Here is the e-mail I sent to the management of Waterside after my son's wedding reception:
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. My son's wedding reception on Saturday was a tremendous success!
Where do I begin?
Firstly, the food. Fine dining is a hobby of mine. And whether I'm dining locally or when I travel, I always make it a point to experience the best restaurants and chefs. While vacationing in Charleston over Christmas, I 'thought' I had tasted the best oysters ever at a wonderful little seaside restaurant. That was until I tasted those at my son's reception. The sauce was incredible! And it wasn't just the oysters. Every dish was top-notch from its quality, to its presentation, to its taste. My compliments to the chef!
Secondly, the venue. Your restaurant is beautiful. When my son and daughter-in-law first decided to have their reception at Waterside, I was concerned about the travel time (over an hour's drive from the church ceremony). Knowing what I know now, we would have travelled even further. We had several older guests in attendance whose mobility is hampered. As one of them told me on Sunday, "Even though I just sat in my seat, everywhere I looked gave me joy. The view of the room and dance floor, the view of the river and skyline, all was a 'feast for the eyes.'" I agree totally.
I was also initially concerned because due to some family circumstances, we needed to have an afternoon reception. I was afraid it might dampen the 'party mood' of our guests. Wrong! Great food and a great atmosphere certainly leads to a great time.
Lastly, the staff. I have three words to describe your staff: attentive, attentive, attentive. Actually, there are more: friendly, professional, courteous, well-trained .... I could go on and on. From the maitre d' to the bartender to everyone in between, you should be very proud! They certainly contributed to making my son and daughter-in-law's reception a truly wonderful 'first appearance' as husband and wife.
Since Saturday, I have been inundated with compliments from our guests. So, I end as I began. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this amazing review of your son's wedding . We are thrilled that we were able to be part of his special day. And we are so happy you enjoyed all of the food that Waterside has to offer. We would love to see you here at...
My husband and I had the privilege of having our wedding at the Waterside on August 2nd and this venue is absolutely amazing. The only request my husband had while searching for the perfect venue, was for it to be on the Hudson with the NYC skyline. We looked at a few places before we went to the waterside and every one of them was overpriced and just wasn't for us. When we went to the Waterside, we knew right away that it was the place for our wedding! We met with Francis the first day and she went over the whole menu and what is included in the price, which let me tell you is EXTREMELY reasonable for what is included and the fantastic view of NYC. They were able to remove things from the menu that we did not want to lower the price. For every other place, the price was set in stone. Also, the food - ohhh myyyy the food!!! It was the best food I have ever had at a wedding!!! We also worked with Shantal and Lesley, who were absolutely amazing and very accommodating.
We received so many outstanding compliments from our guests. Many of which said it was the best wedding they have ever been to and how much they loved the food and the view!!
We can't thank the Waterside enough for making our day perfect!!!

It has taken me almost a year to write this review because I was so disappointed and upset but the way my wedding was handled by the The Waterside, that I needed some time to process everything. Below are some of my main points.
The Waterside staff called me and wanted to change rehearsal time less than a week before wedding. I had booked this rehearsal time 4 months in advance. (rehearsal dinner was planned afterwords at another location for a specific time, there was no way I could re coordinate the plans and rehearsal dinner reservations for such a large party. The Waterside switching things up last minute should be the least of my worries the week before my wedding.
Upon arriving at the Waterside before my ceremony, I was told that neither I nor my bridal party could have access to the bridal suite, despite being promised the suite upon signing the contract and giving my deposit. I was told it was being used for something else that day. We had nowhere to put our belongings/purses, and finally a staff member found a place for it to be stored. She took our stuff and left with it.
I had wedding accessories missing- I brought boxes over the day before with everything labeled and where they should go. No one ever put bubbles on chairs for my wedding ceremony as instructed. I had maybe 70 bubbles for the chairs; it would have taken 5 minutes to place each one on a chair. If this was not something they were willing to do, they should have told me when I handed them the boxes of bubbles the day before so I could have arranged for someone else to handle it.
