Newlyweds for 747 days!
HOW WE MET
We met through a set-up/blind group date instigated by our good friends Bill and Laurel in Santa Fe. They had been working on getting us together for a while, but I was shy and nervous about it, and Martin was traveling a bit through work. When we finally met, we immediately hit it off and talked throughout the night about everything under the sun. I definitely liked him right away, and I knew he liked me when he showed up at my house later that week at 9pm in his Tai Kwon Do outfit asking me to dinner…. he had left his cell phone at work and didn’t want to wait any longer to see me or talk to me. We have been inseparable ever since.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED

HOW IT HAPPENED
We were on Kay and Noel Harvey's gorgeous boat, "Santiago" in Seattle for (I thought) a casual dinner party. We were relaxing, sipping yummy pomegranate mojitos and talking with Noel, Kay, Daniel & Sandy when Noel said that she'd better take us out in the dingy for a ride into Puget Sound before it got too late. Noel captained the dingy, and we enjoyed the views, the turning sky, and took massive amounts of photos (now I know why he remembered the camera - we never remember!). When we returned to the boat, Noel said she needed to make a quick call in private so Martin and I walked through the door to let Daniel and Sandy know that she would be right back for them… but, to my surprise, no one was in the boat. As Martin headed towards the back of the boat, I decided (surprise, surprise) to pour another yummy drink, and was thinking they would be back shortly. When I turned towards Martin, he had one of his arms curled up behind his back.... that is about the time I started to think something was up and a strange feeling came over me. Instead of fainting, I asked him what he was holding behind is back and he brought out the box, opened it, and told me he had a question for me…. would I marry him? My heart must have stopped for a moment and then sped up like crazy… of course, I said, “yes!” We laughed, we kissed, we embraced - all that mushy stuff - and then he handed me the box. Within the box were a tiny champagne bottle and a little bouquet just small enough to fit inside. When I asked about them he told me that possibly champagne and dahlias were waiting for me/us upstairs. We went outside and headed upstairs where we sipped champagne, toasted to our future, and I think we both started to regain consciousness. We watched the most gorgeous sunset... he even brought a CD of my favorite music that he had put together for the evening. The gang reappeared, all together again, in the dingy, and we feasted on amazing goodies - including fresh Salmon that Noel caught from the wild and even my favorite comfort food, gourmet Mac 'n Cheese. I couldn't ask for a more perfect evening.
