My Proposal Story

The Perfect Fairy Tale Ending. Published by justkuan Her (Vicky) story: Justin had suggested that we should go up to the Bay (we are in LA) the weekend of March 14… to celebrate the Valentine’s Day we didn’t celebrate. The week before, my best friend Trisha calls and asks me to take off Friday so I could spend the day with her. It was a rare request so I took the day off, and we left on Thursday after I got off work for the 6 hour drive. On Friday, Trisha took me into a spa for a manicure, then lunch, then to watch “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and finally to dinner. After the movie I called Justin to tell him that I did NOT want him to think that I am forcing him to propose. The whole day with Trisha was great. We talked alot… and it was very relaxing and pleasant to be able to just hang out and have girly time for the WHOLE day- something we never get to do… His (Justin) story: A few weeks of planning was coming to a finale and I was 300 miles away. Even though I had come up secretly to make preparations the week prior, I still had many things to touch up. Trisha called in a week before and asks me if I need Friday to rest up and prepare. Thank God for Trisha. Friday became one long day of making ends meet and finalizing the last details. Her story: Saturday finally came. We started eating breakfast with my mom in the morning (and it was probably really hard for her to not say anything since she knew what was to come- I bet she was excited too), then we headed to our friend Kimi’s on our way to Davis to “drop off something”. We actually did have something to drop off but Justin also left her house with something in his hand. I asked him what it was… and after hesitation, he told me to open it. He wrote me a 999-word Fairy tale book! (9 means forever in Chinese). It was very impressive and I was excited. On the drive to Davis, he told me to read the first chapter. “Princess from the Far East,” I read. It was about me! I shed some tears coz it was so cute. The Princess and the Scholar The Princess and the Scholar Little Prague! Little Prague! Our first destination was Little Prague- a little Czech restaurant we’re both very fond of. Their eggs benedict is amazing. We read another chapter there. His story: The fairy tale book was stunning. Kimi made the whole book from scratch (including stitching the binding) and then illustrated it. (some pictures up at justinandvicky.blogspot.com) However, with all the detours, Vicky and I had been running WAY~ behind schedule. Two of my closest friends were in Davis, waiting for us ready to assist me in the beginning of the Perfect Fairy Tale Ending. Her story: We then drove to the Memorial Union at UCDavis, and some PHOTOHUNT, a game we loved. It brings back so many memories of college… From the MU, we read another chapter and walked to my old house near Wildhorse golf course in Davis. It took us over an hour, but surprisingly it did not feel long at all. The weather was perfect and the scenery made me nostalgic. We sang songs along the way, and talked about everything. Just like when we were best friends… Walking down Memory Lane Walking down Memory Lane Vicky's old home. Vicky's old home. When we finally got there, Justin said we needed to go to my old house and sit on the driveway (coz that’s what we used to do). He even put his arm around my neck just like when he asked me out 7 years ago (I rejected him)… Then he suggested that we go to the playground by the house, and talk there. When we got to the play ground, there was already a bible, a towel, a small scented soap, and a basin of water. He started reading John 13 where Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, then read Ephesians 5 where husbands are told to care for their wives and he tied them together and talked about leading our relationship by serving. Then he knelt down before me and I told him it was embarrassing since it was out in public, and asked him if he was going to wash my feet!!!! He says yes and omggggg. it was pretty embarrassing. The water was surprisingly warm, and I didn’t even know how the stuff on the bench was there in the first place. After he washed my feet, he vowed to grow and change and then we prayed together. Then, our friends picked us up to go to Konditorei- a dessert place we’re also very fond of… His story: Before we had left the MU I had my close buddies Vince and Mike take our car to the most fabulous Austrian pastry shop on the West coast: Konditorei. When we had walked about 40 minutes, I gave the phone signal to my two friends who then prepared the water and stuff (that’s how it was so nice and warm) and they drove over and brought it to the park. One of them sat in the car and the other secretly shadowed us and took photos and videos. Obviously the gig was up. Until now, Vicky had thought that I had lightly planned this trip, but now she knew something was