The Maître D was a woman I never met before, not Shantal, who I was told would be the Maître D, whom I was introduced to several times, or any of the staff that I had met on my previous visits.
Before the bridal party was introduced, the waitress was taking orders of the food, since my bridal party was not seated at the table they could not choose from the menu and simply had to go by the waitress' description. When asked the choices, they were told, "beef, chicken, or fish". I was mortified. For an establishment that prides themselves on their food and presentation, the menu description from the person taking the order was what you would expect from an airline flight attendant.
The outdoor ceremony area is a wind tunnel. I was never warned about this. I was told by Francis during the run through that they had white pillars I could use to put flowers on for the ceremony which I decided to use. A month before the ceremony I called to confirm that I could use these pillars and I was told they broke and I would need to come up with something on my own. I paid my florist to rent her columns for the $500 worth of flowers I already ordered to be placed on them. When I arrived at my wedding ceremony, no flowers and columns were set up. I asked why and was told the wind blew one column down and the flower pot cracked. The Waterside staff has my cell number and should have notified me of what happened instead of me being shocked before my own ceremony.
One of my bridesmaids, reflecting on my wedding day about a couple of months later actually said to me that she loved everything about my wedding but said, " I did not like the way your venue treated you". I never spoke a word about my feelings regarding my treatment from the Waterside to anyone, but she was able to observe on her own just how awful it was. It was embarrassing. I felt far from special on my wedding day.
This venue was Heaven sent to us! I first would like to thank Francis, Leslie and Shantel for doing such an amazing job at organizing our wedding. From the minute that I called and spoke to Francis, I knew that this venue was the right one! She was so friendly, professional and helpful and experienced!!! It was such a pleasure working with them and giving them our wedding to do. Our ceremony was outside on the patio, with the NYC skyline as our backdrop. It was incredible and stunning. Our cocktail and reception rooms were absolutely gorgeous and all of our guests raved about the place and especially the food. Everything was perfect. They were so organized and professional and friendly. We are so happy that we had our special day at Waterside. It is a beautiful memory and beautiful pictures that we will cherish and have forever.
Greeks demonstrate their virtue and goodness by extending their warmth and hospitality (philoneksía) to their guests. In Greek mythology there is a religious obligation to be hospitable to strangers. It is considered a measure of their spirituality and it is believed that treating each guest as if they were a deity in disguise would lead to good and great rewards both here on earth and in heaven.
On July 4th my wife, the former Prima Ballerina of the NJ Ballet and one of the original Balanchine girls, Kathleen Ann McCready and I the Reverend Lawrence Michael Heisler, half Greek on my mother's side, were treated to a level of philonesksia that the Gods of Greek Mythology would have reveled in. We chose the Waterside Catering in North Bergen partially because it's a beautiful wedding and party facility with breath-taking views of the New York skyline and the mighty Hudson River but more importantly because it's owners and management are warm, terrific and sincerely good people who also just happen to be meticulously consummate professionals when it comes to the Art of Catering. These folks really know how to create a major celebration and with a dignified flare. Their entire staff were warm and welcoming and performed at an extraordinarily high level with sensitivity and anticipation. I would be amiss if I didn't share many words about a great kitchen staff and about their chef that is fast becoming known as a culinary giant. The accolades from our guests about our amazing little affair have been overwhelming. Statements about the “incredible food and beverage service,” “the hospitality!” “the beautiful inspired floral environment and that “magical LED wedding room with the panoramic windows of the NY skyline!” Yes, thank you Frances, you said that it would be an extraordinary evening for our guests and you with your talented staff delivered the goods! If we were asked by Triple AAA to rate the overall performance of the Waterside Catering specifically in regard to our wedding, we would award them the coveted 5 Diamond Award. Just .04% of the restaurants in all of America receive 5 Diamonds and for us the Waterside was right there with the greats, N.Y.C.'s Le Bernadin and Per Se. Extraordinary event!
