| Sunday Morning we left for Venice, Italy. We loved the old buildings and canals. The place where we stayed was a bed and breakfast inn owned by a smelly Italian man. Luckly he never came upstairs so our place smelled fine. The food was wonderful, and it seemed like even the cheapest wine tasted pretty good. We were there for 4 days. Most of the store and hotel owners spoke English in the city so we didn't have to shake our fists at anyone to communicate.

Next we took a train just past the border into Switzerland, where we picked up a car at the Hertz rental place. We were supposed to get a small, second-rate Euro-car, but unfortunately they were out of those, so they gave us a Mercedes instead - at no extra charge. We drove for 2 hours into Gimmelwald, Switzerland and stayed in a little cabin (a "chalet") on a mountaintop. There are no cars in this town and we had to abanadon our Mercedes and take a cable-car to get there. We got a great view of the Swiss Alps and were able to do a lot of hiking. Lots of sitting back and relaxing too - while listening to the cowbells. German is what they speak in this part of the Switzerland, so Paul was able to communicate for us. We were there for 5 nights.
Next we went to Geneva, Switzerland where French is the predominate language. Neither one of us speaks it so there was a lot of hand motions and sherrades going on. Luckily we were only there for a night and we flew out in the morning.
Last stop was Charleston, SC where we met up with the Kerns parents for 2 nights. They drove us back to Charlotte where we were greeted by wedding cake and lots of unopened presents!!! What a life!
