The wedding day began with the Sikh ceremony, which was held in the gardens beneath a tent. "It was important to us to have clear walls for the tent so we preserved the feeling of being outside, but still kept everyone warm since it was February," Naina says.

For the morning ceremonies, Naina wore gold, diamond, and tourmaline jewelry, and her hands had been painted with henna.tr

"It was very important to us to capture both my husband’s Jewish heritage and my Sikh heritage," Naina says. During the Jewish ceremony, the couple had some of their closest family members read prayers from the Torah.

Naina & Dan in Aiken, SC

Doctors-to-be Naina and Dan first met at a coffee shop on the campus of the Medical University of South Carolina when she was a first-year student and he was in his third year. Later, while on a sailing trip from Charleston to Edisto, Dan proposed to Naina. "It was the most perfect four-day trip," she says. "We loved how quaint and beautiful Aiken is and given its proximity to Augusta" -- the bride’s hometown -- "it was the perfect choice," Naina says. It was important to Naina and Dan to incorporate both of their backgrounds into their wedding day, so it began with a Sikh ceremony and continued with a Jewish ceremony before ending in a colorful reception.
