Newlyweds for 1226 days!
ABOUT BETH
I was born in New Haven, CT in 1957, and grew up outside Philadelphia, PA. I am the middle of three girls. I have one nephew, and my Dad is still living. I've traveled to all 50 states and probably more than 20 countries. When we were kids, we traveled in Europe for six months and later I spent an entire summer in Australia. I am a wandering spirit that likes to travel way more than work! Since being graduated from Drexel Univ in Philadelphia in 1981, I've lived in many places, including the Philadelphia area, the San Francisco area, the Atlanta area and now finally the Denver area.
I've worked in two major job types in my lifetime; bookkeeping/accounting and restaurant software support. About 20 years ago, I was the accounting manager for the world-famous (not) Philadelphia Stars Football Club in the USFL. That was one of my brushes with greatness.
In 1996, I left Atlanta and moved to Denver for what was supposed to be a 3-month contract job at the corporate offices for Boston Market. I ended staying at that company for over six years. That's where I met Shad. After leaving Boston Market, I went back into contracting. For most of 2003, I was a contractor at DisneyWorld, which completely fed my Disneyana obsession. And then I returned to South Florida to work at a small software company in Delray Beach for seven months. After a year and a half of commuting to Florida, I needed to come back home to Denver and settle down. Conveniently, Shad proposed, making the reasons to come back to Denver full time all the better.
Currently I am the Support Services (Store Help Desk and IT QA) manager for New World Restaurant Group, which is the parent company of Einstein Bros Bagels and Noahs New York Bagels. I have worked for software companies that specialize in restaurant software and for corporate offices of restaurant chains for nearly the last 18 years. I've never worked in a restaurant but I am passionate about working in IT for restaurants.
My obsessions and collections include traveling anywhere, driving trips, DisneyWorld, Key West, Calla Lilies, eBay, Grumpy from Snow White, anything chocolate and anything emerald green (including the color of my contacts).
ABOUT SHAD
I grew up in the great state of Wyoming (although I somehow was born in Spearfish SD), mainly in Glendo, "Heart of the Platte". I am the oldest of three boys, amd I still have both my parents (although I recently lost the last grandparent) and one niece and another niece-or-nephew on the way. I grew up on a cattle ranch in my high school years, the ranch in Glendo where my parents and one brother are still.
I was graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1991, with a degree in Computer Science. After graduating, I got a computer support job at Sykes in Sterling, Colorado. I lived and worked there for five years before leaving for the big city of Denver. I worked on the Store Help Desk at Boston Market for a couple of years before being promoted into a programming job. However, I laid off from there in 2003 and found a job at RegOnline in Boulder, Colorado, doing computer support again at a really kick-ass small dot.com (but a good dot.com!). I love working for a small company but the commute is long and treacherous. "Pray for me, I drive 93"
My obsessions and collections include ANYTHING Little Mermaid related (including my Ariel tattoo), bobbleheads, comic books, Japanese Anime, pins for pin trading (a habit picked up after our first visit to Disneyland), Jelly Bellies and anything deep purple. I also love travel, now that Beth has shown me how. My cattle brand is a flying Q: ^Q^

HOW WE MET
Beth writes: We met working at the Boston Market Support Center (corporate office). We were friends for a long time before we started dating. Shad's boss loved to treat us to dinner at the local Outback and always encouraged company. We hung around together enough as a group that eventually Shad and I found out that we liked similiar things and started doing things together just the two of us.
Although it didn't count at the time, probably our first real date was a hilarious trip up into the mountains to go to an opera in Central City, CO. We started up Interstate 70 in his old car and it just started overheating like crazy. We were already running late, and Shad was nervous about being alone with me, but we had no choice to go back down the mountain and get my car. Which also was a questionable vehicle to take up into the mountains but we made it. Barely. We got to to the opera with about 2 minutes to spare...
Between then and the time we officially began dating some 8 months later, the two of us probably went out to dinner casually after work at least 10 times. Shad had NO idea that I was starting to get a crush on him. He was stunned when I sent him an email at work in April 2000 suggesting that we consider taking our friendship to another level... Everything worked out great and we've been living together for almost three years now.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
May 16, 2004
HOW IT HAPPENED
We got engaged in the Secret Garden gift shop of the Flamingo Gardens Botanical Gardens in Davie, FL.
Beth writes: Shad flew down to South Florida for a quick weekend visit about two weeks before my contractor job finished up in May 2004. Later I found out that Shad had planned to propose in the orange groves at a different park (Knollwood Groves) on that day, but when we got there it was closed on Sundays! Shad was really bummed and I didn't know why.
With a few minutes to spare before Shad's plane home to Denver from Ft Lauderdale, we stopped by the Flamingo Gardens. We didn't really have enough time to visit the Gardens, and I didn't think we should pay the $12 apiece to go in for a few minutes (although if I knew then what I know now about that day's plans... well maybe we would have gone into the Gardens). So we wandered around the gift shop for awhile and finally Shad was so antsy that he went off for a moment on his own (to scout locations), then made me follow him into the garden shop. He proposed to me out in the garden of the shop, in the back, near a big swing... No down on bended knee and no one else around, which is just how I wanted it. The first thing I said when I saw the ring? 'Can we afford this?'... How unromantic! It's a beautiful ring from a wonderful man.
