::: vendor reviews :::

Vendor Reviews. I know many brides give A+++++++ to each one of their vendors, and while I am stoked they were so happy with each one of them, I didn't learn much from those reviews (ei: what to avoid/prepare for in advance) so it was really important for me to give honest, detailed reviews. Please note a B is still a good review (if I remember correctly a B meant "very good" on my report card). I didn't have any negative experience with my vendors. www.floralsbysue.com). www.remembercatering.com).

Venue: St. Vincent's A
Gorgeous! Made for wonderful photos and seemed easy enough to work with. They even let me use their tables for free.

Day of Coordinator: Suzanne Chowla - A+
Suzanne is AMAZING and did a fantastic job. In my first few phone conversations with her I could tell she was going to do a wonderful job... she is seriously the most thorough person I have ever come in contact with (and I am a law student!). She went above and beyond and worked within my budget. She was really great about setting up lists of questions for me to answer because she knew I didn't have much time to work on my wedding. She calls herself a "day of coordinator" but in fact she is much more than that. She made a very detailed time line for me and sent each one of my vendors individualized time lines! If you are not organized, or you are not detailed orientated or don't want your wedding to be detailed and planned to a T - Suzanne is not the coordinator for you. She is extremely organized, thorough, and intense (I mean that in a good way). She is not for the faint of heart bride's who don't want a precisely planned out wedding. If you want everything planned out in advance perfectly she will work great for you. She is so organized my grandpa made jokes about it in his toast. She made my day go smoothly and was fantastic throughout the whole process. (

Florist: Florals by Sue - A+++++
I was more blown away/pleasantly surprised by Sue than anyone else I worked with. I knew Suzanne (see above) was going to do a fantastic job, the venue was beautiful, etc. but I didn't know how the flowers would come out. The day of my wedding I couldn't believe what Sue produced! I was speechless. She was down to earth, listened attentively, and created a floral scheme even more magnificent than I could ever imagine. Not only that - she under bid any other florist I contacted. I was on a tight budget and affordable but gorgeous flowers were extremely important to me. Her website needs to be updated because it does not do her justice. (

Caterer: Affair to Remember - B
The service and attentiveness to my needs before the wedding was amazing! Marcus Lee is a doll. He went above the call of duty and assisted me with everything. He helped me order the alcohol and referred me to the cheapest service, he included many of the rentals in the price, the tasting was amazing, he returned my calls, etc. Another upside: ATR knew the venue well, and worked within my strict budget. They gave us an expansive menu for the amount of $$ we had to work with.

The reason they get a B is the day of the wedding there were a few disappointments. In all fairness to them initially the wind was horrible and they were battling everything (flowers, table clothes, favors) getting knocked over and probably couldn't focus on the details. They even had to move the chocolate fountain. My mom said they knew the forecast and should have brought more staff. I didn't notice disappointments (except that the buffet food was no longer hot, and the salmon was dry unlike the tasting). The chicken was also a bit cold and the food set up made it difficult to serve yourself and get sauces, side dishes). However, I am a food snob. That should be noted. Many of my guest later told me they thought the food was fantastic!

There was no coffee service with the cake because there were not enough cups (a guest saw them washing cups in the guest bathroom). Again in all fairness they had been serving coffee since the beginning as I requested. One of the worst things - the bartenders didn't know how to make drinks (they didn't even know how to make a cosmo!)... even my signature drink a mojito. I bragged to everyone about the mojito months in advance. My mom washed the mint herself the night before and I made the simple syrup. We had someone bring it over to the bartenders and when I came back from photos (AFTER cocktail hour was over) there were no mojitos. WTF? So I go to the bartenders and they didn't know what the mint was for. My friend had to give them directions how to make them but they tasted horrible. I feel so bad complaining about any of this stuff because the people at ATR were really sweet including the darling bartenders who worked so very hard but the lack of training for the bartenders was kind of bullshit. It wasn't the bartender's fault, they were great and doing their best, but ATR shouldn't have sent over bartenders who didn't know how to make common drinks). I paid for an open bar and went out of my way for special drinks that couldn't be served. Regardless of those things the service was great and I will tip each one of the servers/bartenders. I would even work with ATR again. (www.remembercatering.com)

Photographer: Jason Bennet - A++++
My photos are amazing. Jason is a professional and he deserves all the praise he receives. Jason did a great job encouraging us to have fun in our photos and he definitely caught some real, honest, photos that capture the essence of our families and our wedding remarkably! He was courteous, on time, and creative. My friends were telling me they saw him taking photos all over the place. I would hire him again in a heartbeat - it was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. He made me feel pretty. Every girl wants to feel pretty on their wedding day (don't we ladies?!). He also is more affordable then most photographer's who are in his caliber. If I wish there was anything different, I wish I would have told him to take more detailed photos of the decor. Do not miss the opportunity to book him before he starts charging $5K a wedding. (

