Casa Pombo, where the ceremony took place, is one of the oldest houses in Cartagena, dating back to the 1500s. Julie and Alvarez gathered with their family friends in the mansion's grand hall to exchange vows.

"We had a "Gaita" group, a traditional music ensemble in the Caribbean coast of Colombia, escort us from the ceremony to the reception. It was a dancing parade on the streets of the city, although truth be told, we did most of the dancing." recalls Julie.

The cocktail hour took place on the roof of the Museum of Modern Art in Cartagena. Julie and Alvaro's guests relaxed on sleek modern lounge furniture while sipping Cuban mojitos and mango martinis while Tanghetto music played in the background.

Julie and Alvaro's first dance was to "Steppin' Out" by Tony Bennett. "We wanted something classic, danceable, and representative of us. San Francisco is a big part of our relationship all these years and no one better than Tony Bennett to bring that to the wedding." says Julie.

For the reception, the couple opted for both a live band and DJ that played a mix of rock, local music and wedding classics.

A festive fireworks display kicked off "La Hora Loca" (or crazy hour), a Latin tradition, where the party transitions into a high energy celebration.

"We had the traditional Crazy Hour at midnight, which consists of an hour that injects one more dose of energy into the reception and had all the guests dancing and wearing colorful party accessories. It started right after the fireworks show and ended with a dance troupe that had all the guests dancing," says Julie.

Julie and Alvaro love to travel, so a destination wedding in a warm, oceanside location was a must. The couple took their nuptials to Cartagena, Colombia, a city close to wear Alvaro grew up, for a fun, festive celebration complete with Latin traditions, a seaside location and stunning city views.
