ABOUT MARK
Mark was born in Osseo, WI, but later moved to Lake Mills in 1990, where he would graduate high school from. He went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in Interarts and Technology. As you can guess by that, he likes being creative in all sorts of different genres, writing, taking pictures, but mostly likes the music genre... all of these end up on a computer, somehow, which continues developing, or is completed.
HOW WE MET
Well, needless to say, Mark wasn't a person I thought I would end up dating, let alone marry. He and I met at Madison Newspapers. Though my love doesn't remember the next tid bit about how we first met, it is where everything began. The first time I met Mark was at work. He wasn't the most pleasant to me when I asked for help. I was new to the department, and the day we met, was the first time I needed help from his department. Mark gave me this look of "Do I really need to be wasting my time ?" Well...after that encounter, I thought, "I don't need that sort ot attitude." So when I needed help, I went to his co-workers. After a couple of months of working at the paper, a mutual friend of ours (Angie Fadness) decided to leave the company. We had a going away party for her at Pedro's. Mark and I sat kiddy corner from each other at the dinner table. There wasn't much conversation between him and I (actually I don't recall any) until, we received our bills for dinner and I saw Mark sign both the restaurant copy and his copy. And of course, I couldn't pass up saying, "You know, you don't have to sign your copy." Mark soon turned blotchy red (which is a dead giveaway that he is embarrassed). Well, that is where the attraction began. He and I played darts that night and then we walked out together....and that is. The next day I saw him and he told me I looked nice. That was the extent of conversations between him and I at work. After a few weeks, I decided it would be nice if he would go with me to our Holiday Party. So I got up the nerve...and "asked out his answering machine". Yes that is right, I am not as outgoing as many would think. Well he thought that was just nuts, so he returned my call and leaving a message on my machine not answering my question and to have me call him back. All the time I was listening to him talk to my answering machine...tee-hee!! I did call him back and he eventually said yes. That first date was pretty crazy. My friends were trying to push us together on the dance floor...which was quite embarrassing. After the Holiday Pary, we hung out every now and then, but the sparks flew a night that Mark came and picked me up from down town after a few too many drinks with friends. On the drive home, it was then, with my reflection in the window, that he knew, as did I.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
March 10, 2001
HOW IT HAPPENED
The engagement was a complete shock. Mark had thrown me off any trail that he had left. The night before he had proposed, Mark asked me if I thought we were communicating enough. WHAT??? Talk about a break up question. I told him yes and went to bed. The next day I went shopping with a friend. All day I was worried to come home to find him wanting out of our relationship. I finally arrived home, to find Mark giddy...almost as if he had been drinking (which we all know he doesn't drink). I even asked him if he had been drinking. He just laughed and said no. All could do is shake my head and page through the paper to find a new apartment for when our lease ran out. While I paging through the paper, Mark yelled from the back room "did you like the ring that we had seen earlier? They gave me a ring sizer to make sure what size you are." I thought "what?? They don't give out those big key chains of rings to people to take home...he is crazy.!" And then when I put down the paper, he was on one knee, with the ring we had looked at before, proposing. Again, I was completely shocked!! I went from surely believing he was breaking up with me to being engaged!! I was so happy!. I cried, I laughed. I asked him if he was for real. Come to find out, he was going to propose the following weekend, but he just couldn't wait!!! He told no one. We spent most of the night calling family and loved ones about the wonderful news!!!