My husband and I celebrated our 50th birthdays/ 25th wedding anniversary with a combined party at the Waterside. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing everything was! We have thrown many parties at MANY different venues and my guests were all telling me that this one was the BEST! It started with Shantal who is so professional and knows exactly how to get to know your personality and figure out what will be the best party for you and your guests. I told her I didn't want a lengthy sit down dinner and she set up the room with cocktail tables, couches, and fun furniture so it had more of a cocktail party feel. The view is breathtaking! When my guests walked in to the room, their mouths dropped in awe! I had originally wanted a rooftop bar in NYC for my party and this surpassed it by far! The food was delicious and plentiful! We had timing issues because of guests arriving late and Shantal was so easygoing about "our schedule" and adjusted it by just reading the crowd. MANY times throughout the night, she would ask me if I wanted a glass of wine or a plate of food. I didn't have to think of one thing and could just enjoy my party and my guests! If you are contemplating booking the Waterside, DO IT!!! You will not be disappointed!!!
This is the second time my family is using the Waterside venue for special events. The first was my niece's 1st birthday party (which was like a wedding in itself) and just two weekends ago, I had my wedding there and it couldn't of been more perfect. We had the ceremony outside by the water, the cocktail hour on the second floor where you could see the entire city with great views and then followed with the reception upstairs. My friends, coworkers and families were all raving about how modern and beautiful the space was! I worked with Francis initially and followed up with Chantelle later for all the details. Having already performed so many weddings at the venue, all the minor details you would never think of were like second nature to them. From the timeline of what the day would look like to the outcome, my husband and I couldn't of been more pleased. Thank you so much for an amazing day that will always remain special to us!
Ever since I was a little girl, I had always wanted to get married by the water. Then I got engaged and as my then fiancé and I were looking for places we came across this beautiful website that had a beautiful view over looking NYC and was located right on the Hudson River. As soon as we went to see it, we all immediately fell in love with the place as a whole. The people who work there are extremely friendly, compassionate, helpful and understanding. The location is ideal and the interior is immaculate. It is clean and modern with tile floors and huge windows over looking the Hudson. Needless to say we immediately booked the place. Then the day of the wedding arrived and it was just PERFECT! I couldn't imagine having my wedding anywhere else. Everybody was accommodating and made sure that the wedding ran smoothly and accurately, which it did. I was able to have a ceremony that I had always dreamed of by the water and a reception that was literally a dream come true. To this day my husband and I wish that everybody can be as lucky as we were to have such an amazing wedding at the Waterside.
Waterside Restaurant and Catering gave my husband and me what truly was the best day of our lives. Our wedding was perfect thanks to Shantal V! From the start Shantal was a pleasure to work with. She helped us make important decisions about seating and food choices. The entire staff was quick to respond with any questions or concerns we had. On the day of the event everything looked perfect and the day couldn't have been any smoother. Our guest loved everything food was great and the view was beautiful
Waterside Restaurant and Catering gave my husband and me what truly was the best day of our lives. Waterside was the first venue we visited when we started planning our wedding, and my husband said right away that it would be the one we would choose. I checked out a few other venues and, with each one, quickly came to the conclusion that none would compare. We were looking for a city view first and foremost, and Waterside provides everything you could ask for in terms of that – from the GWB to the Freedom Tower and everything in between, you can see it all, with only the Hudson River between. Besides the breathtaking view of the city, Waterside also has the greatest, most responsive staff. Frances and Chantal were always available at a moment’s notice with answers to our questions throughout our engagement, and on the day of the wedding they worked so hard, with a smile, to ensure that everything we needed was taken care of. The venue itself is gorgeous – fun, modern, and elegant. We also had our ceremony there, and because of the weather that day it was moved inside. I thought this might disappoint me, but the indoor setup and views from inside are so beautiful that it didn’t faze us one bit. And the food was incredible both in quantity and quality – our guests thought the cocktail hour was dinner because there was so much! There is something for everyone, and it’s all absolutely delicious. Both during and after the reception, so many of our guests told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to; we are still getting compliments on everything. But the real compliments should go to Waterside Restaurant and Catering. From start to finish, it was the perfect day at the best venue we could have imagined.
