Carrie and her bridesmaids, mostly her college sorority sisters, spent the night before the wedding in two adjoining hotel rooms, reminiscing about their college days. "It was the perfect end to my 'single life,'" Carrie reports. The next morning began with a long bubble bath for the bride.

At the appointed time, the wedding party gathered at the ceremony and reception site, Union Station in Tacoma, for a photo session. When she first saw Brandon, Carrie says, "I don't think my heart has ever beaten so fast."

The processional to the ceremony on Union Station's ground floor led up a flight of dramatic stairs. After the traditional Christian service, guests were ushered to the station balcony for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while the reception was set up below. A DJ played mostly jazz and cocktail music throughout the celebration.

Carrie and Brandon added their own style to the wedding routine. A small, token wedding cake "for ceremonial cutting purposes," was upstaged by an impressive dessert buffet. And Carrie did not toss her bouquet -- she presented bouquets to both her mother and her mother-in-law instead.

Carrie & Brandon in Tacoma, WA

Carrie and Brandon met on their very first day as freshmen at the University of Washington. As they suffered through many of the same courses, they bonded -- just good pals -- until, during their junior year, they started dating.

April 28 Four years after that, Brandon took Carrie (both are now volunteers with the Peace Corps in China) for a walk on the campus and surprised her with an engagement ring. Says Carrie, "I was one of those girls who never really gave my wedding much thought until I was engaged, so I was pretty much starting from zero. They only thing I knew I wanted was to have all-white flowers." No matter: Carrie describes planning the wedding as "a joyous, fun experience."
