The scene for both the ceremony and the reception was a private club in New York City. "We love the grandeur and old-world beauty of the club. The red and gold decor worked well with the warmth that we were trying to capture," Meri points out. The couple chose red bridesmaid dresses by Kathlin Argiro and bouquets of jewel-toned flowers to enhance t ...

Stephen is Catholic; Meri is Jewish; and they both wanted their ceremony to be one that all their guests would relate to, regardless of their religions. The result was a melange of traditions. The couple wed beneath a white birch huppah with thousands of orchids, in a service led by a reverend. A cantor sang the prayers and officiated over the sign ...

The newlyweds made their entrance to the celebration by descending a dramatic flight of stairs to the club's Great Hall. The rooms were full of candles and music (an 11-piece Motown and R&B band played at the reception), and a special toast stands out in Meri's memory: The best man, Arthur, presented a pictorial of his friendship with Stephen since ...

THE DATE

February 2 How they met is one of those serendipitous, New York-style twists of fate: Meri Capone and her friend, Amy Miller, were lucky enough to move into a perfect apartment in the city's Upper East Side. One week later, some of Amy's friends stopped by, Meri answered the door, and there stood Stephen Selver. "I opened the door and we have been together ever since," says Meri. Stranger still is that the great apartment used to be Stephen's, and Meri's new bedroom was Stephen's three years before. Eighteen months later, Meri pried apart a steamed clam at a popular seafood-and-sunset restaurant in the Hamptons to find a diamond ring inside. The newly engaged couple turned to Meri's friend, wedding planner Harriet Bleiman, for help in pulling together their celebration, set for only seven months away.
