Newlyweds for 934 days!
ABOUT LISA
Lisa always wanted to be an opera singer but after 5 years singing in New York City and making about $5, she decided to go back to school to get an MBA. Marketing and music came together, and she's the General Manager for the Eugene Concert Choir. She still loves the Yankees, NY style pizza and all things fast-paced but being back on the West Coast suits her fine.
ABOUT CLARKE
Clarke spent the first part of his career in radio, starting as an air personality and most recently working as a Promotions Director. He is now employed by Shorewood Packaging as a Customer Service Representative on the Universal Home Video and Dreamworks accounts. (His company prints the inserts, covers and boxes that DVD's come in.) Clarke is an avid computer game player in his spare time and likes tooling around with his computer...in ways that would scare novice users! While he's not thrilled that Lisa is a Yankees fan, he loves that they both enjoy University of Portland (Clarke's alma mater) women's soccer. They see as many games together as they can in the fall.
HOW WE MET
Clarke and Lisa met on match.com. They had their first date at Newport Bay Restaurant in Salem, Oregon and the lunch almost turned to dinner! That night Lisa told her friend Jessica, "I think I just met the man I'm going to marry!" On the drive back to Eugene, Clarke, who was casually dating someone else at the time said, "Well this complicates things!"
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
October 8, 2005
HOW IT HAPPENED
Clarke sent Lisa four anonymous letters with pictures and riddles on them the days leading up to the proposal. The fifth letter had to be earned. Lisa had to beat Clarke at a chess game. After she checkmated Clarke, he handed her the letter and as she was opening it, he came around the table and got down on one knee and opened the little black box with the ring inside. Lisa said YES! Then there was a reservation waiting for them at the Campbell House, a 3-course dinner, a bouquet of flowers, chilled sparkling cider, and Clarke showed Lisa a CD presentation he had made of pictures capturing moments during their year and a half courtship. It was very romantic and will be a life-long memory.
