NANCY LINTAKOON & SIMEON KWAN NOVEMBER 24, 2007 Newlyweds for 279 days! WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED May 25, 2007 HOW IT HAPPENED

On May 25th, I flew to Philly and landed around 11:20pm. Simeon told me he was parking so I expected him at his usual spot. When he wasn't there, I called him and he told me to keep walking. At this point (knowing that we'd probably get engaged this weekend), I thought to myself..."please don't propose at the airport" - I'm uncomfortable being put on the spot in public settings...

Right before baggage claim, I see two of his roommates standing there wearing shades. One is holding a gerber daisy, the other a sign with "Nancy Lintakoon". They took me to the car, and in the back seat, another daisy & the first of many clues which led to different places around his house. The clues read:

Hope House where he lived in Kensington
Nancy, sorry I couldn't pick you up,
I hope you buy me the 600 dollar pup.
The next clue is at a place far far away,
Follow my companions and do not go astray.

Good Taste - restaurant across the street
Welcome to the Hope House,
Soon to be my lovely spouse.
The next clue lies at a place,
with more than a few good tastes.

front door
There are two pregnant women here,
and a guy who loves to give me beer.
Go back to the place from which you came,
Just past the creaky front door frame.

kitchen
You have now collected 4 of the clues,
if you quit now you will definitely lose.
Find the clue next to the canola,
Be careful in there, you might get Ebola.

basement
I made you something to munch on,
too bad you'll never see Jon Jon (cute kid we baby-sat),
There is a place with bird poo on the walls,
Go there and find the best clue of 'em all.

girls room
I'm glad I got to move out of this cave,
There are too many rules I cannot behave.
The next letter is in the estrogen room,
the hormone that makes your body go vroom.

sim's pseudo room
I haven't spent much time in this place,
It's not right for boys to see this space.
Please proceed to the room of sin,
Where many have made future kin.

quiet room
In this room I have spent many nights,
Your favorite Office character is Mr. Dwight.
The next clue is in a room so small,
It wouldn't even hold Mary and Paul (my parents).

upstairs kitchen
People like to do devotions in this place,
Hurry up there are others in this race!
There is another kitchen in this house,
Be careful, you may see a big mouse.

final clue
You have arrived at your final destination,
Piece together the letters to find my location.
If you are quick enough I may still be there,
If not, someone else may have something to wear... :)

I had some trouble unscrambling the letters, but with Annette's help, came up w/ Roof Access. I climbed the ladder to the roof, and as I stuck my head out, a motion behind me caused my head to turn. He was dressed up in a suit with a pink tie. He smiled and turned on the Christmas lights. From above, everything looked different...it made me cry. He played one of my favorite songs: "A Simple Song" by WangLeeHom and sang along.

He held me and we semi-swayed/danced. As the song finished, he told me he loved me for the first time and got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Crying again, I said yes.

We walked around the top of the roof, where he had pictures from our relationship in chronological order. We laid on this mattress, looking up at the stars. He told me to get up, saying it was really hot...he started unbuttoning his shirt and the next time I looked up, his tshirt said, "I'm marrying Nancy Lintakoon." He threw me mine, which says "I'm marrying Simeon Kwan" and on the back, "As of 5.25.2007." Clever :)

Thanks Simeon, I love you!

NANCY'S ATTENDANTS
Irene Chen , Maid Of Honor --

bestest-estest-friendest. We don't know how long we've been friends...so we always say for a year. We know each other from the many hours we've logged at HCC Youth Group. She used to be too cool for me, in the special book club they had... But eventually, she got kicked out and is now co-starting a rebel small group w/ Grace Tow. ...just kidding. We would have been roommates together at UT, but last minute I bailed on her and sent her to Singapore instead. She majored in music, minored in business, and has shown talent in violin and management. Because she forgave me, I'm making her my maid of honor (joke also). Irene, thanks for your constant friendship throughout the past 7 years (or so). Although it hasn't been the most consistent or easiest friendship, we've had many DTRs to make up for it. Thank you for caring for me and understanding me fully, for hanging out with my family (and marrying Boaz), helping me color-coordinate my mismatched outfits, having the same kind of humor, always being honest with me, for sorting through all the fishes in the sea, and for coming back from Singapore. I admire and trust you for your wisdom and your level-headed thinking...and your ability to predict the future (and warning me)! Thank you for your continual support throughout my relationship with Simeon, and being there for the whole process. Oh, and thanks for planning the wedding...hah.

