About our wedding:

THE THEME & COLORS

Evergreen Union – as in always fresh, going strong, sturdy and healthy – all those good things describe our relationship and shaped the theme. It doesn’t hurt that we live in the evergreen state! Our colors are chocolate brown, sour apple green, ivory and pink, with heavy gold and bronze accents. Here is the basic monogram we're using...

THE FESTIVITIES

We skipped the renewal of vows (we eloped, penniless, seven years ago) and moved right to the PAH-TAY and reception part. DH and I agree, you snooze, you lose, our vows will only happen once in a lifetime. Our daughter, who's already ONE YEAR old (I can't believe it!), was Christened the day after our party down by the beach (while family and friends are in town). To follow that, a friendly barbecue and farewell brunch. It was a total blast!!

MY RINGS

I love my rings (white gold)! The ones I wear now (right) are dirty as all heck and not even close to my original wedding band (left). The old one is way too big for me now and had no bling whatsoever but I still have it for sentimental reasons. DH sometimes wears it as a pinky ring!

THE ATTIRE

Mom's making me this fab 50's ball gown in silk shantung with a matching bolero jacket. Pics coming soon! DH is wearing this brown suit with a silk vest to match my dress and a coordinating tie. I found the necklace and bracelet at Macy's. The Mikimoto earings were a Christmas gift from DH. I'm crossing my fingers that I can win these shoes on EBay!!

NOW THE UPDATE - pics of the real dress complete with jewels below, along with my FINE A$$ HUSBAND in his suit! Yep, I'm a lucky girl!

THE HAIR & MAKEUP

I really love the second one from the end, almost. Although I like the pin I'm thinking I'll just get a really nice silk gardenia or rose.

UPDATE - Here's a pic of the real do in action! Sorry, I don't have a clean pic of the hair comb yet...

THE INVITATIONS

Here are our invites. I decided to go with a striped grosgrain ribbon for the bellyband and a bronze pocketfold from My Gatsby. The envelopes are sour apple green with espresso return addresses. I got the map from Moments of Color and the background scene from creatas.com. I also used Domtar feltweave textured paper in the natural color. I love PageMaker!

For those still planning, here's a peak at the invites pre-printing and assembly...

DIY Templates

So many people request invite templates, I thought I'd make one based on the invites I designed and post it for all to share. These templates are for a 5.75" square pocketfold invite (same dimensions as the Envelopments brand) with up to three enclosures and an RSVP postcard. You can add a backing layer cut to 5.5" square or 5.75" square. The entire pocketfold/insert set will fit in a single 6" square envelope or a 6" inner and 6.5" outer envelope set. The templates are also laid out to fit standard legal size paper or cardstock.

For non-savvy computer users, right click on the template image an save it to your desktop. Open a Word document and insert the image. Then you'll be able to enlarge it to the size you need. OR, just take the measurements below and make text boxes in a Word file the size you need them to be.

The invite components measure as follows:

Invitation 5.375" square
Maps and Directions 5.375" square
Accommodations 5.375”w x 4.75”h
Schedule of Events 5.375”w x 4.125”h
RSVP 5.375”w x 3.5”h

THE FAVORS & DECOR

EASY DIY favors
I'd planned to use a kraft pillow box with forest green ribbon and a gold wax seal or a corrugated treasure box with forest ribbon, ivory tag and gold key (spraypainted) but ran out of motivation! Instead, I bought cheap cellophane bags on EBay and will fill them with candy or trail mix. I printed these labels on our inkjet at home. The sample below was made with some candy DH had stashed in the kitchen but you get the idea...

UPDATE - A pic of the HUGELY successful candy and kids table are also below. Within 10 minutes the kids were working puzzles and playing with silly putty at their table!!

DIY Silk Centerpieces
I purchased plastic urns for each table and painted them with a real rust finish to get the aged look I wanted, then rubbed on a little gold for highlights. I just used cheap Wal-mart silks, except for the amaranthus and orchids.

DIY OOT Bags
I just finished my OOT bags. I found canvas bags online at Cheaptotes.com, dyed them sage green and then ironed on our event logo. Each is closed with a gold ribbon and personalized welcome/thank you note embossed with our monogram. The bag's color is more accurate in the first photo.

DIY Banners
Last up - I made these banners and signs to display in the hall and greet guests as they enter but I've sort of changed my mind about using them all. I may only use the green and pink ones and make a new welcome banner. Kinko's printed them and did the matte lamination. I also plan to do a seating chart/room map.

THE LOCATION

A totally affordable beachside location – Fort Worden State Park. They filmed an officer and a gentleman here many years ago. It's beautiful, scenic (right on the water) and a great getaway destination for the locals and out-of-towners alike! Here are just some of the pictures I took on a recent site visit.

THE CAKE

The pic (Martha Stewart transferware) says it all! I made a wooden cake stand to simulate the one here. Our cake will be a buttery sour cream pound cake with pecans, a rum soak and caramel filling. It’s iced in white chocolate creem cheese and finished with marzipan (for than nice beige look) and chocolate piping/scrollwork. I chose to eliminate the bottom two layers of this cake and add a chocolate sheet cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate cream cheese icing, yum!! You always have to have something for those with nut allergies! Many thanks to Methia's Sweet Creations in Kingston!!

THIS IS THE ACTUAL CAKE!! Can you believe it? It looks almost exactly like the inspiration design!

VENDOR REVIEWS

CATERING – Fort Worden State Park Guest Services
Food B; Service A+++++++
I cannot rate the catering staff at the Commons high enough! Although the food was so-so for me (not unlike most catered dinners) the service was FANTASTIC! The servers frequently came by the head table to refresh our glasses and they were great about holding dinner for a ½ hour ‘cause my family is NEVER on time!!! Then again, that could be why the food was so-so. I arrived on site at 8 am to supervise the set-up. The staff were EXTREMELY helpful, going so far as to supply a banner stand and extra tea light candle holders. By the end of the night, they were dancing behind the bar right along with my family and just went on and on about what a fun group we had.

LOCATION - Fort Worden State Park
A++++++++++++++++++++++++
Looking for amazing historic place shots on a tight budget?? Look no further! I was going for a totally classic 50’s look and got just what I wanted. I can’t wait for the rest of the photos to come in!

BAKER – Methia’s Sweet Creations in Kingston A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Did you SEE the cake in my bio?? I wasn’t there when Methia set it up but when I saw it I was stunned. Not a flaw in sight!! It was absolutely GORGEOUS and tasted fantastic!

DJ – Dance Yer Socks Off (DJ Dave) A+++++++++++++++++
By far the best deal of my night, DJ Dave is a bargain! He’s a music teacher by day and a DJ by night but he was DEAD ON with his music choices. We gave him a list of recommendations and he stuck with our mood/genre just like we wanted. The dance floor was ALWAYS occupied and I had to give my cousins the boot at 11:30pm! Not only that, but DJ Dave was on time, courteous and friendly to all the guests, even the kids. Best of all, non-stop music from 6pm to 11:30 pm cost me $350 including a tip! WOO HOO!!

Flowers – DIY silks from Wal-Mart (PIB)
These turned out amazing too! Got tons of compliments on them so never fear, silk is a wonderful option for the budget-conscious bride!

Dress – Custom made by mom from a 1953 pattern
It turned out EXACTLY how I wanted! At first I wanted a little darker gold but the ivory was awesome! She made me a little red and gold handbag too, YEAH MOM!!
