Roney is editor in chief and cofounder of The Knot (www.theknot.com), the #1 wedding resource. Motivated by the excruciating
process of planning her own wedding, Roney made it her mission to find a fun,
efficient, up-to-date way for brides and grooms to plan their weddings.
Everyone she talked to agreed: The wedding world was ready for a new voice and
the Web was the best place to break new ground. Building on her magazine
publishing and new media experience, Roney cofounded The Knot with her husband
(CEO of The Knot, David Liu) and two partners in 1996. In just seven years, The
Knot has become the leader among wedding media companies, extending its
top-notch content and tools through its award-winning website TheKnot.com, and
to the offline world through a series of books and magazines bearing The Knot
brand.
As an expert on real-world weddings, Roney takes on weddings with the frank, easy manner and real-world know-how of a best friend who has been through it all before. She lays it on the line and guides to-be-weds through every step, from proposal ideas and meeting the in-laws to maximizing the budget and readjusting to life after the honeymoon.
At The Knot, Roney is responsible for overseeing all content -- from The Knot website to the company's national and local magazines THE KNOT magazine and THE KNOT Weddings regional magazines. As the author of The Knot advice column "Ask Carley: Etiquette Q&A," she hears gripes and gives advice and planning ideas to thousands of couples. Roney is also author of two wedding-planning book series that includes: The Knot Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World (Broadway Books, December 1998); The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner (Broadway Books, January 2000); The Knot Guide to Wedding Vows and Traditions (Broadway Books, 2001); The Knot Book of Wedding Gowns (Chronicle Books, 2002); and, The Knot Book of Wedding Flowers (Chronicle Books, 2003)
Most recently, Carley added "designer" to her do-it-all resume, when she entered the product design and development arena with the launch of her custom line of chic, affordable wedding accessories (ring pillows, guest books, flower girl baskets, and pen & holder sets) on TheKnot.com.
Roney, a frequent guest on both television and radio shows, has also spoken at many bridal and Internet industry events offering the latest tips on everything from wedding fashion to dealing with in-laws. Roney helped develop the groundbreaking interactive wedding planning series "TODAY Ties The Knot" for NBC's TODAY Show and was featured as the series' key expert in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. She has also appeared on OPRAH, ABC's The View, LIVE with Regis & Kelly, CBS's The Early Show, E!, CBS Evening News, CNN, and FOX News Channel, and she has been featured in Vogue, Elle, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, The New York Times, USA TODAY, and The Wall Street Journal.
