Celebrating our 1 year anniversary at the Fearrington House Restaurant. Since the 1st anniversary gift is "paper," I got DH this print from www.indigonight.com It depicts the night sky with the stars, moon, and planets as they were the night we got married, as seen from our wedding venue. Thank you to nestie MrsKimandDaniel for the great gift idea. The company was great to work with... I sent them pictures from our wedding and they created this custom horizon for us. They exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend them. If you purchase a print from them, please let them know that I referred you :)

We were selected as a Knot "Real Wedding" in April and were featured as "Real Wedding of the Week" during the week of July 15th!
Click here to go to my Planning Bio (knottie animal_lover). Hopefully by choosing a completely different married knottie name, I won't be causing too much confusion :o)
* A great list of links: info about who to tip & how much, creating your own ceremony script, choosing your wedding music, invitation wording, where to buy paper for your DIY projects, what goes in a program, when the sun sets on your wedding day, wedding timelines, where to buy your shoes, using a travel agent, and the list goes on and on... * A list of pink & green bios! * Information on wedding venues on Oahu * Contact information for all my vendors * And a whole lot more!!! ;o) Need to reach me? I have been pretty busy lately and don’t have nearly as much time as I would like to visit the boards, so if you are going to page me, please do so on the Hawaii board (due to the higher traffic on the DW board, pages there are more likely to get lost) or email me. My email address is hawaiianwedding05 [at] yahoo.com
Everything was amazing! Almost surreal. There was some light rain during the early afternoon that had me really worried, but when it came time for the ceremony everything had cleared and was perfect! There were some minor glitches (to be expected with any wedding) but they didn't matter to me as much as I would have expected because I was just so elated to be marrying my sweetheart! I am so glad we decided to do a DW, we wanted a small intimate wedding, and that's what we got! We had 32 guests and were able to spend time with all the guests during the reception. The Mandarin's site was gorgeous, right next to the beach but not on it (I didn't really want sand between my toes!) and we received so many compliments about how beautiful our wedding was!
I already said it in my planning bio, but I feel like I need to say it again here… thank you to all the wonderful DW and Hawaii knotties that gave me ideas, inspiration, templates, and most importantly, support, during my whirlwind 5 month engagement! I could not have done it without you! I only hope that I can be as helpful for other soon-to-be-wed knotties :o)
Here is a sample of the calligraphy I did on our wedding invitations. Here are some other samples I’ve created:
And here are some samples from the work I did for knottie vibi. (I had to blot out part of each one to protect the privacy of the individuals). Testimonials: Jaime did the calligraphy for my wedding invitations and they look beautiful! She even found brown ink, which is what I wanted for my wedding colors. I picked a font from a calligrapher's website and she was able to duplicate it and get the invites to me in less than a week! If anyone needs calligraphy done, you should contact her. Thanks Jaime :) If anyone needs calligraphy services, I highly recommend Jaime - the turn-around was very fast, and the results look great. Thanks Jaime!!
I received the envelopes today! They are truly gorgeous, better than I ever imagined! Thanks for the fast turnaround time too. I can't wait for my guests to see them.
I just received my envelopes in the mail from my calligrapher and they are gorgeous. …she does a wonderful job. I sent them to her two weeks ago and I've already got them back. Wonderful work and I highly recommend her.
They look beautiful! I love them! Thank you again for being so expeditious with them!
I wanted to let you know that I received the cards. They are beautiful. Thank you so much for making them. They are stunning. Thank you for helping us with our special day.
Contents included snacks from Costco, macademia nuts, mints, bottled water, chocolate-dipped shortbread cookies from Big Island Candies, an Oahu travel planner, an Oahu calendar of events, wedding crossword puzzles, directions to the wedding, a "Big Day Timeline" card, and our welcome letter. For more information about the contents and where I got the bags, see my Planning Bio.
I don’t usually wear much makeup so I didn’t want to look overdone. My stylist did a perfect job and I loved the small little twists she put in my hair on the side. The updo was a little "bigger" than what I had wanted so she was able to make it a little smaller and it turned out perfectly on my wedding day! I would definitely recommend doing a trial before your wedding, even if you can’t do it until the last minute because you’re having a DW. I did mine the day before the wedding and was so glad I did (plus it was great because then I was already all dolled up for the rehearsal dinner!) It gave me a lot more peace of mind on my wedding day so I could just sit there and relax while she worked on me instead of being anxious the whole time about how it would turn out! (which is kind of how I felt during the entire trial until she finished!)
It’s always hard to decide who to invite to the RD since typically, all OOT guests are invited but almost all your DW guests are OOT! I left the RD up to DH to plan, and since he wanted to splurge on a nice restaurant to say "thank you" to our wedding party, we decided only to invite our immediate families and the wedding party, plus a few very close family friends. We were both very happy we decided to keep it as a small, intimate gathering, especially since we were able to spend time with the rest of our guests during the wedding reception the next day.
I am a total food connoisseur so here are pics of our yummy entrees! Guests had a choice of lobster or duck.
Instead of getting traditional bride and groom gifts for each other, we decided it would be more meaningful to give cards to each other, to be read a few moments before the ceremony. Here’s a picture my new SIL caught of my DH composing his card to me :o)
And then of course all of the images on CDs.
I chose this dress because I love the details on the back of
it!!! Reading our cards to each other before the ceremony… Lining up for the processional… Waiting for the ceremony to begin… Me sneaking a peak around the corner to see my love! Blessing of the Hands Exchange of Vows You may now kiss the bride!
It was so fun running down the beach in a wedding
gown with my new husband! DH's favorite picture!