a-brewing. I called my friend and asked for a ride and they mysteriously showed up less than a minute after. Off to Konditorei with 5 minutes until closing! We sat outside and talked more seriously about our relationship and the direction we wanted it to take. But how to get her mind off things? Her story: THEN we drove to the Vacaville outlets… WHERE WE DID SOME RING SHOPPING. (sneaky Justin) Finally. our last destination was in the Bay Area. We stopped by this beautiful peninsula. We walked and talked and read some more chapters of the book. When the sun was almost setting. We walked around for a bit and sat down on a bench behind a restaurant. Justin mentioned that the restaurant we were going to was 30 min away, so I didn’t think anything of it. We read more chapters here, and it said this fairy tale (about a scholar and a princess) was missing something. Suddenly he says he needs to go to the bathroom. Sunset. Ooo~ Sunset. Ooo~ His story: Ring shopping threw Vicky off GOOD! The place I took her to was Marina Park out in Emeryville. It was just under 60 degrees and the wind was making it really chilly! Still, she toughed it out like a trooper and we were able to enjoy a stunning view (of course I had two, her and the sunset). What she had not realized was that I had had 5 people helping me all along. The two from Davis had driven down before us to help someone set up, and two others got disguised as a bum and a photographer to help get good photos of the proposal. At 6:45 I maneuvered her in front of the restaurant, Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood, leaving us 31 minutes before sunset. And just before the clock hit 7 I was off to my “emergency bathroom break”. The jumpsuit was tight and hard to put on. So was the rest. Even with practice it took me a good 10 minutes to put on. But I was now dressed and rearin’ to go. In our almost 4 years together Vicky had wanted a little bit of fanfare, and I always gave her the romantic 1on1s. Now was time to blow her away. My scene was set: Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, Sunset; Her friends sitting in the restaurant watching us the whole time, my guys all in place. And this fairy tale was still missing the knight in shiny armor… Her story: I waited and waited, and took some pictures. Finally, off to my left I see someone in a suit of armor. I was a little confused and a little scared, I started looking left and right for Justin. Then this knight started walking towards the front of me, still a bit of a distance away. I started calling Justin’s name… just in case that it was him… lol. Knight in Shiny Armor! Knight in Shiny Armor! I called his name some more until he finally answered me. I told him to come over but he said he couldn’t. (what do you mean you can’t?????) Then Vince and Mike (from Davis!) walked out with this big frame with nothing in the middle, and placed it in front of me, between me and Justin and the sunset. They asked me to read the next chapter. The title was, “A Picture Perfect Fairy Tale Ending,” and the first words were “The knight in shiny armor”. My heart pounded sooooo fast because just yesterday I reminded him I wasn’t rushing him! It was like a dream, Justin in that frame with the sunset and the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge. So beautiful my mind kind of blanked out. He lifted his visor and said loudly: “Vicky, if you will be my princess I will be your knight in shiny armor from now until forever.” OMGGGGGGG. I was thinking “who says that?????” but in a good way. I was so speechless that the only thing that came out of my mouth was “Justin you’re so cheeeessy” with an embarrassed giggle. He said “I know” with more giggling. I tell him that it was so embarrassing in front of a whole restaurant, etc. He then told me to turn around and when I did I saw my friends inside the restaurant crowded by the huge glass windows waving at me and taking pictures, along with all the rest of the restaurant. Finally, he got down on one knee and said “Victoria Chung, will you marry me?” and trust me, I thought I was dreaming. Even though we talk about getting married and what we want for our wedding, I never knew how I would respond exactly. So I stood there being surprised and stunned. After a few seconds he whispered “Answer me!” haha! and I said “ok!” then “Of course I will!” Then we kissed and took pictures inside the picture frame, with the sunset and the water and the Golden Gate bridge behind us… Before we went into the restaurant (it really did end up being “30 minutes away”), Justin had to change back to his normal clothing. My favorite girls were there and I felt so blessed and lucky to have all of them right then and there! His story: What can I say? A lot of hitches in my original plan, but what’s life without a bit of spice? Our friends really helped make this the “Picture-Perfect Fairy Tale ending!” Bling! The End.
