Allison carried a bouquet of roses, hydrangeas and Queen Anne’s lace with seeded eucalyptus, hypericum berries and rosemary accents. She made it extra-special by wrapping it in a handkerchief her grandmother gave her.

The first dress Allison tried on, a silk, mermaid-style dress with a lace overlay, was the winner! A seamstress altered it from two straps to a more retro halter style.

Allison worried that escort cards would blow away in the wind, so she bought a six-paned window at an antique store. Her sister printed seating lists, and they placed one list in each pane. Allison’s dad then fastened the window to an easel.

On half of the reception tables, tall candelabras were topped with green hydrangeas. The seeded eucalyptus and honeysuckle vines, which were wrapped around the bases, played up wedding’s the farm setting.

Small brown cards featuring the bird logo were printed with taxi information and placed on the reception tables. The compact cards were a fun way to help out-of-town guests get back to their hotel.

Lace and satin ribbons decorated the bottom of each buttercream-covered, sugar-crystaled tier. For the topper, Allison bought a bird’s nest made of real sticks and placed three tiny plastic eggs inside it to coordinate with the stationery.

The couple wanted to give out homemade favors, so they sent guests home with the caramel popcorn balls Allison’s mom makes every fal -- a great midnight snack. They were wrapped in cellophane, and satin bows polished the look.

Soon after Allison and Matthew, met during college, they both left Michigan to study abroad for two months -- Allison to South America and Matt to Europe. Once they returned, they spent the summer making two-and-a-half-hour-long drives to and from each other’s houses before going back to school. Almost five years later, after college, Allison and Matt were dating long-distance again. Inside, Matt had written a poem about their relationship. The final line contained Matt’s proposal, and as Allison read it, Matt pulled out another box from his sweatshirt pocket.