Musicians: Simon Butler & Sam Bevan - A
What classy guys! These guys did an amazing job and they are talented players. My chubbyhubby (he is actually pretty thin) is a professional musician with a master's degree and so it was really important we found talented players. We emailed them with what songs we wanted for the ceremony and Matt made them a list of what feel we were going for during the cocktail hour. I think they were there for 3 hours each and it was only $200 per man. I am sure it depends on the day but if you want a real musician for your day w/o the horrible wedding markup check these guys out - they are amazing jazz players. Matt dealt with them but they always responded promptly. I would use them again and again. If they are not available on your date I am sure they can direct you to other players. Note: They only charged us $150 a man because they are friends of friends but usually they charge about $250-$300 a man. ( info@sambevan.com)

Dress Rental: One Night Affair - B+
Love the staff over there... they deserve an A+++.... the dress was too expensive so that is why they get a B+.

Maid/Friend of Honor Dresses: Ebay - A
Jcrew bridal = $325. Jcrew Bridal from Ebay = $80. Need I say more?

Rentals: La Bella Party Rentals - B+
They are awesome, love their stuff, and were flexible with me. I only give them a B because they kinda sucked when it came to changing around my order. It was mixed up at the end and I needed to check in with them a few times to make sure everything was on track). (
www.Labellapartyrental.com)

Makeup: Glowing Bridal - A+
Audrey is the best! She made us all look beautiful. She has the personality similar to my best gal friends. One of my friends even got stuck in the city and she offered to pick them up and bring them to the wedding (in San Rafael!). She was responsive instantly when I called and emailed. All of this for the price lower than any other professional. Ladies, ladies, ladies... do yourself a favor and book Audrey before she is taken on your date. She is an A-lister for sure. I wish she would come over and hang out with me. (

Groomsmen Suit Rentals: After Hours (Reno) B
We didn't have any complaints. Selections isn't great for suits so they get a B.

Videography: Sara Takahashi - A+
Our budget didn't allow for full videography but we decided to hire someone who could tape the affair from start to finish and have one of our friends edit it for us later or hire someone when we could afford it. Sara was amazing. She was the first one there and captured ever little detail. She was there from start to finish, sweet, professional, and had great communication before the wedding. If you are looking for a videographer I highly recommend her. I believe that she usually charges about $600.

Cake: Bev Tanka - A+
It doesn't get any better than Bev. She is was amazing from our first meeting all the way to after the wedding. She made us a huge tester cake when we met her. She was totally up-front about what she can and is willing to create. She traveled all the way from Livermore to San Rafael for us and only charged us $1.75 per person. I couldn't imagine finding someone else to do our cake. Her chocolate cake is moist and the butter cream frosting is simple and rich. One of our favorite memories of our wedding night is sitting up in bed eating left over cake.

Laterns: Asain Ideas A+
Best customer service ever! They will custom make your cord. I think I spent $175-$190 to have this at my wedding and they made the dance floor so romantic. I am selling these lanterns.

Hair: Laura Smiley A
She has done my hair forever and I love her. She usually doesn't do weddings.

Drinks: BevMo B+
Ron was great to deal with. He let me in on so many secrets to save money. I would work with them again. You can return unopen bottles. I think they are great. Only got a B because they forgot the deliver the champagne and my caterer had to hunt them down on the day of the wedding.

Invites/STD: Papersource (DIY) B
What a pain in the ass. I love the papersource!!! That store gets a million A's but it is expensive, invites add up, and they take more time then we had. If I had to do it over again I would probably have had my invited done for me.

The Ceremony & Reception Site:
Details

The ceremony site is so overwhelming with peaches and greens that we decided it would be best to work within that color scheme instead of against it.

Our reception will be around a huge fountain we will fill with flowers:

Invites

This are our DIY Invites. It tried to scan them but they came up a little crooked and sloppy. They look much better in person. We lined all the envelopes and Matt made the map himself in MS Word. We hired Pretty Pen Jen to do the calligraphy. She was affordable, easy to work with and gave us exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend her. Everything was printed with Chocolate or Papaya Ink. The invite was simple: Main Invite, Map, Response Card. On the map we directed everyone to our website for more info on the wedding. Man, oh man, these were a pain in my ass. Seriously ladies: pain in the ass.

our common connection, Dylan:

I didn't grow up with a father so Matt went and asked my grandparents to marry me. My grandma cried and showed him their wedding photos. My grandpa said "who knows maybe in a year you'll want to whack her."

This is us in Paris the week we got engaged:

The morning after:

My ring is a band with diamonds inset - I did not want something that stuck up and got in my way. I am really bad about losing things I have to take off all the time.

Note about us: I am from SF... Matt is from Reno. We live in LA 'cause I am in law school down here and he is a professional musician. I can't wait to get back up to SF. We are getting married at St.Vincent's in the courtyard. We are raging liberals who think EVERYONE should have a right to marry no matter their sexual preference. If you are a conservative - we still like you. Anyway Happy Weddings Ladies!

We should all stop being so anal!
