West Maui and South Maui are the most popular places to hold weddings. Both regions have plenty of tourist activities and multiple guest acommodations. The chance of rain increases as you travel east. Upcountry Maui has cooler temperatures than the rest of the island.

Beaches

All beaches in Maui County are public, meaning any given person has the right to access any given beach at any given time. Do you need a permit to hold your wedding on the beach? Some people say yes and others will tell you no. Even if you contact the County yourself, you'll get different answers.

Here are some tips for beach weddings on Maui:

• The County tends to be stricter about permits in South Maui. But that doesn't necessarily mean you need to have one in order to have your wedding on a South Maui beach.
• If you have a larger group (over 40) or you plan on setting up chairs or an arch, you will most likely need a permit.
• Locations are available on a first come, first serve basis. You cannot rope off an area or deny public access to your ceremony location.
• It is illegal to consume alcohol on the beach. That's why the wedding packages include sparkling cider!
• Morning ceremonies produce the best photographs- better lighting and clear, calm water.
• It's too hot to have a wedding on the beach between noon and 3pm.
• Late afternoon, early evening weddings may experience more wind than the morning weddings.
• Check the tide charts to make sure you'll have enough sand.

West Maui Beaches
Most beaches near Lahaina are very crowded on the weekends and tend to have rocky shorelines. The beaches listed here are mainly located north of Lahaina, in the Kaanapali and Kapalua resort areas. There are plenty of beaches south of Lahaina with great views. However, these beaches are located alongside the highway, which can be loud.

Slaughterhouse aka Mokula'ia Bay
No sand during the winter. Partially protected from afternoon winds. Best views of Molokai. Use concrete stairway to access it.

D.T. Fleming
Popular local spot. Busy on the weekends. Plenty of parking and shade. Public restrooms.

Oneloa Beach
Usually uncrowded and private. Long, sandy beach lined with resorts, which are on a small hill above. No restrooms or shade. Some parking.

Kapalua Bay
Well-known tourist beach. Lined with palm trees. Two access points. Parking and restrooms available.

Napili Beach
Gets crowded. Protected from afternoon winds. Two access points. Limited parking at one access point.

Kahekili Beach Park
Partially protected from afternoon winds. Views of Lanai and Molokai. Plenty of parking. Restrooms and covered picnic areas.

Black Rock/Kaanapali Beach
Gets crowded near Black Rock, in front of the Sheraton. Public beach path lines most of the beach as well as resorts, condos, and restaurants. Plenty of soft sand. Free public parking is very limited. Can park at Whaler's Village.

Central Maui Beaches
The beaches here are not recommended for weddings. Most are used by local fishermen and windsurfers. The views are not great. Wind is a major issue on this side of the island. If you want your ceremony to take place on the beach, stick to South Maui and West Maui.

North Shore Beaches
Perhaps best suited for photograph sessions, the beaches along this coast are plagued by the wind. If you want your ceremony to take place on the beach, stick to South Maui and West Maui.

Ho'okipa
Gets crowded since it's the best place in the world to windsurf. Plenty of parking at the overlook. Public restrooms located at the lower parking lot.

Baldwin Park
Very crowded on the weekends. Lawn area next to the basketball court. Public restrooms and parking available.

Spreckelsville Beach
Nice views and mostly deserted. Located in a nice housing development with a country club. Long, sandy beach. Windy. Planes fly overhead.

East Maui Beaches
The shoreline tends to be rocky on this side of the island. Very remote but the views are spectacular.

Pa'iloa Beach at Wai'anapanapa State Park
Black rock beach with beautiful scenery, including a natural arch. Can get crowded at the actual beach but trails lead to some scenic viewpoints. Public restrooms and plenty of parking available.

Hana Bay
Hana Pier located on one side. Public parking available.

Koki Beach
Beautiful beach with a tiny island located just off-shore. Popular with the locals. Sand is a reddish color. Limited parking. No restrooms.

Hamoa Beach
Salt and pepper sand. Can get crowded on the weekends. Access via a paved path. Parking and restrooms available.

South Maui Beaches
Any beach in South Maui is a great beach for a wedding. Best part of the island for sunset views. The farther south you go, the less people.

Maalaea Bay/Sugar Beach
Very long stretch of sandy beach. Wind picks up in the afternoon. Not as crowded as the Kihei beaches.

Kamaole Beaches
Very popular tourist beaches. Divided into three parts. Kam I is the largest and least crowded. Kam III is popular with the locals and has a large grassy area on one side. Parking and restrooms available at all three spots.

Keawakapu
Long, sandy beach lined with large, private estates. Beautiful views of West Maui, Lanai, Molokini, and Kaho'olawe. Popular wedding spot. Mauna Kai Resort located at one end. Two access points. One parking lot is located on the mountain-side of South Kihei Road. The other is at the dead end. No restrooms.

Wailea Beach
Wide beach lined with large resorts, mainly the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons. Public walkway lines the entire beach. Very crowded in the early afternoon. Public parking and restrooms available.

Polo Beach
Located in front of the Fairmont Kea Lani. One end is usually crowded. Plenty of parking. Restrooms available.

Palaua Beach/White Rock
Fairly empty. Fronted by a few private homes. No designated parking or restrooms.

Po'olenalena Beach/Love Beach
Becoming more popular for weddings. Great views of Molokini. Southern end fronted by Makena Surf. Gets crowded on the weekends but usually empty during the week. Plenty of parking. No restrooms.

Maluaka Beach/Makena Beach
Fronts the Maui Prince Hotel. Very popular beach for weddings. Mulitple choices for location of ceremony. Plenty of parking. Restrooms available. Two access points.

Oneuli Beach/Black Sand Beach
Usually empty. Nice views. Access via a dirt road. No restrooms.

Big Beach
Very long beach with plenty of sand. Very popular with tourists and locals but large enough to find a semi-private area. Plenty of parking. Public restrooms.

Secret Cove
Small beach with wonderful views. Very popular for weddings due to its privacy. Can be crowded on the weekends. Limited parking. No restrooms.