Stephanie Liang , Bridesmaid --

roommate. Steph wasn't that popular at church, either. I think that's how we became friends. I used to think her AzN friends were really cool, also. We were friends in middle school, and I tried to meet up with her at Rice Summer School one year. In high school, we "grew apart" because of a boy...and every day I have to forgive her for it (joke). I became an Aggie because of her (and God), but she actually became a bigger Aggie than we both expected. We roomed together for the 3 years I was there, both majored in Accounting, made frequent trips to Austin, watched sappy movies and cried, IMed each other in the same room, and led a small group together. Her hobbies include sleeping and eating. Steph, please don't cry when you read this. I'm so thankful that I was able to room with you throughout college. Even though you weren't awake for half of it, the times that you were, I really value. I'm glad that we were so comfortable with each other, and were able to share our joys and pains (and your notes from class...) during those years. I admire your love for others and the friendships that you have built and maintained everywhere you go. You have the gift of helping others feel comfortable...and making people laugh at you - you are so funny. Thank you for making the effort to get to know Simeon.

Lina Hsieh , Bridesmaid --

dreamer. Lina lived in Clear Lake so I never saw her..now in Ft. Worth, so I might see her more. Not until we served together on Servant Team, did I really get to know her better. She always dreamed big. Once, she decided to have people rip off the dry/erase boards in the youth room and put up big wooden panels in their place. It was also her idea to cook the food for Grace & Jess's senior banquet that year - I think that turned out well, can't remember. We used to talk about dreaming big, what we would do with our careers and our lives - making it count. She went on to live our "UT dream (architecture)" and I was jealous when she made good friends there without us. Oh, she was also the one who challenged us to not hang out in our cliques at joint church events. Lina, I'm glad you made really good friends in college, have a heart for Greek ministry, and found a boy/man/guy that you're not uncomfortable to hug. You always make me laugh, too. I appreciate how you always thought through theoretical things with me about faith and life, and encouraged me to reach my dreams. I admire your understanding of values and convictions, your pursuit of what is good. Thank you for the way you care for me, and sorry the Simeon thing came out of no where! Thank you for your friendship to him throughout the years, and for not dating him after homecoming...haha...jk.

Angie Chen , Bridesmaid --

doctor. hah. Angie used to let me drive her car...I was probably 8 at the time. She also had a nice cush job at Enron before it collapsed and became the symbol of corruption. Sorry, Angie. My dad would tell me I didn't have to do what Angie did, but a lot of times I did...I ran track (mostly because of her and my lacking basketball skills), worked in consulting, and am now going to med school. She was also my SAT tutor, made me cry, but effectively taught me how to take the test. Sometimes, I still remember my flashcard words: facetious, gargantuan, etc. In her free time, Angie likes to: make me feel guilty, play free MSN games, do a poor rendition of british accents, cook & watch food network, and be super-anal about being clean. If she asks to be called DG, politely decline... Angie, I loved rooming with you too. I disproved your concerns! And you are probably my cleanest roommate, ever. Thank you for all the years of feeding me, teaching me how to make fancy things, getting me into college, being the go-between with me and my parents, spoiling me, and making videos of lego kids & disco lights. I appreciate the way you genuinely care, make me laugh, and share your years of wisdom and experience with me without imposing on me. Your desire to help others and your anal-ways will make you a great surgeon, far far away in Detroit. No Thank You for your joke about Simeon's eyebrows and the way we pop each others' blackheads....but Thank you for all your help in our decisions with school and getting married.

Emily Wang , Bridesmaid --

family prom co-coordinator. Emily is the most Texan Virginian I know. Even though she's spent the majority of her life in the Northeast, she still remembers her roots. She calls herself the black sheep in the family (along with Charlie)...but she's really a closet nerd - played the piano competitively, and still holds the record for highest family-SAT-score. Every time I hang out with Emily, I pick up her sayings - "Solly Cholley", oh no she didannnnt"...the list goes on. She loves to dance, especially in the car with one leg up while driving. She also loves magazines and telling jokes. I used to love going over to her house, and still remember stories about Scott, JCrew, and her good girl friends...I also wished that my friends would make me colorful signs the way that hers did. Emily, you've always been my big sister...I know this, because your mom calls me step-daughter. I remember how I wanted to have a closer relationship with my mom because of you...and that time you yelled at me because I told your dad to go away. You told me only you could say that to him. Thank you for always calling me, checking up on how I'm doing, calling when you have something so hilarious to say that you can't get the words in between the laughter, encouraging me to be independent, apologizing when you feel hypocritical, thinking that family prom is actually a great idea, and loving grandma the way that you do . I admire how your laughter and smile are contagious, and the way you empathize and love people. Because of you, I also love hip-hop. Thank you for wanting to help out so much with the wedding, and for being anxious to meet Simeon.

