Q. We're planning a wedding in West Des Moines and would prefer to marry outdoors. What time of year sees the most blue skies?
A. Iowans definitely get to appreciate the full four seasons, with freezing winters and sultry summers. Spring temperatures are comfortable, but you will be risking rain - or at least, intense humidity -- in April, May, and June. July is do-able, so long as you've got plenty of shade (temps can reach 100° F, after all!). August, September, and October are your best bets: temperatures are still warm, humidity is low, and rain's a lot less likely. No matter when you choose to wed outdoors, be sure that there's a Plan B. If you're at a site where you can't move to indoor facilities, renting a tent is your best option. In the Des Moines area, A to Z Party & Tent Rental has got you covered with a wide range of tent options (including 'walls' and walkways). A to Z Party & Tent Rental, (515) 266-4283, Des Moines.
