My Proposal Story
I've never been to a Broadway play before, but I've always talked about it. So, for Christmas Walt got us tickets to see the Lion King playing in Philadelphia on April 10th. Initially we were going to just go up and see the play, however, in January he decided to make a weekend out of it. He booked a hotel and made a reservation for two at Morton's. The plan was to leave home early Saturday afternoon, check into the hotel and change in time for our five o'clock reservation. That morning Walt was dragging his feet and taking his own sweet time. I kept saying that we were going to be late and he needed to step on it. I even offered to get the tickets out of his lockbox, but was shot down twice (that's where the ring was). He suggested I go down to his car to get the e-z pass at which time I took the suitcase down. When I came back up he had gotten the tickets (and the ring) and was ready to go. We arrived at the hotel around 4pm; I sat in the car while Walt went to check in. After checking in he came out to park the car while I took the suitcase upstairs. Being Ms. Helpful, I offered to take the garment bag but was shot down again (the ring was in there)! I made a mad dash to get ready as we were running behind for our reservation. When Walt came up to the room I asked if I could wear his jacket because I had left my pashmina. We got ready in record time and were out the door. Walt fumbled a bit before giving me his jacket (the ring was in there) but I thought he was moving the tickets. We got to Morton's and had a phenomenal dinner (thanks Mi-Sun)! Mi-Sun had a special menu printed up that said; "Happy Birthday Walt" and we got a really nice picture taken. In between courses Walt got up to "check the score of the game," what he really did was give Mi-Sun our room key. We left dinner and headed over to the Kimmel Center for the play. The play was absolutely fantastic! During the intermission Walt left our seat at which time he called Rosa. After the play we were supposed to go to Fox and Hound to watch a UFC fight. What I didn't know is that it had already aired. As we were leaving Walt said his stomach was upset and he had to go to the bathroom and asked if we could go back to the room first. I was fine with that and found nothing suspicious. As we were walking back to the hotel he was using his phone. His excuse was that he was texting the Facebook world to let them know how good the play was. He was really letting Rosa know we were on our way. When we got back to the hotel we were still talking about the Lion King. He walked up ahead of me and opened the door to our room. Inside there was a bottle of champagne, candles lit everywhere and rose petals all over. I was shocked but still not clued in...I just thought it was a romantic gesture. He then pulled out a piece of paper and said..."this is the receipt from our first date; I found this a few months ago and said I was going to keep it and show it to you. Every since the day I met you I knew that you were special." (I start crying) “I don't know what God has planned for my life, but I do know that you're in it...sweetheart will you marry me?" At this point I was a blubbering mess of tears and snot! I didn't even look at the ring; I just cried and somehow got a yes out. A few moments later he said, "You can come out now." And who comes in but Rosa! She had done all the decorating and was part of the plan from the very beginning! It was one of the best days of my life and I'm so glad I got to share it with such wonderful friends!
