Jennifer and Alfred presided over a tea ceremony, a tradition in which the newlyweds serve tea to their parents and older relatives as a sign of respect while receiving well wishes and words of advice -- plus red envelopes filled with "lucky money" --from their elders. Meanwhile, wedding guests sipped tea and ate finger foods at a tea reception.

For the banquet reception at Gold Mountain Restaurant, pale pink accents balanced the dominant hue of brilliant red: Modern centerpieces of bamboo with pink dahlias and roses accompanied four-sided paper "lanterns" (made by Alfred), which displayed the table number and detailed the nine-course menu (including cake!) in Chinese and English.

Jennifer Lee and Alfred King, both Chinese-Americans living in San Francisco, wanted their wedding to reflect their culture and the city where they were born, raised, and fell in love. What did this entail? Two receptions, three dress changes, and more than 500 guests. The Bride Jennifer Lee, 30 The Groom Alfred King, 35 The Date July 23 Jennifer and Alfred tied it all together with modern Asian details and a stylish color scheme: red, the traditional Chinese wedding color, and pink, the unofficial American hue.
