Newlyweds for 200 days!
ABOUT AMY
I am the Associate Director for the Office of Student Leadership at Liberty University. Moreover, my life is devoted to Jesus Christ and my heart's passion is to know Him. I love to study and to teach His Word so others can understand and see their need for Jesus. I am a lifelong learner in the classroom of life and I desire to partner with my soon-to-be husband in telling others about God.
After many years of waiting and preparing for the man God has for me, I am so excited to step into the role of a wife. Even more, I am excited to learn what it means to live the design God has set forth in scripture concerning the marriage relationship between a man and a woman.
ABOUT DEREK
Derek is a man who loves God, loves the things of God, and loves to learn about God. He graduated with his MBA last year and has recently started a business with a friend called Cornerstone Commercial Services. In addition, his heart's passion is to give a defense for the gospel to those who question, to give the evidence of God to those who refute, and to give the answer to Life to those who wonder. He will be going to graduate school in the fall to study further the topics of Philosophy and Apologetics. He desires is to see the name of Jesus Christ exalted and for the unbelieving to believe.
HOW WE MET
We met through our close friends Shawn and Cara George. Derek and I were both in their wedding and would hang out a lot in groups, we but didn't start to talk and hang out one-on-one until Christmas time '06 (about a year after we officially met). Derek took the initiative in every way to get to know me. He even asked my dad for permission to date me before he officially asked me. He did it right by taking the lead from day one!
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED

HOW IT HAPPENED
He completely surprised me! He had been telling me for weeks that due to finances and timing he didn't think engagement could happen until late winter, early spring and kept referring to a fall 08 wedding. I was fine with that, except with my job being at a University, my time would not be as flexible as it would be in the summer. Wanting to be understanding, I told him I would make it work if that is what we had to do. He then told me that he was going to go with my dad after Christmas to see if there were some good deals on rings. So in my mind...he had no ring.
THEN Christmas morning came...after we finished opening up presents from my parents Derek and I exchanged with each other. I went first and he went second. The last gift he gave me was a book titled "Real Love in Marriage". I opened up to the front flap where he had written an incredible note to me expressing his love, his committment to me and our relationship, and his prayers for our future marriage.
At the bottom of the page it said for me 'flip over about 5 pages" When I did it had a piece of black felt covering the middle of the page. Above it he wrote, "To Unveil the mystery you must look into my eyes and wait for permission to receive surprise. Don't open to soon, don't open to fast for surely the surprise will be long to last."
As I looked up at him, he got down on one knee, grabbed my hand and told me how much loved me and if I would allow him he would love to spend the rest of his life with me...he then told me to lift up the piece of felt.
When I did, there in the middle of the book, was my beautiful ring...(he had glued the pages together and cut out the center of the book and laid the ring in there)
He then said, "Amy will you marry me"
I said, "YES!"