My adorable grandparents! All the ladies in my family (Grandma, Mom, aunts) decided to wear the traditional Vietnamese dress or "Ao Dai" to our wedding. I also changed into one for part of the reception. While the ao dai is commonly worn from day to day in Vietnam, as well as for special occasions, the outer robe and headpiece are what the bride traditionally wears. It was a special way to incorporate part of my culture into the wedding.
DIY "Bride" Tank: Iron-on rhinestones were purchased from AC Moore. Very simple to do, and saves you a lot of money!
My bouquet – pink cymbidium orchids with emerald green and crème roses, wrapped in ivory satin ribbon and pearl pins.
Bridesmaids bouquets – green cymbidium orchids with vendela crème roses, wrapped in pink satin ribbon and pearl pins.
Groom’s boutonniere – pink cymbidium orchid with crème spray roses
Groomsmen’s boutonnieres – green cymbidium orchid with crème spray roses
Fathers’ boutonnieres – single pink cymbidium orchid
Mothers and Sister-in-Law – Sweet Leilani leis
Grandfather and brother – Cigar leis
Grandmother – White dendrobium orchid lei entwined with Pink Rose Bud Lei
I wore a fresh pink cymbidium orchid in my hair (it was easily secured with just two bobby pins). Some flowers are pretty fragile and wilt quickly, but cymbidium orchids are hardy. It stayed fresh all day and all night.
My bridesmaids wore white cymbidium orchids that had pink throats.
The gazebo was beautifully decorated with clusters of pink and green cymbidium orchids and cream roses, all hanging from ivory chiffon ribbon that was interspersed with green dendrobium orchids.
We also had an aisle runner that was decorated with scattered pink and crème rose petals along each side.
The aisle seats were decorated with a green cymbidium orchid and crème rose, tied with ivory and pink satin ribbon. Tied to these seats were also sage petal cones that I created with the leftover cardstock I had from the invitations.
We incorporated the engagement ring into the ceremony. I wore it on my left hand as I walked down the aisle (it won’t fit on my right hand anyway). I then discreetly removed the ring and handed it to my MOH when I handed my bouquet over to her. After the wedding band had been placed on my finger during the ring exchange, we had the minister say this: The engagement ring is a symbol of promise and intention. Now the intention is realized and the promise fulfilled. Please place your engagement ring on Jaime’s finger over her wedding band to symbolize that the love that brought you together will always protect and sustain your marriage.
Instead of a traditional guestbook, we had our guests sign fabric squares that were pieced together into a beautiful quilt. You can also see in this picture the DIY paper weights I created with some tulle, sea glass, shells, and ribbon. (Pictures of the finished quilt will be added during the next bio update…)
We named our tables after the “Fruits of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23). More info and pics are in my planning bio.
Cymbidium orchid
Dendrobium orchid Chair Décor
The flowers hanging from the gazebo were taken down and tied in with the sashes on the chair covers.
We also distinguished the wedding party and immediate family members and grandparents by tying ivory and pink satin ribbons with the sashes on the chair covers. (non-prof pic)
I had heard stories about how the oils in buttercream can seep through certain types of ribbon (depending on what type of fabric it is), making it look oily or greasy. Our baker was not able to find ribbon in this color in the type of material that wouldn’t soak up the oils in the buttercream, so we opted to go with a fondant ribbon instead. The cake was also decorated with fresh green cymbidium orchids.
The cake server set was decorated with green cymbidium orchids tied with pink and white organza ribbon.
Oh, and please excuse the poor picture quality, these are scanned images.
We were announced and came out on the balcony, walked down the staircases on each side separately, and then met again in the middle downstairs and kissed :o)
The table name cards from the wedding were re-used for our
AHR. They were just framed and then placed around the food stations. This was the only pic I could find of the tables
(it’s a non-professional pic). Half the tables had chairs
with sage sashes and the others had chairs with pink sashes! The centerpieces were bowls filled with floating candles with rose petals sprinkled around them.
These were the crossword puzzles I put in our OOT bags. We
printed out some more for the AHR and guests enjoyed filling them out
:o) The favor table. These were placed near the exit but I think a
lot of people didn’t figure out that they were favors. We
probably should have placed them at the tables instead. My MIL made
them though and they were soooo good! Chocolate mocha roughs
(chocolate, coffee, and coconut!) We had a harp for the first half of the reception and then a
string quartet for the second half.
DH’s extended family. Most of them came from Eastern
TN. DH’s sweet mema.
Richard and Elaine with my MIL and FIL. They are dear family
friends. Elaine did the majority of the catering for our reception,
bless her heart!! She and my MIL planned the entire AHR for us! We were
so grateful :o)
Mr. and Mrs. Presley :o)
And here I’m wearing the traditional Vietnamese
dress or Ao Dai again! The first pic is from the professional
photographer, the second is a non-professional pic.
Click here to see additional Tahiti pictures in our shutterfly album. We started off in Moorea where we stayed 3 nights at the Sheraton Moorea.
Look at how well camouflaged this guy is!

Get a certified marriage license first - Call the office where your license was filed to get copies (it must have a raised seal). Hawaii Knotties go here to download the request forms. Next on your list should be getting a new SS card and driver's license. Social Security Forms - Download and fill out these forms, or contact the Social Security Administration at (800) 772-1213. Your new card will be free -- if you're contacted by a company that claims to do this for a fee, don't buy it. These companies have nothing to do with the SSA and should be reported to authorities. Driver's License - Visit the DMV, which requires you to make a personal appearance (read: wait in line). Bring a book and every form of identification you can lay your hands on. No matter what, do not forget your certified marriage license. Once you have a SS card and driver's license in your married name, other changes should be fairly easy. USPS Change of Address Request If it has been less than a year since your Passport was issued, click here to download and submit the DS-5504 form to change your name. If it has been more than one year since your Passport was issued, click here to download and submit the DS-82 renewal application (you will have to pay all applicable renewal fees).
