VENDOR REVIEW FOR OUR 5/22/04 WEDDING:

Our wedding was absolutely terrifically wonderful.

Here are my vendor reviews. Email me if you have questions....

SITE:
OCEAN VIEW INN & RESORT, Gloucester: A+

I have read some mixed things about them, but things on my end went absolutely perfectly.

The owners can be a pain to deal with but the wedding coordinators, Kias & Steve were

both great. Though I dealt with both a bit leading up to the wedding, Steve was our Day-Of-Wedding

coordinator and he was so organized and detail-oriented and on-top-of-things that we didn’t have to

didn’t have to worry about anything. It all went perfectly. The OV looked wonderful, everything went

like clock-work, the view is terrific and the food was great.

DRESS: BRIDALS BY VALERIE, Reading: A- for dress / B- customer service

I really don’t know how to begin to even review them. My dress looked awesome and it was

actually very reasonably priced. I had a major alteration done on my dress and it came out

wonderfully. I was absolutely delighted with the dress. The bustle looked ok. Customer service

is so-so. My dress was 6 weeks late but I had ordered it fairly early so I wasn't panicking or anything.

Valerie was great to deal with (and I have heard the same about her husband). However the

rest of the staff can seem rather disorganized and curt. Alterations were a bit pricey (bustle &

major fix were reasonable but then they charged a fortune to put little straps on). I guess you

sort of have to take the good with the bad with them.

TIARA:
AMYSBRIDALACCESSORIES.COM,: A-

Easy, easy transaction, looked exactly like what was pictured, just what I wanted, reasonably

priced, fast shipping, great return policy. I was leery about ordering a tiara online but it went

really well and I highly recommend them.

BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES: BRIDESMAIDS GALLERIA, Peabody: A

The place looks like a tiny little hole-in-the-wall on Route 1, Peabody in the Holiday Inn,

but there is so much stuff to choose from in there. Gayle, the owner, is amazing.

She seems so busy but always knew exactly who we were and exactly what the

status of our dresses were. Her alterations were easy and done quickly.

My BMs looked great!!!

TUXES: CLASSIC TUXEDO, Woburn: C

(Cambridge store: A … though we only used them initially)

Well, I will start with the positive: the guys all looked great which is the most important

thing and we got a good deal at a bridal show ($133 per tux & 2 free tuxes). Also, Tony

and the Cambridge store are fantastic. If we had dealt with him the entire time they would

have gotten praised highly but due to proximity to Gloucester, we ended up picking up tuxes

at the Woburn stores. Big mistake. All the guys’ measurements done in Woburn were screwy

(Tony in Cambridge had to straighten the mess out beforehand) then on the Thursday before

the wedding when they picked them up DH’s sleeves were too short and FIL’s pants were also

too short so they told us to come back after 4 on Friday which was very inconvenient since our

rehearsal was Friday at 5. So at 4 on Friday, FI and FIL show up and the guys said, “I couldn’t

remember if the sleeves needed to be taken up or down SO I JUST DIDN’T DO IT”. HUH?!?!?!

So he had to make the fix then at 4:25, DH and his father had to drive at top speed back to

Gloucester, barely had time to change for rehearsal and it made for a very stressful afternoon.

Stick to Cambridge and you should be fine but avoid Woburn at all costs.

FLORIST: SAGE, Gloucester: A

I could not put my bouquet down. Really.

I carried it around all day Sunday after the

wedding. I was in love with it. Gina did exactly

what I wanted and my BMs and mom looked

looked lovely too. She really did a nice job with

the flowers and colors I wanted. The church

flowers were pretty and they also did a nice

garland for the mantelpiece at the Ocean View

DJ: Mike O’Neil: A++

Click logo for link:

Mike & Dave did a fantastic, terrific, wonderful job. They played exactly what we wanted

and the dance floor was mobbed for the entire wedding, something very important to us

as we both love to dance. People kept commenting on how much fun the music was.

DH and I have really varied & eclectic taste in music and they played everything we wanted

and nothing we did not want. It really made the party perfect and absolutely made the wedding.

CAKE: CAFFE SICILIA, Gloucester: A

Caffe Sicilia is a fantastic Italian bakery in Gloucester.

We wanted something different so they made us a

tiramisu cake. It rocked. I had two pieces after the wedding.

We also had yummy plates of Italian pastries.

People raved. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

PHOTOGRAPHER: CRISTIN BRADLY: A for wedding day / photos A+

Cristin was unobtrusive, pleasant to work with, very organized, thoughtful and really

goes out of her way to get all the shots you need. But the good thing is that I hardly

noticed her and she took 20 rolls of film…. she was completely subtle. Plus she is

an absolute peach to deal with. I got my photos back and they are SO wonderful and

she gave me tons and tons and tons of shots. It is truly amazing. Also, she gives

all negatives and a disk with everything included in her reasonable fee.

BAGPIPER: SCOTT FLETCHER: A

Click piper for link to Scott Fletcher's website:

Scott was terrific... very prompt,

played before the ceremony then

stayed right through the entire

receiving line, played great

and was completely easy to deal with.

BARTENDERS: Cape Ann Bartenders, Salem, MA: C

CAB were completely nice and pleasant to deal with before the wedding but we found

them very unfriendly and crabby at the reception. Some of our guest also commented

on their bad attitude. We tipped them well at the end of the night and they had a tip jar

out so they weren’t angry about money. We honestly thought that they just did not like

us for some odd reason but another Knottie on here has the same complaint in her vendor

reviews. Also, the bartender bitched at my before husband right the wedding because

we only bought one bottle of Bacardi (yeh, um, no one I know drinks Bacardi as demonstrated

by the fact that we still have the full and unopened bottle from the wedding at home… we

know what our friends/family drink!) but the point being my husband didn’t need the bartender

snapping at him minutes before the ceremony. I also went out of my way to introduce myself

to him at the wedding and he was very short with me too which I thought was odd as I was the

person paying them. Finally we had a “signature drink” which was supposed to be a surprise

for the end of the night and the bartenders ruined the surprise by sampling this drink themselves

right at the bar during the cocktail hour so everyone saw him and the surprise was ruined.

The bartenders certainly didn’t ruin the reception and their price is right and they did an ok job

serving drinks so I can’t NOT recommend them, but they really are one my one regret and I

personally wouldn’t hire them again. Just my (very long-winded) opinion….

Jeff and I met through mutual friends (Jeff’s good friend from BU

had a childhood friend – coincidently
awrynn from the Knot – who worked

at a company with a good friend an ex-coworker of mine

and eventually we all became good friends. Got it? ;-))

at an REM concert in September of 1999,

though we didn't start officially seeing each other right away.

We got engaged on our two year anniversary on December 3, 2002

in the Boston Public Gardens. We are having our wedding at a church

in the city I grew up in and a reception at an inn right on the ocean

in May of 2004. We can't wait for our Big Day!!

We are planning the wedding by just envisioning everything

as one giant party - which is what we do well!

I sent this to all my BMs and told them that they were welcome

to forward it back to me if I ever started being a Bridezilla freak.

Luckily, I never got it back from any of them.

I love love love love love my dress

Amazing.... somehow one maid of honor, three bridesmaids and FIs "best person"

all selected, loved and settled on this dress with minimal effort.

I am so psyched! We are getting it in a Garnet color though..
