The intimate ceremony was held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in a building more than 150 years old, replete with high cathedral ceilings and stained-glass windows.  The groom's great-uncle, who is a priest, co-celebrated the nuptials.

Katie walked down the aisle in a strapless, ivory, dropped-waist gown by Vera Wang that had a beige sash around the waist.

As guests arrived to the reception, a cocktail hour ensued with an antipasto spread and a vodka luge serving up three flavored martinis.

Each table was topped with three to six large, square, black vases packed with colorful, lush flowers.

Before the bride and groom drove off in a black-and-white Ford Excursion, they had yet one more treat for their guests -- jars of salsa from their favorite restaurant in Albuquerque (where they had spent two summers together).

A little flirting paid off big-time for Katie and Ryan. The two met at a party at the University of Michigan, where Katie was visiting a friend. “I did my best to flirt with him from across the room for most of the night,” says Katie. Ryan took the hint, approached her, and went home with her phone number.

Four months later Katie moved to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan and get her teaching certificate, and to begin a relationship with Ryan. Two and a half years later, on a walk home from dinner at the same restaurant where they’d had their first date, Ryan led Katie to the house where they’d met and proposed.
