The bridesmaids wore floor-length dresses; some of them changed the straps to a halter style to better fit their body types. So they’d stand out against the décor, Mimi chose a peacock-blue hue.

Chris’ niece Kylen, the flower girl, carried a basket decorated with mini calla lilies to match the groomsmen bouts and filled with silk rose petals. The ceremony site, a historic landmark, doesn’t allow fresh flowers to be thrown.

Mimi & Chris in San Francisco, CA

Mimi and Chris first met at Mimi’s sister Lili’s college apartment but didn’t get to know each other until a couple of years later. Lili’s boyfriend (now husband) played matchmaker and invited Mimi and Chris to brunch, making sure they sat next to each other. They got to talking and eventually planned their first official date -- sushi at Yoshi’s Oakland on Chris’ birthday. The Bride Mimi Kwan, 34, a public affairs director The Groom Chris Kennedy, 35, a chief information officer The Date September 5 Three years into their relationship, Chris planned an elaborate (and surprise) Valentine’s Day trip to New York City for Mimi’s first time in the Big Apple. When they arrived, they sped to the top of the Empire State Building (Chris had purchased express tickets in advance) just in time for sunset, and Chris proposed.
