We had a truly amazing experience working with David McLaughlin and the rest of the staff at Summit Manor, both during the planning process and on our wedding day. David was the most accommodating event planner, answering questions in any format at any time. He was always courteous and respectful when we spoke, and he was always willing to offer suggestions if we didn't know quite what to do or who to talk to. He was always willing to meet with us and did several walk-throughs with us as we were working out decor details and the flow of the day. On our wedding day, David did a great job of keeping everything on track and handling issues as they came up. He made sure to keep us in the loop throughout the day, but for the most part he was rather invisible, which we liked. We knew he was keeping an eye on things without disturbing our guests. His staff shared his courteous, discrete manner.
As a venue, Summit Manor was absolutely beautiful! The historic home fit our vintage theme beautifully. It was great that we were able to have our ceremony and reception in the same place. We didn't have to worry about losing someone traveling between the two, since all they had to do was walk inside.
The room that was made available to the bride and bridesmaids was absolutely wonderful. There was enough space for everyone to get dressed without feeling like they were on top of each other. There was even a bathroom attached! The guys had to come dressed, but they were able to leave their jackets and other items in the room as well. We were able to close the doors to the room to keep guests out.
For guest accommodations, we loved how the guests were able to roam around the house - this allowed them to choose a place that was right for them to relax and enjoy the evening. From the speakeasy, to the main floor, to the upper floor, to the front porch, there was a place for everyone. There were several quiet spaces away from the party where people could actually carry on conversations, and there was also plenty of space for those who did want to party. We can't wait to see the photos!
Not only was Summit beautiful, it was affordable too! All of the basic things we needed (tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware, flatware, glassware, etc) were included in the rental fee, so we didn't have to bring anything in from outside. We could have even used their centerpieces for that price as well, but we opted to bring in our own. The food was reasonably priced, and tasted like it was twice as much per plate as it actually was!
Overall, I would say that if you are looking for an elegant yet laid back feel, are shooting for a vintage theme, and are looking to create great memories for you and your guests, Summit Manor is the perfect venue for you!

We started our search for a wedding location by putting together a wish list with our top three priorities in a venue:
1. A location that could host both the ceremony and the reception.
2. A location that had an outdoor option for the ceremony (with an easily accessible indoor backup option).
3. A location that wouldn’t require much (in any) decoration in order to make it “wedding ready.”
We set up tours within our search area and while we found a couple locations we thought we could make work we weren’t really sold on any of them. That is until we visited The Summit Manor. After our tour and meeting with David we walked away agreeing that we had found our perfect location.
Not only did The Summit Manor give us all three of our priorities, it also came with the ease of what I’ll call “all-inclusive” pricing. Other venues seemed to have basic packages where you’d obviously want to upgrade some things (chair covers, chandeliers, cake cutting services, etc) and then they would show you what it would cost on top of their standard fee in order to make this happen. The Summit Manor went out of their way to prove to us that they weren’t there to add on fees and that the price we were shown was the price we would pay, and in the end they were true to their word.
The on-site coordinator / planner (David) was great (and of course at no extra charge!). He made himself completely accessible for any questions and concerns that we had even before we had officially signed our contract. His knowledge and experience of the wedding process constantly reassured us that we had made the right choice.
Then came the day of the wedding… From the moment we arrived, to the end the night, the staff worked wonders behind the scenes making sure everything went smoothly and according to plan. Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time and we still are getting rave reviews on the wedding and venue a month later.
I can’t recommend The Summit Manor enough. It truly was our prefect venue.

David and the staff were simply the best. I dont know where to start. David was so flexible and willing to work with us on everything. We were able to getting ready at Summit manor without having to pay extra which was huge. The food was great and people were able to eat as much as they wanted David even had suggestions for helping keep the little kids occupied and not running crazy. he is so knowledge and can tell he has been doing this for many years. The place is beautiful which made our pictures even better. My husband and i really liked that there were many rooms for people to be so everyone was able to mingle and visit. Im so happy we were able to have our wedding at summit manor and david helped to make it more then we could have imagined! Thank you!!!

The venue and the staff are absolutely AMAZING!!! They took care of everything and made everyone feel so at home. The food was super delicious, probably the best garlic mashed potatoes I have ever had! I can't even begin to describe how awesome this venue is and the staff truly helped to make my wedding day a perfect day!!

Summit Manor was fabulous. We had a smaller wedding with about 70 guests the first weekend in July. David took care of everything for us! He was a wonderful resource before the wedding as we debated timing and searched for vendors. On the day of, he made sure everything went flawlessly. From the cake cutting to the toasts, everything was perfect! I was able to send a box of decorations over the day before, and David made sure everything was set up when we arrived. He made himself available to everyone who had questions, including my mother. Whenever we contacted him, he would always respond quickly, with all of the information we needed. I would highly recommend Summit Manor. The mansion is gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the peace-of-mind David offered was invaluable. Perfect!

The venue was exactly what we were looking,a mansion with old fashioned charm on Summit Avenue. The food was delicious and the wait staff was top notch. Our on site contact David was very professional and took great care of us and all the details. We were able to enjoy the day with out any worries. I highly recommend this venue! A++

Even though I put $5001-$10,000 in the cost of service, this included catering, set-up, and everything you could possibly need for the day of. For about 100 people, this ended up being just about $5500. You can make it as centralized as you want, with the venue doing the cake, flowers and figuring out the music, or you can swap vendors for these services as you would like. David is such a gem with which to work, and made this process genuinely FUN and relaxing. Whatever advice he gives, do it. He knows what he's doing and is always right, I swear. We followed his advice down to having the top of our wedding cake for breakfast the next morning, and loved every idea and suggestion he made before that.

