Charlie wanted a cake to match the special cake topper they planned on using. The wedding cake was a traditional round, 5-tiered cake. Made with buttercream frosting and alternating layers of raspberry and white cake, with raspberry filling, the cake was decorated with a fondant ivy pattern dusted in gold. The cake topper was used on Char's grandparents' wedding cake in 1954 and her parents' cake in 1983 and even though it had gained a few "character marks" along the way, Charlie never doubted that she wanted it to sit atop her cake as well! Rob and Charlie: Wedding on the Kansas Plains

I love the holiday season and wanted to tie that theme in to our wedding, without it overtaking the wedding. We opted for simple gold dupioni silk bridesmaids dresses, but then went for a punch of color with the flowers. The bridesmaids bouquets were made up of black magic calla lilies (which are a deep shade of red), red roses, and a mixture of red and green hypericum berries to tie in Christmas. Charlie's bouquet was a mixture of sierra roses, white roses, white calla lilies, stephanotis, green hypericum berries, and golden stalks of wheat, in memory of her grandfather, "Poppy", who was a small town Kansas doctor and farmer for over 50 years. In keeping with the classic theme of their wedding, Charlie and Rob opted to have eco-friendly rice thrown as the exited the church. Charlie's mother spent hours making clay and glass beads using one of the couples engagements pictures to cinch the bags together. Then the tied on a tag designed by the same person who made their invitations and programs to tie everything together! Rob and Charlie were married in the church Charlie grew up in, which also happened to be the same church his parents were married in 32 years earlier! The couple had a large wedding party made up of siblings, cousins, and best friends. They had the bridal party stand in couples (with the exception of the maid of honor and best man)to create a clean, cohesive look. originally worried about the historic church's red carpet...it ended up being a wonderful accent to the gold dresses and Christmas greenery! Charlie and her wedding party got ready at her parents' house, the house she grew up in. The setting was so comfortable and relaxed. In a house full of so many wonderful memories already, it was fun to add this wonderful day to the mix. This photo is taken in front of her parents' bedroom right after her mother and sister helped her get her wedding dress on.

This photo was taken outside of Prairie Dunes Country Club, where Charlie and Rob had their reception. Charlie is wearing her grandmother's wedding veil, which after 48 years of sitting in the original box it came in had aged to the pefect shade of ivory! :)

Charlie's bouquet turned out even better than she ever could have hoped for! It was made up of white calla lilies, blush roses, white roses, stephanotis accented with tiny champagne colored pins, green hypericum, and her favorite part, stalks of wheat. Charlie requested the wheat stalks in memory of her "Poppy." Her grandpa was a small town doctor in Western Kansas, who farmed because he truly enjoyed it. He taught his eight grandkids all about the various crops on the many roadtrips to and from Western Kansas and Hutchinson. There was no better way to honor him on a day he was so missed.
