Renowned for her iconic personal style, a modern sensibility paired with femininity and effortless elegance, Carolina Herrera outfits women and men worldwide with an aesthetic all her own. With the encouragement of legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, she presented her first ready-to-wear collection at New York’s Metropolitan Club in 1981. Connecting with Manhattan’s chicest set, Carolina Herrera’s debut collection was embraced and thus her fashion house was born. “For me it’s always been about New York. It’s where fashion begins and ends. It is who we are.” Opening her atelier shortly after her first show and building a design team with the finest Haute Couture expertise and pedigree, Herrera built an empire aligning her name synonymously with New York City and all things luxury. Known for concluding her ready-to-wear shows with a wedding gown, Carolina Herrera introduced a bridal line in 1987 – a collection embodying the refinement and timeless style inherent in the ready to wear collection. Finding resonance on the runway, down the aisle and in the pages of fashion magazines, Herrera soon found a new home on the red carpet, dressing both rising stars and Hollywood icons. With her ready to wear and bridal collections firmly in place, she turned her attention to fragrance. A year after signing with PUIG, a Barcelona based fashion and fragrance third generation family-owned company, Carolina Herrera Eau de Parfum was launched in 1988. Its acclaimed reviews led the way for the over ten additional fragrances released for both men and women. The first Carolina Herrera flagship opened its doors in 2000 on Madison Avenue, followed by three US locations in Dallas, Bal Harbour and Los Angeles. In 2001, as a continuation of the runway collection, Herrera introduced CH Carolina Herrera, a lifestyle offering including ready-to-wear and accessories for women, men and children. CH has been embraced in new markets worldwide with more than 90 exclusive retail stores and 220 shop-in-shop locations throughout Europe, Asia, US, Latin America, Middle East and Africa. Hailed as “Fashion’s First Lady”, Herrera was named the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2004 and honored with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Acting as a mentor and critic to graduating design students for years, Herrera received an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Most recently, Herrera was presented with the 2012 Fashion Group International Superstar Award. Herrera has also served as an ambassador for the American Cancer Society and the Intergovernmental institution in the fight against malnutrition.