We recently had our ceremony and reception at the Summit Manor House. It was a marvelous event. During our first meeting with David McLaughlin, the coordinator, he said his goal was to have us feel like guests at our own wedding. I will say he achieved that goal. The planning for the ceremony and reception were very easy, as David responded quickly to each email and call. He is very organized and had all the answers. I love the low-stress planning as Summit manor takes care of all linen, tables and seasonal flowers. He also was very flexible with some unique requests I had for our reception. I was initially worried about not being able to taste the food before the reception. David assured me the food was good. I have to say the food was outstanding. All of our guests were impressed with the food and many people went back for seconds. The Buttercream cake was great. David was there the day of the ceremony and reception and coordinated everything well. I highly recommend The Summit Manor for special events. It is a classic location for an elegant event.

We had our wedding reception at Summit Manor last October and couldn't be happier!! David, the manager of Summit Manor, gave us our initial tour, let us take another tour with our parents, and talked to us throughout our engagement to help us work out the details of the big day. He even took the lead on booking our bartender so we didn't have to worry about it. David was there on the wedding day to help guests, keep the staff organized, and keep everything going at a good pace from dinner, to the speeches, to the first dances. Having a wedding reception in a historic house instead of some big open space with no character is definitely something you won't forget and neither will your guests! We absolutely loved having our wedding here and would do it again in a heart beat.
Also included in the fee- a beautiful flower arrangement on every table!!

We had our wedding reception at Summit Manor Reception House. We were reminded before the event that we were guests and not hosts. That is truly how we felt. Everything was taken care of for us so we truly could enjoy the evening. The tables on all floors were decorated with beautiful flowers, the selection of menu choices were immense, and the food we selected was amazing. The location was cozy and felt like home. The ability for guests to spread out in many areas was wonderful.

My husband and I recently used Summit Manor Reception House for our wedding reception. It was wonderful!!! The staff was friendly, helpful and professional! They did a great job keeping the events of the night flowing and moving along and we didn't have to worry about a thing! Also, the food was delicious and they had a great variety of menus to choose from. Most of all, the owner, David, was SO accommodating, flexible and helpful!!! We had several special requests and he helped us with every one of them. Also, he was very helpful in planning the entire evening and helping our vision of the evening come true!! This is a beautiful place to have a wedding reception or any special occasion. It was perfect because people could be and do whatever they wanted throughout the evening. They could be outside or on the front porch talking and enjoying the beautiful weather, in the main room dancing, upstairs playing games or downstairs at the bar enjoying a drink! Absolutely EVERYONE enjoyed themselves!! Also, the cost is VERY affordable! There are several perks like they don't charge you to cut and serve the cake, you can bring in your own alcohol and they provide all the center pieces. Plus, you don't need to decorate because it is already such a beautiful setting. I would HIGHLY recommend using Summit Manor reception house!

Summit Manor was a beautiful, unique place for our wedding reception. We researched and called a long list of reception sites in the Twin Cities area, as well as visited a handful, and nothing compared to Summit Manor Reception House. Their service was very personable. So much was included in the package, they really took care of us. I know we saved a lot of time, stress, and money having the wedding reception of our dreams here.

This house has everything- vintage charm, beautiful grounds, great food and an exceptional staff- all at a reasonable price. It was such a pleasure working with David, who was so easy to work with and knew how to create a stress-free environment for everyone. He really went above and beyond when the original DJ my fiance and I booked essentially "disappeared"- David quickly located a great replacement for us within a day. Our guests were completely taken care of during the wedding and really seemed to enjoy the many locations throughout the house and yard.
We would highly recommend the manor to anyone looking for a classy place with true character!

We had both our wedding ceremony and reception there (June 9th, 2012) and it was so beautiful. David McLaughlin is in charge of everything at the house and he was wonderful. He had the answers to all our questions, he made us feel at ease and everything went so smoothly. David and the staff made us feel like it was our home for the day. I would definitly recomend that everyone should have their wedding there. In anything we needed David was there to help us. I really appreciated that he took care of our wedding like it was his own... like we were family. Thanks David.

Summit Manor was amazing. Gorgeous location, and beautiful house and lawn. No set up or tear down to worry about, and no need to decorate because the house is so pretty on the inside. Definitely recommend!

What a wonderful day! David and his staff staff made it surprisingly easy to have a wedding. Even my brother, who was skeptical about having people stand for the ceremony, was impressed. Reid and I felt it was the perfect venue for us...elegant yet relaxed. I loved the low key approach to planning and really felt I could trust you, David, to make sure everything ran smoothly. I was a project manager once and understand all the work involved with having an event come out as expected let alone better than expected. We have even talked of holding some sort of party---really any excuse would work--to enjoy your hospitality again. We tried to select pictures that showed off the manor. I hope you and your staff enjoy them! Thanks again! Cheryl

It has been 3 months since our wedding ceremony and reception at Summit Manor and our friends and family still mention what a fantastic and unique location we had.
They not only bring it up to us, but to other people they talk to. Our guests talk about the grandeur of the home and the polite, professional staff. They also talked about how the layout worked so well for mingling, dancing or enjoying quiet conversation.
In looking back, my husband and I appreciated how low stress it was working with David. He is very professional and thoughtful in all aspects of planning. Friendly and courteous, he made himself available for calls or visits to Summit Manor. He genuinely treated us as a unique couple - interested in who we were and how we wanted our big day to be. Afterwards, he followed up with us to congratulate us again - something no other vendor has done.
I cannot say enough about David and the rest of the staff at Summit Manor! Thank you!!
