tables wouldn't be presented the way I wanted or the guest book or the escort cards. Worries that are common to the every day bride but they presented everything so freaking beautifully! Way better than I pictured it!!!
Meghon had GREAT suggestions to make the reception pop even more! Such as lanterns over the dance floor & welcome bags for our guests!
And for all the hard work, beauty, attentiveness, & professionalism that Sugar Bowl offers, one would assume it would cost an arm & a leg but it is truly reasonable!!!!!
I wish I could do it all over again so I could pay more attention to all the beautiful word they did but that is what video & pictures is for!
Thank you Meghon & Sugar Bowl for the best wedding anyone could ever have. Meghon & Sugar Bowl are a godsend!

Sugar Bowl (lake mary site) was the best choice for our wedding. It was personal with the most gorgeous views and perfect weather! Meghon was so wonderful to work with, taking our requests and questions serious like she was planning for her own wedding! I appreciated everything she did for us including not only venue, but flowers, lighting, arch, tables and linens, bar, etc. What an awesome experience! Thank you Sugar Bowl!

Short version: Sugar Bowl is awesome and a great place to have a wedding!
We recently had a small wedding (70 guests) at the Village Lodge at Sugar Bowl, and it was a blast! Many people told us it was the best wedding they've been too! Much of the credit goes to the great people at Sugar Bowl, especially the wedding coordinator Meghon, who went to great lengths to take care of us and was delightful to work with.
The lodge is secluded and private (a bit like an upscale summer camp). I really loved that the ceremony, reception, and lodging were all in the same place. It was so nice to be able to walk up two flights of stairs and be in my room. The whole place has a magical atmosphere - the historic lodge, the huge deck, the beautiful party lights, the mountains, and the babbling creek. We took photos at the Rainbow Bridge overlook, which has amazing views of Donner Lake.
We really liked that Sugar Bowl took care of many of our wedding needs and saved us from having to find additional vendors. We rented the whole lodge for the wedding weekend and filled it exclusively with our guests. It is difficult to describe how amazing it is to see someone down the hotel hallway and automatically know them. We were able to personalize everything! Meghon took all our instructions and ideas and made them look way better than we had imagined. She has a good eye and loves flowers! As for dinner, the food was great and the servers were all very good. And we loved the bar. By the end of the weekend, I think everyone was friends with the bartender.
The weather was beautiful in early July. It was plenty warm (even hot!) and dancing under the stars was amazing! We hosted bagged lunches for everyone, so no one needed to leave during the day. Instead they got to enjoy the mountains by hiking, biking or boating (Sugar Bowl provided loaner mountain bikes and water toys!). We also had a campfire both nights with s'mores. Because our ceremony and reception were held outdoors, we did have to deal with a few mosquitoes, but fortunately Sugar Bowl provided a basket of mosquito repellant and sunscreen for the guests to use and has some fancy propane traps.
We felt Sugar Bowl was a great value. For the price of a very modest wedding in Los Angeles, we got to feel pampered at Sugar Bowl. We have no regrets at all that we got married at Sugar Bowl, even though most of our guests had to travel more than 100 miles.
p.s. We hosted a welcome BBQ (instead of a rehearsal dinner) for all our guests at Sugar Bowl on the Friday before the wedding. The Sugar Bowl burgers were great! The potato salad also got rave reviews from the guests.

Venue Fee (includes wedding coordinator Meghon and several other ceremony/reception fixin's): $3000
Extra Cocktail Hour atop Mount Disney Lift (highly recommended, even the guests "afraid of heights" LOVED the experience): $2000-3000 (not including food/alcohol), only bottled beer and wine (no keg) available
Ceremony/Reception outside !!! (with indoor contingency plan if necessary)
From the first time meeting Meghon nine months before our wedding, to hugging her goodbye at the end of our wedding weekend extravaganza, my new husband (!) and I felt Meghon was professional, kind, thoughtful, gracious, and endlessly helpful.
Neither my husband nor myself are particularly detail-oriented or knowledgeable about the ins and outs of wedding planning. Meghon took complete care of the cake and flower details by coordinating with vendors in Truckee. We simply researched the general information we wanted: i.e. type of flowers, cake design. With her extensive experience (she coordinates 16 weddings per summer! for the last several years!) she will always give you appropriate advice and recommendations to your questions and to fill in the gaps of your knowledge (i.e. who gets a corsage? how much cake is needed for your wedding guests? etc.)
Additionally, we had a mishap with our ceremony officiant just two weeks before the wedding! We mentioned this to Meghon and she immediately recommended a nearby and affordable officiant to save the day. Meghon had the perfect sense for us as a couple...our new officiant (Viviane) matched our personalities perfectly and the ceremony was beautiful!
Meghon consistently worked to get us the best deals, and even went so far as to organize a golf outing for my husband's Tahoe bachelor party. She is honest and straight-forward about any and all wedding expenditures, no hidden fees or unexpected surprises (and if you're confused about a price/expense, just ask and she will explain thoroughly!).
The complementary (after submitting venue deposit) wine and food tasting at Sugar Bowl proper is a luxurious and delicious experience (to be shared with a handful of close friends and/or family...4 additional guests) that enables a couple to get a true sense for what their guests will experience during cocktail hour appetizers and the reception. The chef is amazing!
During the week leading up to the wedding, we were quite anxious (understandably as we didn't know what to expect!) about everything from ceremony music to centerpiece set-up. In just 30 minutes of meeting in person with Meghon, all our anxiety was put to rest, she knows exactly how to handle all situations! The ceremony/cocktail hour/reception/bonfire after party went off without a hitch...I was unaware of even one scheduling, food, alcohol, etc. "issue"...Meghon and her team handled every detail calmly, kindly, perfectly.
If it weren't such a generally exhausting process, Dan and I would get married again and again at Sugar Bowl!
We love you Sugar Bowl!
Dan and Rachel