Sanghong Lintakoon , Bridesmaid --

emo fob. Sanghong probably has the most character in the way she dresses and in her taste of music. She's not crazy, but she's the most artistic in our family so Charlie and I make fun of her by calling her emo. Her parents used to make us sit in their dining room while they taught Chinese lessons from a dry erase. Sanghong was the only one who successfully learned the language comprehensively, and now she is moving to China to study at Bei da. We used to play fort at her house - I really liked this one stuffed animal cat...she let me borrow it once. We also used to play Pay Day, with our own Lintakoon rules. I used to try to get Sanghong to come to "normal youth group" with me, but she would go to Chinese fellowship with her parents, and through it, she's developed a heart for China. "How can you not like China???" Sanghong, I'm sad you're moving so far away. I'm thankful that you're flying back though. Thank you for all the childhood memories, for enduring my dad's pitch-quizzes in the car, for the sleepovers, the fort-making, letting me ride with you to church all those weeks, our random phone calls & catch up times, knowing little things about me...like recognizing me from behind bc i rub my ears (stalker). I appreciate how you've embraced your Asian American culture, didn't choose a major that was safe, are brave enough to move to China, and your heart for missions. Even though you're emo, I will still visit you from time to time. Please give me your Pay Day game, and not Charlie. Now you get to meet Simeon!

Stephanie Kwan , Bridesmaid --

soon to be sister. I met Stephanie for the first time in the HK airport. She was sitting on one of those luggage carts, waiting for me with her dad. In the airport, I also slipped and fell down before we got outside - Steph helped me up (and we laughed at me). On the bus ride, she made me feel much more comfortable and less awkward. Steph has been given the responsibility of being me and Simeon's chaperon (sorry steph, it'll be over soon). Steph was also my personal translator when we went to visit their family. She is actually really good at the flute, but does not want to play at the wedding. We would've lived with her if we went to Brooklyn (she's at Brooklyn Law)...instead, we're taking her bowls & other household goods to Texas. Steph, you are my jie jie. haha. Thanks for liking me, and welcoming me into your family. Thanks for helping me feel more comfortable, especially when I was meeting everyone for the first time...it was much easier having you around. Thanks for taking me around New York, and reminding your grandma of who I am. I appreciate your warm personality and for the advice you've given me and Simeon. Thanks for being a good sister to Simeon all these years and for being mine now!

Sarah Lintakoon , Flower Girl
Becky Lintakoon , Flower Girl
SIMEON'S ATTENDANTS Samuel Kwan , Best Man --

My best memory of Sam is when our Chinese New Years money got stolen. In 1992, we pooled together our money and hid it behind the bookshelf. Shortly after, someone stole all the money! I was devastated. I realized several years later that Sam stole all the money to buy airheads and sell them for a profit. Other than this incident, my brother has been a true blessing to my life. He is the ultimate servant who has taken care of me my whole life. Thank you Broham

Weili Hsu , Best Man --

Weili and I became much closer after I moved away from Clear Lake in 2001. We chatted on AIM and always asked each other what we were doing even though the answer was always nothing. I practically lived in him and Matt's room during our first year of college. Weili was a big reason why I chose to come down to Texas for college. He's always been my dependable friend and he'll be toasting us. Sam is the best man, but Weili is my best friend.

Mark Chu , Groomsman --

Mark is the 2nd funniest guy I know after Mok. He used to have a man-crush on me during our freshman year of college but he didn't tell anyone except his girlfriend. We used to play a game called cell-fun where we'd force each other to talk to random people on the phone. I'm sorry if you were one of the victims. My college experience was largely defined by this guy and all the random fun we had back then. He's also the emcee so expect alot from him, folks.

Matthew Liaw , Groomsman --

Mattipedia. If Matt would've started wikipedia before Jimmy Wales did then he wouldn't have to go to Stanford this fall. I will always remember sitting in J2 squeezing grapes to make grape juice for our wine making project. Too bad Michael Liu knocked over the glass representing 2 weeks of our work. Matt, you never cease to amaze me with all the different hobbies you pick up. I believe the current one is surfing/blogging about girls. Stanford, keep him weird.

Lawrence Chen , Groomsman --

Swyguy/Shyguy. When I first arrived in Clear Lake Int. this brewmaster sat with me at lunch when no one else would. His hobbies include your typical aZn gangsta hobbies: cars, girls, ball, drinking, clubs. Don't worry though, he likes golf now. Lawrence is the one friend who will always drive out to where you are to hang out with you. If it wasn't for him driving to CS one fateful night, I wouldn't have Nancy. Sorry it didn't work out for you too that night

Lin Yushan , Groomsman --

Yushan has an english name, but he stopped going by that after he found his Asian American Identity. We slept together during Camp Impact but I didn't really think we'd be very good friends after a 1st year in college where we didn't hang out. He holds the record for shortest collegiate relationship ever (2 days, sorry Weili). One time Johnny convinced Nancy why she liked me when all her friends bashed me. He's got a big heart and is even a foster parent now!

Charles Lintakoon , Groomsman --

My earliest significant memory of Chuck is from when I first started dating Nancy. I was in college Station and Charlie went to buy some stuff. He ended up coming back with two pizza slices - one for me and one for him. I thought to myself "he must be a nice guy even though he always curses me out". Since then, I've been able to seen how Charlie loves Nancy and does stuff for us even though he complains about it. He also likes money and Steve Nash alot.
