KEMMOREE FRAME & VINCENT DUNCOMBE OCTOBER 14, 2007 Newlyweds for 310 days! ABOUT KEMMOREE I was born in the beautiful island of Jamaica. I am the only girl in my family and I have three brothers. I am also the youngest so you know I am special! I have been a Seventh-day Adventist Christian almost all my life, I love the Lord and He loves me. I am a very outgoing person, I love to spend time with friends and love to socialize. I enjoy cooking (most people don’t, thought I would mention that). My favorite food is my country’s national dish; ackee and saltfish with fried dumpling. My favorite color is green. I love a good joke and I love to smile, this is one of my strongest characteristics, most people who have met me will not remember my name but they often say that they remember my smile.
I attended Mt. Alvernia High School at an early age. High school was one of my toughest times. I then moved to Northern Caribbean University and completed my studies there. During my years there I met some pretty interesting people and made a lot of friends, some of these people are still my close friends today, and my best college experience I must say was at NCU. Immediately after graduation I worked for a year at Northern Caribbean University. I went to Central Jamaica Conference to work as the Business Manager for the Port Maria High School, I think the Lord hand picked me for this school, my experience was a challenging one, but my walk with God got stronger while I was there. I really did not want to leave but after being there for three (3) years I decided to continue my studies at Andrews University where I completed my Master's Degree. After graduation I started a job in the Department of Student Financial Services at Andrews University, this is where I currently work. Another one my accomplishment to this point is getting married to someone I really love and who appreciates me for me.
ABOUT VINCENT Vincent was born in The Bahamas on the beautiful island of New Providence. Being the fifth child of Joan and Jeremiah Duncombe, he achieved perfect balance in his life from the very beginning having two sisters and two brothers. They were also encouraged by their parents to keep their lives balanced in all aspects, spiritual, physical and academic. As a result of this he remained very active in church activities, while excelling in academic studies at Bahamas Academy High School and becoming an outstanding track star at that school (Most of the credit for this must go to his dad who woke them up early in the morning before school to go running). After graduating from high school he enrolled at Northern Caribbean University where he joined his two older brothers and pursued a degree in Information Science. During this time he fell in love with computer programming and his colleagues were sure that he was destined to be an ace computer programmer. However, God had different plans for his life. After leaving his job at a bank where he worked after graduating from college, he enrolled at Andrews University to pursue a Master’s of Divinity degree. It was here, that we met and we are looking forward to spending the rest our life together.
Vincent is very kind, very caring and a good listener. He is very patient and that is a rare characteristic.
HOW WE MET Vincent and I met during registration. I was actually trying to help students in our lobby area during registration at AU when I walked over to him he was really reluctant at first, acting like he really did not think I could help him but then he “softened” up to my smile. I ask him to go ahead and log on to one of our computers to see if I could help him and when we got to the computer I ask him his name, when he told me I suddenly recognize his last name. I asked him if he was from the Bahamas and if he was related to Jeremiah Duncombe, he said yes it is his brother! I was surprised but happy since I have not spoken to Jeremiah in years so we immediately started talking about his brother and then I found out he went to NCU and I was even happier. Now at that moment we exchanged numbers and we became friends. During that period of time we never had any interest in each other . We enjoyed each others friendship. We started hanging out with another group of friends and we all got close. Well, Vincent and I became really good friends and then we went on road trips all the way to Atlanta, Detroit to name a few. By now I figured he liked me more than just friends and I liked him more than just friends but even then we never brought up the whole girlfriend/boyfriend thing. A lot of our friends assumed we were dating, but we weren’t.
Vincent and I have been on road trips, been through car accidents and many different difficulties in our lives and I guess we got closer with these situations. He ask me to be his girlfriend one cold December day and I said yes. I was really happy, since I was praying for a guy who would appreciate me for who I was and accept me with all my shortcomings. Since then we have had a lot of fun together, we enjoy each others company and we are growing in the Lord. I am happy we met, we laugh a lot and talk a lot (or I should say I talk a lot) he is my best friend and I like that.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED February 14, 2007 HOW IT HAPPENED It was a usual Tuesday for me. I got up, went to work and I was supposed to be heading to Detroit that evening to do a presentation at Peterson-Warren Academy. The weather was really bad, it was snowing a lot and we thought we would not make it back that night. I had called Vincent and I told him that I might not make it back that night since the weather was bad. On our drive to Peterson- Warren it was not so bad so we decided to head back home that same night. I called Vincent (since he keeps my car over night when it snows) to pick me up, he told me he could not pick me up and I should see if I could ask someone that was on this trip to drop me home, I said no problem and I came back to Berrien Springs and headed back home.
I got home around 1:00 am that morning and realized that something was up, there were candles and flowers in my apartment, but since Vincent had done this before I never put too much thought into it. I was surprise to see him there, I said to him what is going on and he said he had an early Valentines gift for me I said “Oh really because I did not get you anything yet” He then started playing a Luther Vandross CD the title of the song “Always and Forever” then I turned my back for a second and when I turned around there he was on his knees with a black Zale ring box in his hands, I started screaming and crying at the same time he was still giving his speech I did not hear much of it. I was so excited but since I was tired we had to say our good nights and he had to go back to the dorm. He really caught me off guard since I was thinking he was going to propose in May. Even to this day I am still excited and I will remain that way until we get married and even after. He is excited too.
