When Melissa and Robert met at a party in college, a friend immediately saw the spark and said, "You two should get married!" The comment made them feel awkward, but Robert asked Melissa to dinner anyway. "I didn't know what to expect from the date, so I dressed up a little to be safe," says Melissa. Rob's dinner choice: Panera, an ultra-casual sandwich cafe. Despite the fashion blunder, the pair became inseparable.
The Bride Melissa Will, 26, physical therapist
The Groom Robert Banta III, 25, law and urban-planning student
The Date May 25
Two years later, the couple decided to exchange Christmas gifts a little early. When it came time to give Melissa her gift, Rob disappeared — he went to call Melissa's father to ask for her hand. When Rob returned, he got down on one knee proposed. For their May wedding, the couple chose to have a shabby-chic garden theme. It perfectly fit their locale, a sprawling farm with sunken gardens for the ceremony, a pool area for cocktails and a round room with panoramic windows for the reception.