I could have never imagined the amazing wedding the Waterside gave to us. Shantal, Gus & Frances went above & beyond for us. I can hardly put into words how magical our wedding was! From the beautiful ceremony to a blow-you-away cocktail hour to the hands down best reception I've ever seen, the Waterside staff could not have been more accommodating. One week later and we are still hearing how amazing the wedding was from friends & family. I highly recommend Waterside for any bride looking for a venue in the NYC/North Jersey area! Thank you Waterside!
Thank you Waterside for making our wedding a success and executing on all of our ideas! Not only is this a gorgeous venue, with amazing food and views, but everyone there is a pleasure to work with and followed through on everything we planned for our special day. A special thank you to Shantal, Frances and Miguel. You guys are the best!!!
At our bridal show last week at Waterside Restaurant & Catering, the staff, food and facilities were, as always, exceptional. We hold dozens of events each year and each time we are at Waterside we are impressed.
We consistently find that in working with us to set up and run the event the staff is incredibly knowledge, professional, and friendly. This terrific service makes it a pleasure to hold a truly remarkable event.
Each time we have been there, the facilities have been immaculate from the lavish white furnishings to the stunning sheer glass widow walls overlooking the Hudson River and the New York City skyline.
And, the food has been a tremendous hit with every guest. The service staff are incredibly pleasant and the food is plentiful, delicious and lavishly displayed,
Our most sincere thanks to Frances, Lesley, Shantal, George and the entire staff who work so hard time and time again to flawlessly present a wonderful event.
Thank-you, Rich and Lisa Drozd

We had our wedding here this past summer: ceremony, cocktail hour and the reception all at Waterside. Couldn't have been happier. Working with Shantal was an absolute pleasure--we truly valued the professionalism, attentiveness to (EVERY) detail, and personal attention she provided us every step of the way. She went above and beyond what we would have expected from a maître d' and made the entire process that much easier.
= The Food =
When we went for our initial tasting a few months before the wedding day, we were impressed with the selection. Everything was delicious, but we were wary of the "mass produced" effect that wedding food usually falls to--steaks like hockey pucks, dry chicken, mediocre fish. But boy were we (and the guests) pleasantly surprised. Every guest we talked to raved about the spectacular selection of food at cocktail hour (more than anyone could possibly eat), as well as the overall quality of it all. The same could be said of dinner--everyone said their food came out exactly as they wanted (steaks cooked rare when asked!) and VERY generous portions. One thing is for sure--they do not skimp on the food portioning here and you certainly get your money's worth.
Quick aside: the open bar option was excellent! They even worked with us and ordered cases of Sam Adams Oktoberfest to serve at the wedding for no additional charge. All the liquor was good quality--Johnny Walker Black Label, Crown Royal, Belvedere Vodka, etc. Very happy with it!
= The Service =
As I said earlier, Shantal (our maître d') was spectacular. From the moment we walked in to scope the place out, she was a joy to work with and helped address our every need and concern. When she was not available via email during the months of planning leading up to the date, the other staff quickly jumped in to assist. Overall, I would absolutely rate their help and support throughout the entire wedding an A+. During the cocktail hour, there was an abundance of wait staff and the bartenders were not your average joe mixing drinks. For the reception, the wait staff was friendly and did a good job keeping things moving and the guests happy. The only complaint I would have is regarding the end of the night: the dessert came out, coffee and tea was served, and before you knew it they had begun clearing tables earlier than we would have liked. I understand that our wedding ran until 12AM, but it still put off a few of the guests. But truly, that's our only complaint about the service--it was spectacular otherwise!
= The Venue =
Absolutely gorgeous views of mid-town and lower Manhattan. This was one of the deciding factors for us--we knew getting married with that as a backdrop would be unforgettable. The guests were very excited and amazed with the views. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather that evening. However, even if it rains, their indoor option still provides great views of the skyline. The upstairs reception hall fit our guest list of 150 very comfortably along with the DJ, 2 bars, and a photobooth.
Truly, you can't beat the views from Waterside, particularly for the pricing. Sure there are other places (such as Liberty House), but they charge such a ridiculous premium simply for being across from Lower Manhattan. Trust me when I say the pricing and deals at Waterside were worth every penny to us. Our guests said they had an excellent time, and that's really what mattered to us in the end.
