Rachel Remy was an absolute joy to work with. She was professional and coordinated. She had everything together and answers for every small question I had. We worked collaboratively to plan a cohesive, fun, wedding that went off without a hitch. She was even able to arrange getting Buckeye Donuts for a late night snack.
The little extras the Blackwell provides to the bride and groom are just fabulous as well. The complimentary presidential suite (which has 2 bathrooms!), bride and groom strawberries, and champagne are just to name a few. They treated me like a princess.
I loved my reception at the Blackwell and would highly recommend this venue to future brides. Rachel was a great person to work with during the entire process and was extremely responsive to calls and emails whenever we had questions. The personal touches during the entire weekend really made the event special. As the bride and groom we were able to stay in the presidential suite free of charge. We had a tray of chocolate covered strawberries, a cheese plate and a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the room after the event. The staff boxed up two slices of wedding cake and had those waiting for us in the room so we could actually enjoy this after everything was over, etc. The entire event ran smoothly and many of our guests raved about what a great time they had at the reception. Additionally, the food was great and the bar service was top notch!
The wedding coordinator, Rachel, was extremely responsive to all my and my families emails and questions throughout the entire process. We had never ending questions and she responded to all of them in a timely manner.
There were a lot of small, personal touches that were very helpful and nice. For example, the Presidential Suite is complimentary the night of the wedding, as long as it is available. This was such a wonderful room! We also reserved it for Friday night so it allowed me a place to stay the night before but then also gave the ladies a place to get ready the day of the wedding. That worked really well.
Also, as the ceremony was about to begin, Blackwell staff took the box of envelopes and gifts up to the suite for us so that they weren't sitting out unwatched and then it was also waiting in our room for us. It's nice that none of my family had to worry about doing that.
The staff also left my new hubby and I a small plate of cheese, chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of Champagne, and a note of congratulations in our suite the night of our wedding. What a nice touch to end the evening!
We also loved that we were able to change the location of our ceremony from inside the ballroom to outside underneath their tailgating tent less than 48 hours before our wedding. We saw that the weather was going to be gorgeous and asked the coordinator if we could move the ceremony outside and it was no problem! She said they just need at least 24 hours notice. Some other venues we had interviewed needed a one week notice to change from outside to inside, so our last minute change being accommodated was great!
The service at the wedding was fantastic and the food was great! We had no complaints on any part of the planning process or the execution of our wedding day. The only thing that wasn't quite as planned was that we wanted the sides of the tent to be completely rolled up and they weren't. They were just tied open, but it wasn't a big a deal. Our day couldn't have been more perfect!
The Blackwell made our wedding day perfect and hassle free!!

I am the mother of the bride and my daughter and I began looking at venues 18 months out. We visited several venues and for many specific reasons we chose the Blackwell.
Firstly, we had a unique dynamic with our wedding in that the grooms family is located in Venezuela and many of our guests would be coming in from various countries. That created a logistics nightmare because we needed to get our guests from the airport to the venue. The Blackwell is very accommodating to your personal needs. They ran a shuttle service for us and it worked out beautifully.
Everything, and I mean every minute detail, was executed perfectly. Rachel Remy of the Blackwell is both professional and creative and fun to work with. We had a lot of extra details to attend to and Rachel saw to it that not one thing was out of place or missed.
We had our rehearsal dinner at the Blackwell, firstly because of logistics, it kept our guests at the same place they would be staying, but we had an amazing space with beautiful views, delicious buffet and excellent wait staff.
Our guests stayed at the Blackwell and the service, selection of rooms and rooms were all top notch.
Our reception was at the Blackwell and we were able to utilize the plaza level lounge area for our cocktail hour even using the baby grand piano for a jazz pianist to entertain our guests. We used both indoor and outdoor spaces. The bar was situated so that our out of town guests could get a clear view of the "OSU Horseshoe" which was fun for out of towners.
The cocktail hour appetizers were executed beautifully and they were delicious. The staff, again, very professional and courteous. I might add that the bride eats gluten free and they made sure she had gluten free options.
The reception itself was beautiful. I dont need to say more, each and every detail was attended to and the wedding planner, Rachel, was on site making sure everything ran smoothly. I might add that the Blackwell was the only venue we visited that would have the planner on site the night of the event. That is huge when it comes to peace of mind.
Our cake was gorgeous, we met with the baker and presented a picture and it looked exactly like our vision and was delicious.
We had a wonderfully done tasting and it was hard to choose, they have many delicious options that are presented lovely.
The meal we chose was amazing and our guests raved about the food.
Rachel had many great ideas as to placement of things and our reception was set up just perfectly.
We also had our breakfast buffet for the wedding party the next morning at the Blackwell and again, it was delicious food and a lovely presentation with courteous and professional wait staff.
