My Proposal Story
On December 23, 2006, We went on our very first Christmas carriage ride through Highland Park in Dallas, Tx, to look at Christmas lights. The driver of the horse carriage somehow got confused and thought that Nathan was proposing to me that night on the carriage ride. While on the carriage ride the driver pulled over to this beautiful gazebo and told us we should get out and look around. So without knowing the driver's intentions we both got out of the carriage and walked around looking at the lights that surrounded the gazebo. When we returned to the carriage the driver asked Nathan how it went. Nathan would find out later that the driver thought he was proposing to me. The Christmas carriage ride has been a tradition ever since. On December 23, 2009, We had planned on going on the carriage ride as normal. We were in Arlington, Tx, visiting his parents when Nathan received a call saying their carriage ride was cancelled due to rain. Nathan had set up a plan with the carriage ride company to specifically drive by that very same gazebo from three years ago. He had also talked about decorating the gazebo so that it would be more special. That evening after Nathan received the news he was visibly upset and I was not sure exactly why. He told me that he wanted to go to up to Dallas anyway just to look at Christmas lights. I was tired and wanted to stay in Arlington ,but he insisted that we go, so we went. To keep his plans hidden he told me to bring one of our dogs, Hope, so his plans would not seem obvious. We drove into Dallas and started to arrive in Highland Park, but instead of starting on the first street Nathan kept driving until we arrived at that very same gazebo that our first carriage ride passed. Nathan told me that Hope probably wanted to walk around so he stopped the car and we started to walk toward the gazebo. Hope and I walked up first and began to look around the very familiar gazebo. All of the sudden Nathan called out my name and as soon as I turned around he had knelt down on one knee with the most beautiful ring in his hand. What a magical night!
