Newlyweds for 542 days!
ABOUT GLEN
Hello I am Glen Rohan Thaxton and yes I'm the luckiest man in the universe. I am a 25 year old do-it-yourself kind of person, who loves to meet and work with new people. The canoe and cabin rental gives me this opportunity, plus the ability to be outside all day (Use Sun Screen and LOTS of it). I have both my parents Jim and Ann Thaxton to thank for giving me life and for building a business that I am ready to take to the next level. I am greatly looking forward to starting my new career in the paddle sports industry. It must be in my blood, because it wasn't in my college major. On a plus note I am my own tech support and I do use the knowledge I learned every day. When the canoeing season is over it’s time switch gears and start working www.gopaddle.com. Though gopaddle.com I have the opportunity to talk with people like myself who do exactly the same thing I did all season. It feels good to have someone to relate with, and that is one of a million things that I love about Barbara. She is truly full light and love and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life in the light and surrounded the love. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the wedding to witness her beauty and radiant energy for yourself.
ABOUT BARBARA
Hello I am Barbara Marie Rorer and I grew up thirty minutes south of Glen in the town of Cynthiana. With the help and support of my two loving parent Joe and Lona Rorer I was able to graduate from Eastern Kentucky University last summer. I graduated with an elementary education degree certified K-5 and immediately found a teaching position right across the street from Thaxton’s Canoe & Cabin business in Butler Ky. I am one of Northern Elementary preschool teachers who has over 34 of the most precious 3 to 5 year olds divided up into A.M. and P.M. classes. Plus I am doing my K-TIP this year and also getting certification in preschool all at the same time, and did I mention that I am getting married. With all that has been going on I haven’t found the time to dance, which is something that has been a part of my whole life. I love everything about dancing, from taking dance lesson, to giving lesson, and performing on stage (and that is how I first meet Glen at KRT). The good news is that I managed to talk my fiancé into taking dance lesson before the wedding. I look forward to seeing you at the wedding where my fiancé will be sharing his new dance moves.
HOW WE MET
AWE it was 1998 the summer of “Love” actually the summer of “Recovery”. The little town of Falmouth was nearly wiped off the map by a 500 year flood in March of 1997 a year and few months prier to “HELLO DOLLY”. I was looking for a change after witnessing nature’s destruction first hand and seeing my family lose almost everything they had worked for. Though this change I answered the call for laborers for hire doing set construction for Hello Dolly at Kincaid Regional Theater. Theater people are the greatest people to be around, on and off stage. Plus the work that they do and accomplish in the short amount of time that they have to do it in amazed me. Do you remember the saying, “right place at the right time”? Well I was there; ready and willing to put my foot in the door. The light board operator came in my first day and quite a week before the show was to open. I walked up to the artist and tech director and offered my services. They introduced me to Joan a lighting designer from Colorado who gave me a crash course in lighting 101 and direct orders to just hit the go button when told. Day one of working with Joan in the crows nest, I made a discovery while watching the actors and actress role in. There stood Barbara talking to her friend Heidi, and became so love struck that I forgot who I was and what I was doing. This was enough to get Joan attention, to where he said, “Watch this”. He went down stairs and proceeded to introduce himself to Barb and Heidi. I was pretty jealous seeing how easily Joan was able to strike up conversation with not just one girl but two at the same time. I left the crow nest to for drink and that is where I ran into my future mother in-law. After meeting Lona I soon learned Barbara’s name, age, boyfriend status, and that my word cooperation per minute will have to double. Because Lona and Barb are the fast talkers I have ever meet, and when they get together it as if they are speaking there own language. Barbara and I became good friends that summer, plus her parents took me in as one of there own; the way they always do because they loving and friendly people. We stayed in touch though the summers at KRT until collage came along, and then I found my self not even receiving those yearly catch up phone calls (It takes two to converse, so I’ll take half of the blame). Then three years later about two weeks before Halloween, I found a message with Barb’s phone number. She had called to invite me to see Loin King on Broadway in Louisville. I at that point I knew opportunity was knocking on my door, and that everything that I had wished for was following suite, because of the secret.
As Paul Harvey would say it, “Now you know the rest of the story”.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
December 24, 2006
HOW IT HAPPENED
It happed on the Beach of Captive Island just outside of Fort Myers Florida, during Barbara’s winter vacation form school. This was our first vacation that we had ever been on together. It had rained and was cold the first few days we where there. Finally the weather broke that Christmas Eve of 2006 and we decided to go to the beach to watch the sun set. As the sun was drawing closer to the water, making the ocean look as thought it was getting ready to catch on fire? I said, “That sure is a beautiful sunset” and replied, “Yes it is”. Then I said, “Do you know what would be better than this sunset”, she ask, “what that?” this is where I got down on one knee with ring in hand and said, “that if we could spend all of our sunset together”. With tears in her eyes and the world’s biggest smile on her face she said, “YES”.
