On the day of their civil ceremony, the couple met at city hall (they stayed apart the night before) with their four close friends. They signed the marriage license and received their ceremony appointment ticket.

After they signed the marriage license, they walked up the grand staircase to the city hall rotunda to meet with their officiant. "We were very lucky that the rotunda at the top of the staircase was available for the ceremony," Melanie says.

The newlyweds took a stroll with their low-key bridal party before heading to a celebratory lunch. Afterward, Melanie and Kevin hopped in their car and drove off for a mini honeymoon.

Melanie and Kevin always wanted a destination wedding, and after dating for six years, the two decided to get married in Mexico. But their plans fell apart when their lawyer told them that in order for Melanie to get her green card quickly (which was important because the couple was relocating from Canada to San Francisco), it'd be best if they were married sooner rather than later. The Bride Melanie Thibault, 32, intern architect The Groom Kevin Rooney, 37, attorney The Date June 22 Just two weeks later, the couple had a new plan and exchanged vows in front of their four closest friends in the rotunda at San Francisco's city hall. After the ceremony, Melanie and Kevin hosted a lunch complete with champagne and cake for their friends. "It was so perfect and intimate," Melanie says.