We chose the Waterside for various reasons: location, the amazing food and their willingness to work with us under certain circumstances. Initially they seemed very willing to please and very accommodating. After a couple of initial communication glitches (I live out of town and my daughter lives in NJ) things seemed to go smoothly. One of the owners generously offered to refund us for two guests since seven of them cancelled last minute. The ceremony went really well and the maitre d (Shantal) was very helpful and friendly. The food was out of this world and everyone raved about it. Unfortunately, some of the table linens were soaked at dinner and some of the food was served cold. When I asked why the linens were wet, there was no explanation. At the end of the evening, my husband and I stayed after all the guests were gone in order to pack the remaining centerpieces, linens, candle cylinders which belonged to our daughter and take them with us. We were told to just leave everything, someone would pack all our belongings for us and to make sure to return first thing the next day to pick up our things. We left behind plastic storage boxes to make it more convenient. The next morning we returned to get our things and went home happy that everything had been packed for us. With so many out of town guests, it took us a couple of days before we could go through our things. Unfortunately, we discovered we were missing the remaining centerpieces (which were personalized and made especially for the wedding) and the candle cylinders (36 of them). When I contacted them to find out where they were, I was told they didn't have them. I texted the owner and she said they only had 30 of the 36 cylinders but no idea what had happened to the remaining centerpieces. When I returned to pick up the cylinders I was told there were only 20. I expressed my disappointment and was told someone would get in touch with me to explain what had happened. The wedding was on September 7, 2013. It is now a month later and I still have not heard from them nor received the refund they so generously offered. I highly recommend the Waterside for their food. I have had dinner, lunch and brunch there several times and have never been dissatisfied with their food. If you do go ahead and have your wedding there, I recommend not leaving your things behind and trusting they will put everything together for you, just in case they "can't find them" the next day.
We had our wedding at the Waterside in July. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Frances, Shantal, and the entire Waterside staff went above and beyond to make sure that our wedding went off without a hitch. From the ceremony (including the slight rain shower) to the reception, everything was wonderful. I didn't have to worry about a thing and the staff made sure of it. There was not one moment where I felt like I was being bothered by the staff over details during the night. They had taken care of everything. The whole night was magical. The food was DELICIOUS as well! Our guests are still talking about what a great time they had and how beautiful the venue is. The Waterside made my husband and I feel so special that night and we appreciate everything. If you are looking for a gorgeous venue with caring staff for your wedding, you should absolutely look to the Waterside. - Kathryn and Jesse
Thank you to the staff at Waterside for helping to create the most memorable night of our lives. Shantal and Frances went above and beyond to make everything perfect. All of our guests complemented the beautiful room with the most incredible view. The food was spectacular and the staff topnotch!
We were married at the Waterside at 6:30 in the evening. Great weather and a great backdrop for pictures. Our cocktail hour was spectacular all of my guests raved about the food! Amazing seafood, lobster ravioli, duck....all were a big hit. We had a cocktail reception which was great. My guests were able to eat, drink, and dance when they wanted. It was one big amazing party. I had 20 to 30 messages the next day from guests that said this was the best wedding they ever attended. The food was outstanding and the views are amazing!!!! I would highly recommend the Waterside for a great wedding or party!!
Thank you so much! It was such a pleasure to host yours and Carl's Wedding here at Waterside. You are an amazing couple, and we look forward to seeing you very soon.
I got married at Waterside in August and their team could not have been more perfect. I worked with Frances and Shantal. They were incredibly accommodating, experienced, professional and energized. I felt completely comfortable going into the wedding day, as I knew the team was prepared. The day was absolutely seamless, down to every detail. The venue was gorgeous, the food was incredible. I have no negative feedback at all. I give a lot of credit to the Waterside team. It isn't easy to plan events like this and they make it look completely effortless. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone planning their wedding. You will NOT be dissappointed!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review. You were truly a pleasure to work with and we wish you many years of happiness. Thank you again for allowing us to be part of your special day.
Thank you for making our daughter's Sweet Sixteen Party an unforgettable event.
