The bride had her heart completely set on an outdoor dinner, which, in Orange County, where there aren’t too many tent-friendly venues, presented something of a challenge, explains planner Jeannie Savage. But having that nonnegotiable as a guide helped quickly narrow down the sites that would work, until they found and settled on the golf club.

By incorporating neutral tones inspired by the venue and just a hint of green, Savage gave classic white a fresh, modern makeover. Taupe chargers, along with light-gray linens, brought warmth and contrast to the tables, while splashes of color from cascading smilax vines kept the crystal chandeliers from fading into the tent’s billowy ceiling.

When it comes to design, there can be a fine line between conservative and stuffy; Savage successfully avoided crossing it by turning traditional elements on their ear. For arrangements that were anything but basic, succulents emerged unexpectedly from lush bouquets of classic white roses and tulips set in sculptural glass cylinders.

Having more than 300 guests meant a whole lot of printed materials, so it was vital to make a clean, crisp and consistent statement with the stationery, says Savage. The customized tile motif—a contemporary nod to Shady Canyon’s Mediterranean design—was key in unifying everything from the save-the-dates to the menus

A muted palette of cream, white, taupe and gray anchored this chic open-air reception hosted on the grounds of the Shady Canyon Golf Club. Reflective accents (silver candy dishes, glass vases, a mirror-topped head table) lent a playful touch to the tasteful selection of linens, china and flatware. In keeping with classic sophistication, the couple opted for a 1960s Rolls-Royce -- a fresh take on the traditional white stretch limo.

From the attire to the tablescapes, every detail of the day exuded a contemporary elegance. The bridal party carried all-white bouquets, each composed of one variety of flower, and their dove-gray Grecian-style gowns from J. Crew played off the silvery-gray linens that adorned the tables.
