My Proposal Story
We were four days into our long-awaited summer trip to Seattle and Vancouver when Joey, my now-fiance, suggested we take a day-trip to Grouse Mountain. The friends that we were staying with insisted that the gorgeous views from the top were not to be missed, so I readily agreed. When we reached the top, our plan was to hike around a bit before checking out the lumberjack show (because nothing says romance like a lumberjack). Eventually we found ourselves on an overlook where we could see all of Vancouver below us. After taking a few pictures of the amazing view, Joey gave me a hug and started telling me how happy he was to be there with me and how happy I had made him over the year we had been together. At this point he suggested that we make a video on his mini camcorder of the scenery. He gave me the camcorder and then stooped to “get his camera” out of his backpack. I started filming (turning in a circle to show the landscape) and talking about where we were and how pretty it was, and when I turned back around, Joey was on one knee with the most gorgeous ring. I, of course, freaked out (I believe my exact words were, "Are you kidding?") and started crying and nodding before he could even say anything. He then asked me if I would make him very, very happy and be his wife. I immediately agreed, and we spent the rest of the day hiking and grinning at each other like idiots. I later found out that he had flown to Iowa (where my parents live; we live in New York) the weekend before (I thought he was out of town with his grandpa) to ask my father's permission, and he had created a DVD of all my friends and family back home telling me congratulations. It was so thoughtful, and it made me even more excited to be marrying him!