I have NOTHING but great things to say about the Blackwell and I would not have even thought of it had it not been for a fellow coworker at OSUMC that suggested it. It's kind of a hidden diamond as part of the OSU campus. They provide valet parking and for out of town guests it was fun for them to see the OSU area/campus. The Blackwell sits on the edge of campus, Lane Avenue, so it's a beautiful area with many photography options.
The Blackwell is a 5 star hotel, however, if they werent already...they would still be getting my 5 stars. They made our wedding just super fabulous.
I cannot say enough about The Blackwell. From the very beginning, contact with The Blackwell was very prompt and professional. It was always very effortless to have all my questions or concerns addressed. When we first signed the contract with The Blackwell, Blair was the coordinator. A few months before the wedding, Rachel, Blair’s previous assistant, took over as the main coordinator as Blair moved on to a different venue. The transition was seamless. We had a very nice and delicious tasting with the chef there to explain the food and answer any questions while Rachel went through a rundown of our day. Before meeting with Rachel, my ideas were very scattered in my head but as she asked questions, she helped me organize and develop what I truly wanted relieving a lot of stress. The day of, everything was perfect! I had no worries as The Blackwell handles all deliveries, set up, and timing issues. Everything was perfect! The food was amazing, all my décor was exactly where I imagined it, and we had a nacho cheese fountain for a late night snack. We received so many compliments! Everything was perfect!
From the first time I walked into the Blackwell to check out the venue for our daughter's wedding I knew it was a special place. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting and accommodations for our guests. The service throughout the planning months leading up to the wedding was excellent. We were amazed and extremely satisfied with the prompt responses from the wedding planner, her ability to understand what we wanted for the entire evening, the hotel accommodations and staff in helping our guests reserve rooms, the discount they provided our guests,and the upgrade for the parents of the bride and groom. The food was absolutely over the top delicious and we received many compliments from our guests about it and the service overall. The staff throughout the evening and weekend was very attentive and went out of their way to serve us. The venue itself is gorgeous and they only do one wedding per night so that means we had the entire 2nd floor reception area for our party. This made it so much more intimate and personal.
The guest rooms/accommodations were fabulous and high end and very reasonable for Columbus with the discount they provide. Once again out guests commented on how wonderful everything was.
Our daughter and son in law told us it was everything they dreamed of for their wedding and we couldn't have been happier with everything. We wish we could do it again! We highly recommend the Blackwell for weddings!
My husband and I chose The Blackwell for our wedding because of the location to downtown and the campus area, which we knew our guests would find fun and convenient. The venue itself is beautiful and the staff worked with us on every single detail to bring our vision to life. We heard from so many people that our wedding was one of the most beautiful they'd ever been to! We took pride in that after all the planning and dedication of the Blackwell staff. They were so professional and we never worried about a thing!
My wedding was held on September 2, 2012 at The Blackwell. It was amazing! From the moment we visited we knew this was the venue for us. There was a change in coordinators halfway through our planning but that did not change the level of service received. When it came down to the wedding day I did not have to worry about a thing! The Blackwell staff set everything up as I had imagined as if they were in my heads. The food was outstanding and my guests are still talking about it! The Blackwell doesn't charge you for every little detail trying to squeeze all of your money. The former coordinator Blaire and new coordinator Rachel made me feel like my wedding was most important on their agenda. I didn't feel like just another client.
I highly recommend this venue. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say!
The Blackwell was an incredible place for our reception. Rachel and Blaire did a fantastic job of doing everything we had envisioned down to the last detail! All of our guests were so very impressed by the service of the staff and the overall feel of the Blackwell!

The Blackwell was perfect for us since we both met at Ohio State. The service was incredible, the food beyond amazing, and Blaire and Rachel (who were included in the price of booking) were not only amazing to work with, but in my mind were included wedding planners! They were always fast to the reply, inputted great ideas, and most importantly made the day run as smooth as can be! Special touches were added everywhere- from sending up strawberry's and champagne to our room at night to including thanksgiving, christmas, and valentines day cards! They had an event 6 months before our wedding that was essentially a mock wedding for all couples having a wedding that year. It was a great way to taste their delicious food, see the room laid out like a wedding, and get some great ideas. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!
My husband and I were married last month and couldn’t rave more about our experience with The Blackwell in Columbus, Ohio. We looked at two locations for our wedding reception, The Blackwell was our second appointment one day, to be followed by two more. Once we met with Blaire at The Blackwell, we canceled our other appointments! She was amazing, couldn’t have been better. She was so comforting and welcoming to us and our families. She had the most amazing ideas, was accommodating, easy to get a hold of, had an amazing attitude and so so professional! Blaire even worked with my Maid of Honor in planning our stay for my bachelorette party. In addition to our service, The Blackwell itself was beautiful. There is so much room and the area is perfect for accommodating hors d'oeuvres/cocktail hour, outdoor area for guests to mingle and the ballroom was spacious and accommodating to our 250ish guests. The food was unbelievable. We had so many compliments on our dinner, they managed to cook about 100 steaks perfectly! We had many compliments on the rooms too, our guests couldn’t have been happier. We’ve not heard ONE negative thing about The Blackwell, they did an amazing job. Blaire Blechinger is WONDERFUL.
