Kelly worked closely with her florist to create the wedding flowers, which were inspired by images the bride found that “reminded me of an English garden.” The bride’s lush, textured bouquet included white hydrangeas and roses, blush pink roses, and mauve cymbidium orchids.

“I wanted to save the boys from all the pink, so only the groom wore a light pink boutonnière,” explains Kelly. The groomsmen sported white orchids.

Kelly’s bridesmaids’ carried hand-tied bouquets that incorporated all shades of pink, from burgundy cymbidium orchids to mauve lisianthus to pale pink roses.

One of the bridesmaids, a graphic designer, used Kelly and Joe’s invitations as inspirations to create their programs. The folded programs featured a floral icon with the couple’s initials and used the fonts and colors from the invites.

Kelly and Joe married in a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Shrine of St. Joseph. The bride liked that it had the “feeling of a European church.” The church is really ornate so the couple limited decorations to candles and white bows along the aisle.

At the end of the ceremony, the wedding party waved burgundy and white ribbon streamers as Kelly and Joe left the church. A trolley then took the couple and their wedding party through St. Louis for photos.

Kelly and Joe added a textural element to their reception space by varying the heights of their centerpieces. Half of the tables featured tall arrangements in varying shades of pink—including hydrangeas, stock, lisianthus, roses, asters, orchids, and protea -- which sat atop tall gold stands. At each place setting, guests found a menu designed by one of Kelly’s bridesmaids that incorporated design elements from the programs and table numbers. Printed on linen paper with pink and brown ink, each was mounted on champagne-hued card stock.

Kelly and Joe’s wedding cake featured a scroll design that mimicked the beading on the bride’s gown. Fresh pink flowers like those in the centerpieces cascaded down the confection’s tiers.

Though they grew up near each other and their paths likely crossed multiple times, Kelly and Joe did not meet until after both had graduated from college. After being introduced by mutual friends, the two struck up an email correspondence that soon led to romance.
