Despite the threat of rain (a last-minute tent had to be set up for the band), the fun, social atmosphere made for a lively reception, behind the farm's main house. Food stations with delicious bit-size servings encouraged guests to mingle, while lights strung between the trees and a roaring fire pit kept the setting cozy.

“We ordered two round cakes, both covered in a chocolate ganache icing,” Karin says. The bottom cake was a hot-milk sponge cake with brandy, pastry cream, and fresh berries, while the top layer was a rich chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and a thin layer of apricot.

Karin & Jon in Philo, CA

For Karin and Jon a little communication goes a long way. The two met when they were paired up during a workshop and started dating six months later. The Bride Karin, 39, therapist The Groom Jon, 37, development consultant The Date June 18 During a weekend getaway to Anderson Valley, the couple was working out a to-do list for the next few months when their conversation turned to the subject of their wedding. “At that point I joked to Jon that it was perhaps a bit premature to be talking weddings given that something pretty crucial was missing,” says Karin -- to which Jon responded with a sweet, previously planned proposal.