The Blackwell Inn fulfilled every request and vision I had for a winter wedding reception. The wedding coordinator, Blaire Blechinger went above and beyond my expectations and attended to every need and more. Every detail was taken care of from the beginning and she made the entire process so stress-free. The food was fantastic, the decor was beautiful, the staff/set up/clean up was exceptional, the price was more than reasonable, and the service overall was superb!
We held our reception at The Blackwell last month and everything couldn't have gone better! The facility itself is beautiful and offers so many extras for free that we just wouldn't have gotten from anywhere else. They also handled all of the catering and made our wedding cake and everything was delicious! I had a lot of interactions with Blaire (the coordinator there) over the many months of planning and she was fanastic. Everything I dreamed up she made happen and it didn't matter how many questions I had she always had time for me. She even handled all of the organizing of my vendors. I just had to give her my vendors and she made sure they knew when to be where on the day of. My husband and I were also given the presidential suite the night of the wedding for free as part of the package. Before the reception we went back to the suite to freshen up and Blaire had all of our cocktail hour food and a selection of bar items waiting for us to enjoy as a "pre-party". She was onsight during the wedding to make sure things went smoothly, handled every last minute change/addition without batting and eye, and if anything went wrong I never knew about it! After the wedding Blaire even had two full meals and two pieces of wedding cake with a bottle of champagne waiting for us just in case we didn't have time to enjoy it. The only thing I would change is to have my ceremony there as well because then it would have been that much more stress-free with Blaire and The Blackwell handling that too!
This venue looked like a $30,000 reception for a third of the cost. I would recommend to anyone!
My husband and I met at OSU, he proposed on the Oval. It was a perfect fit that the Bwell was located right on OSU’s campus and we had our bridal photos with the stadium as the backdrop and Brutus even came to our reception and danced with your guests!!! The wedding coordinator was amazing, she walked us through each step of the planning process to be sure to not miss anything on our special day! We even had a large room block so guests could "take the elevator home"!!! I could not have asked for a better venue! Go Bucks!
Our wedding reception could not have been more spectacular! The Blackwell helped with every detail, and guided us through the planning process. We had an autumn theme, and Chef incorporated that theme in our dinner, the colors, flavors, everything were amazing!! We even had a signature cocktail that was seasonally inspired, which all our guests raved about. These special touches made our reception unique to my husband and I and also made for a very memorable experience! The Blackwell, and especially their coordinator, Blaire, made us feel that our wedding was as special to them as it was to us!!! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!!
This place is truly a gem in Columbus when it comes to wedding venues. I’m not sure if it’s their primary source of business when it comes to events, but it should be! When I was first looking for venues, I checked out almost every venue I could find that fit our group of guests. Literally. I tried to nix the venues that would nickel and dime you for everything, those with coordinators that were not responsive, and places that were just plain overpriced. As I narrowed my choices down, I searched the knot and posted for reviews of various locations, and no one had much to say about the Blackwell other than that they’d eaten there and it was pretty. I met with Blaire, the coordinator there, and after a couple of tours and speaking with her, I booked the place without my fiance seeing it at the time since he was overseas – even then, I was still a little weary of how things would turn out given that most of my picks were highly recommended by reviews fro other brides prior. It was the best decision we could have made through and through. They handled EVERYTHING -- included everything, and their coordinator was a saint. I’ve written about this venue a couple of times now on other forums to say that the place really makes you feel like you are their first and only priority, Blaire especially. Every question and concern was answered promptly and without hesitation. I loved that this hotel had only one private grand ballroom where no other events could take place on your day, and the staff’s attention was on you. The ballroom sits alone on the plaza level of the hotel and the lobby area is ideal for cocktail hours. The ballroom itself needs little decoration and the lighting made it all fit the modern theme I was going for. Ceremony sites are available as well, making it great for OOT guests. On the day of, Blaire served as our DOC, and everything went as smoothly as possible from the vendors to the details to the timing. I had quite a few DIY projects, and she was on board with all of them, allowing me to be as creative as possible and with little direction, managed to get the venue looking exactly the way I had envisioned it. I cannot say enough good things about this place and it was worth every time my husband and I paid. The food, service, staff, and hotel were all top-notch, and our guests still rave about it even now. I hope that future brides take notice of this place!
