Des Moines: Local Menu Options?
Q. Do you have any ideas for local foods we can serve at our reception?

A. People think of Iowa, and they think of corn -- except for your wedding guests, who'll all be saying CHEESE! Offer up Newton's own world-famous Maytag Blue Cheese during your cocktail hour, or purchase small wheels to give to guests in welcome baskets or even as favors -- it's the perfect Iowan delicacy. We promise, they won't think it's cheesy -- just delicious. Maytag Dairy Farms, (800) 247-2458, Newton. Impress your guests by serving a vintage grown right here in Iowa. Ehrle Brothers Winery in Homestead is Iowa's oldest operating winery (they've been perfecting the craft since 1934, making them the Amana Colonies original winery). Our pick? Their exclusive 'Lover's Wine,' made from a time-honored Amana Church recipe. Take a tour, and you can also sample from their array of old-fashioned fruit wines. For a completely different feeling all together, pour guests glasses from the Summerset Inn & Winery. Iowa's largest vineyard, they create all their wines from homegrown grapes, producing a variety of local vinos that are sure to please your palate. Both vineyards are available for tours -- why not take a break (and a sip or two)? Ehrle Brothers Winery and Alma's Washhouse, (319) 622-3241, Homestead; Summerset Inn & Winery, (515) 961-3545, Indianola
